  1. 23.46 even with a slightly too strong wind (2.2 I think) Brianna Lyston is the name, she did it at Champs
  2. Skiing is popular, but only in relatively few countries, just like team sports like handball or volleyball, most of the world just doesn't really care Sports like MMA or F1 have much more of a fan base around the world I think. I like MMA by the way, maybe even better than boxing or judo or wrestling because it has everything
  3. Sort of pronouncing them dead already is probably a bit of an overreaction
  4. World youth championships -44kg gold for Chen Yarou of China....who is only 13 http://www.iwf.net/results/results-by-events/?event=378 I mean, I know it's youth, but didn't know some top athletes are that young
  5. And Iran is not mentioned in wrestling, interesting
  6. Mistake? Personally I think F1 is one of the most global sports in the world in terms of TV audiences. It's shown live on TV in a huge number of countries, most of which have no race or driver or even a big history in the sport. I doubt volleyball is shown live in as many countries world wide to be honest (we were 4th at the Olympics yet the only time it's live on TV is during the Olympics or maybe with luck world/European champs, but definitely not club volleyball unless maybe it's the season's final....whereas on the other hand we didn't have a serious history in F1 and didn't have a serious driver for ages yet every single race was always shown live including preview/review etc ) Sports like ski jumping, speed skating etc are really popular in a very small amount of countries, but definitely aren't so widespread as F1. I'd say the same for athletics, but maybe they also count the number of people who do a certain kind of sport and of course every country has some local athletics clubs. I would be surprised if Diamond League viewer ratings are anywhere close to F1 though, apart from a few die hard athletics fans I never ever hear anyone talk about athletics at all
  7. This right here shows why not to take these things too serious..."downhill skiing is a big event" and they're comparing that with entire sports? Yes, alpine skiing is popular in countries like Austria and Switzerland, but not specifically 'downhill skiing', that's like saying "athletics is popular because people watch the 100m"
  8. Which other sports allow 200+ participants/sets such a low bar for entry in World Cup stages, one could also ask
  9. How is it strange to see F1 is more popular than volleyball or especially ice hockey or boxing? F1 seems to have large numbers of fans worldwide, also in countries without a major driver, whereas apart from Brazil I wouldn't know a country where volleyball is extremely popular and the same thing goes for ice hockey (not Brazil, but Canada and obviously Czechoslovenia). F1 being more popular than boxing worldwide seems like an easy guess for me. I also doubt athletics would be this high...it doesn't seem like a sport with a real big fan base I mean, everyone knows Usain Bolt, but I wonder how many people there are who could mention 2-3 top athletes in half of the disciplines. Basically, my opinion of these 11: F1 is too low, athletics is too high, cricket is too high but looking at the numbers it's correct I guess
  10. Yep I always had a weak spot for that flag so when it appeared now, I had to take it
  11. My guess it's done by Assad, Russia, USA, coalition, 'rebels', rebels, Al-Quaida, ISIS or another group. It's just impossible to say, all sides are playing insanely dirty there, both Assad's side and the rebels (the ever-friendly faces of former Al-Nusra and stuff, in other words, a ton of terrorists).
  12. I found what seems to be typical Norfolk Island music!
  13. Anyone saw The Walking Dead's season finale? Just placing it in a spoiler of course
  14. Ice hockey is probably lucky there aren't that many winter Olympic sports and not really a realistic team sport to replace it, because with this kind of bullcrap you're getting a same kind of Olympic tournament as the junior football or baseball without MLB players..
  15. Sad for Wehrlein that he's still not able to race, but after those fantastic races last year I'm happy to see Giovinazzi yet again
  16. That is just awesome!
  17. It's of course impossible to say for any of us who are not working inside Russian security services It's just what I would put my money on because it would not be surprising at all.
  18. I'd put my money on Chechnya, but that's obviously nothing more than an 'educated guess'.
  19. There we go again...
  20. Tried searching some Norfolk Island music...
  21. Someone must play the guitar or something...
  22. My attention was immediately drawn to Norfolk Island's flag so let's try that
  23. I do get this rule for the heavy categories dcro mentioned, where you've got 150kg monsters competing with 106kg people for example. For the rest it's just stupid and, indeed, absolutely idiotic.
