Medard81 got a reaction from Topicmaster1010 in Commonwealth Games 2022
Definitely enjoyed these games. Had the luxury of staying with a friend in Coventry so got to see a lot of the events up close along with the opening ceremony. Great atmosphere and the whole city was buzzing so still coming down off the high of it all.
England had a good games securing a record number of medals. Slightly disappointed we missed out on Golds in some of the team events but enjoyed the Gymnastics, Athletics along with the Basketball and Beach Volleyball which I previously hadnt seen much of but think I could get used to those sports. In general pleased to see all the home nations doing well along with all the others who are going home with hopefully a lot of good memories.

I think one of the key lessons is not to charge silly prices for tickets. One of the great sights were seeing how many families were there with children. That’s where Eugene messed up

Medard81 got a reaction from maestro in Winter Olympic Games Beijing 2022 Medal Count
Really enjoyed this Olympics. I’ve been struggling with covid for most of the fortnight so got to see far more than I planned but in some ways that’s been a bonus.
Congratulations to Norway for a record breaking games at the top and also well done to China for their top 3 finish capping off a great hosting of the games. Good to see so many different nations picking up medals which is no doubt good for winter sports in various countries and also some steady showings from smaller nations.
For Britain I think we hoped for medals in multiple sports but have been unlucky in some events and also disappointed in others. Particularly Skeleton where we failed to win anything for the first time. But the Curling made up for this with the weekends matches all being edge of your seat affairs and also helped me forget I was ill for several hours so big thanks for that. At least we are on the table and disappointment of a lower tally is a positive as it shows we are pushing ourselves forward and with some promising young athletes 2026 could see us making progress again.

Medard81 got a reaction from rafalgorka in Whose medal in Beijing 2022 would be the biggest fun & joy for you? Here you can choose only between athletes REPRESENTING YOUR NATION.
David Ryding in the Slalom. Just to say we have actually won an Alpine Skiing medal. Failing that third time lucky for James Woods in the Freestyle Ski Slopestyle event as pretty sure this is his last games.

Medard81 got a reaction from Ted in How Many Medals do You Expect from Your Nation at the Winter Olympic Games Beijing 2022?
Alpine Skiing: Ryding has given himself a confidence boost with his World cup win. Still an outsider but will hopefully at least challenge for Top 6
Bobsleigh: Hall has been having a good world cup season in both 2 Man and 4 Man. Would be nice if he can carry that form into the games
Cross Country Skiing: Musgrave will be thereabouts if hes on form. Likely just targeting personal bests. though Same for Young
Curling: Could challenge for medals in all 3 events and possibly a Gold or two. Would be really disappointing to not win something here
Figure Skating: Fear and Gibson may get a Top 10 in Ice Dance. Little else to get excited about
Freestyle Skiing: Multiple medal hopes in Slopestyle and cant rule out Big Air and Halfpipe glory either. If we only get 1 Medal I hope Woods can deliver after near misses at the last 2 games
Luge: Making up the numbers
Short Track Speed Skating: Sadly any hopes of something here went with Elise Christies injury
Skeleton: Been our best source of medals for years but current crop hasnt been delivering of late. Hopefully they are just saving themselves for this
Snowboarding: Both Bankes and Ormerod could come away with something
Speed Skating: Just here for the experience
Would be nice if we can win 6 Medals and at least 2 of them Gold which will be our best ever showing. Although with Britain anything from the Winter Games is a bonus.

Hi All
I’ve been dipping in and out of this forum as a guest for a while so thought it was about time I signed up. I’m always a big fan of the Olympics when it comes round and already looking forward to being part of the journey to Beijing 2022 and beyond.
