  1. Agree with you on this. The only missed category was Long Track Speed Skating where Cornelius Kersten and Ellia Smeding have done a good job getting us involved in this event again after many years absence. He won a Bronze medal at 2023 worlds but both are realistically fringe contenders and main goal is to grow the sport here. As for our general chances by British standards we tend to do well at the various world championships before a Winter Olympics to raise hopes and then several dont quite deliver when its time. Would prefer the reverse to happen where we save our best for 2026 and help boost our Winter sports growth.
  2. 1 8/10 Picked up a few medals every single day so always something to celebrate. Would have liked a few more Gold and felt unlucky to miss out on a few events but still cant complain 2 Surprises: Toby Roberts Sport Climbing Gold. First ever Medal in Artistic Swimming Heartbreaks: Beth Shriever flopping in BMX final. Mens Hockey teams Penalty loss to India. Max Whitlock retiring empty handed 3 We were targeting between 50-70 medals and came away with 65. Likely expecting more Gold so there will be questions asked in certain areas but overall should be satisfied 4. Sport Climbing definitely should be as theres potential for more success. 5. Louie Hinchcliffe in Athletics. Emma Finucane in Track Cycling Andrea Spendolini-Sirieix in Diving. Sky Brown in Skateboarding and possibly Surfing. Toby Roberts and Erin McNeice in Sport Climbing. Caden Cunningham in Taekwondo to name but a few who can kick on from Paris
  3. 1. Alex Yees comeback in the Triathlon 2. Keelys Athletics Win 3. Andy Murray fighting to the bitter end in the Mens Doubles
  4. Im always around on this forum just not much of a poster but like to dip in and out to see what other users are saying about the various sports events going on. Must try and contribute a bit more where I can.
  5. Both these events are always good for plugging the gap between Summer Olympics along with the Winter Games so hopefully both will get sorted out. Still no word of a European host though which I hope gets announced soon
  6. Been keeping my opinions to myself all Olympics cos Ive often been the kiss of death to an Athletes chances with my predictions but probably safe to come out of the woodwork now. I've enjoyed the games from start to finish as always and sad its now come to an end. For GB chances I think we are slightly below what I expected especially the Gold count which I thought would hold up around the 20s mark. Then again we must have been the unluckiest nation for being pipped on the line for top spot in an event that any other day we would have won. The plus side is we have got a decent medal count and grabbed a couple every day so there are plenty of reasons to be optimistic. My gut feeling about 2028 is we will drop off a bit more maybe to around the 40-50 medal mark with 10-15 Golds but thats still a lot better than what I grew up with when 5 Golds was our average and over 30 medals was a bit of a dream. But lets see how the next 4 years go and for now just make the most of whats left of Paris 24.
  7. Definitely enjoyed these games. Had the luxury of staying with a friend in Coventry so got to see a lot of the events up close along with the opening ceremony. Great atmosphere and the whole city was buzzing so still coming down off the high of it all. England had a good games securing a record number of medals. Slightly disappointed we missed out on Golds in some of the team events but enjoyed the Gymnastics, Athletics along with the Basketball and Beach Volleyball which I previously hadnt seen much of but think I could get used to those sports. In general pleased to see all the home nations doing well along with all the others who are going home with hopefully a lot of good memories.
  8. I was thinking we could achieve the 3-7 medal target at these games but aside from the Curling its just not worked out for us. Particularly disappointed in the sliding events where we seemed well off the pace and the Freestyle Ski and Snowboarding where we had a lot of potential and came away empty handed. Hopefully the funding cuts wont be so severe but I would understand if they were given how much has been ploughed in with little return.
  9. Really enjoyed this Olympics. I’ve been struggling with covid for most of the fortnight so got to see far more than I planned but in some ways that’s been a bonus. Congratulations to Norway for a record breaking games at the top and also well done to China for their top 3 finish capping off a great hosting of the games. Good to see so many different nations picking up medals which is no doubt good for winter sports in various countries and also some steady showings from smaller nations. For Britain I think we hoped for medals in multiple sports but have been unlucky in some events and also disappointed in others. Particularly Skeleton where we failed to win anything for the first time. But the Curling made up for this with the weekends matches all being edge of your seat affairs and also helped me forget I was ill for several hours so big thanks for that. At least we are on the table and disappointment of a lower tally is a positive as it shows we are pushing ourselves forward and with some promising young athletes 2026 could see us making progress again.
  10. Will be backing anyone from countries that arent traditionally successful at the Winter Games and have a chance of bucking that trend.
  11. David Ryding in the Slalom. Just to say we have actually won an Alpine Skiing medal. Failing that third time lucky for James Woods in the Freestyle Ski Slopestyle event as pretty sure this is his last games.
  12. Alpine Skiing: Ryding has given himself a confidence boost with his World cup win. Still an outsider but will hopefully at least challenge for Top 6 Bobsleigh: Hall has been having a good world cup season in both 2 Man and 4 Man. Would be nice if he can carry that form into the games Cross Country Skiing: Musgrave will be thereabouts if hes on form. Likely just targeting personal bests. though Same for Young Curling: Could challenge for medals in all 3 events and possibly a Gold or two. Would be really disappointing to not win something here Figure Skating: Fear and Gibson may get a Top 10 in Ice Dance. Little else to get excited about Freestyle Skiing: Multiple medal hopes in Slopestyle and cant rule out Big Air and Halfpipe glory either. If we only get 1 Medal I hope Woods can deliver after near misses at the last 2 games Luge: Making up the numbers Short Track Speed Skating: Sadly any hopes of something here went with Elise Christies injury Skeleton: Been our best source of medals for years but current crop hasnt been delivering of late. Hopefully they are just saving themselves for this Snowboarding: Both Bankes and Ormerod could come away with something Speed Skating: Just here for the experience Would be nice if we can win 6 Medals and at least 2 of them Gold which will be our best ever showing. Although with Britain anything from the Winter Games is a bonus.
  13. Hi All I’ve been dipping in and out of this forum as a guest for a while so thought it was about time I signed up. I’m always a big fan of the Olympics when it comes round and already looking forward to being part of the journey to Beijing 2022 and beyond.
