  1. Canada rallies from 17-12 down to take set 2 25-22, up 2-0 vs China.
  2. I didn't watch the final live, but just looking at the scores, every men's team down considerably except China who climbed to silver. Good thing Canada performed in the qualification to get to Paris.
  3. Canadian men's team not great in the final. Their score here would have gotten them 17th overall in qualifying. Overall the scores are underwhelming in the final, tbh. Every team way down. China the only one who improved, finishing in 2nd.
  4. Yeah, the Belgium v Argentina and the Belgium v Canada games will decide the second team in the group. It'll be more clear after we see who wins in the former game tonight. Of course that assumes Poland beats Argentina, which is not a given.
  5. Happy Canada got a point, but still soooooo close! They can't get complacent now, they still have to win the rest of their matches.
  6. Just going through last year's WC and it's pretty interesting. Canada is lucky to have qualified at that time. -Canadian women barely snuck in at 8th place after qualification last year, and then managed to snag the bronze. -In vault, Ellie's score this year was better yet she didn't make the final like she did last year. -Same in the beam. In fact, the score that got her silver last year is the same score she got in Q today, yet she didn't even make the final.
  7. I jumped the gun a bit on the individual qualifications. Forgot a couple of teams still had to finish. Ellie is safely into the all around final, but everything else is questionable.
  8. Possibly, but there were still some underperformances. I just hope Ellie can get an individual medal or two, and then work that into the Olympics. In Tokyo when Biles announced she was returning just for the balance beam I said she'd get third and push Ellie to 4th, which is exactly what happened. Fingers crossed Ellie can move up here and next year.
  9. The Canadian women miss the final by 0.3 Luckily they've already qualified for Paris. Ellie Black qualifies for the all around and two apparatus finals. Aurelie Tran is also into the all around final.
  10. Canada misses the final Luckily they already qualified for Paris.
  11. Yes, they won 3-1. NDL and ARG were the two teams they had to beat to potentially finish top-2, since Poland is #1 in the world. Their other competition are ranked below them, but not by much so there's still work to do. However, Canada looked really good in both matches so far (although they need to clean up their serves a bit). Cautiously optimistic.
  12. If everything else plays out the way it's expected, which of course it won't, Canada is in a good spot to finish top-2.
  13. Tuned in when NDL was up 10-5, Canada ends up taking it 25-22. Just doing my part!
  14. It's ridiculous. It's been 1.5 years, what's more time going to do? It's obvious they're trying to wait long enough for people to forget so they can let the cheating Russians keep their medal. Yet again it is proven any competition where Russian athletes take part is a farce.
  15. I think you mean the 2010 Commonwealth Games in respect to India. I bring this up because that was a long time ago now, and it'll be even longer come 2036. I don't think many would have expected China to host the Olympics in 1982 (same time difference). I'm not saying this in support of an Indian bid, I'm just pointing out that 2010 is pretty much irrelevant now. I love Cape Town and it would be incredible to see the Games there, but I agree that it might not be ready yet. I still want Istanbul to host, it's such an incredible city at a cultural crossroads. Poland is interesting, and there's no obvious outsider reason it shouldn't host, but I'll leave its real motivations and finances to people who know better. Budapest is lovely and have done a great job in recent years with Aquatics and Athletics. 2036 might be time to return to the Far East, but having a similar timezone as Brisbane 32 might not make Europeans or Americans happy. If it's Qatar we riot. Of course, unofficially, where the Winter Games will be in 2030 and 2032 will also influence these decisions. It'll be interesting to see.
  16. As a biased Canadian, I think Summer uses Fukuoka as inspiration to be ready for the 400m in Paris. Also, she won't be peaking for the nationals like this year, she will be peaking for Paris. I will never underestimate Ledecky or Titmus and they can come out hard, too (as they did in Fukuoka) but I see Summer taking her WR back in this race, setting the tone for her domination over the week. And if she wins the 400m, I see her helping Canada stay on the podium for the relay later that night. But that depends more on the state of Ruck (and to a lesser extent Oleksiak who always rises to the occasion).
  17. I looked him up a few days ago in anticipation of this competition. Canada usually does well in new sports at the Olympics, until other countries catch up. Hoping he can continue his success in Paris, but I feel like new sports with ambiguous scoring usually have "interesting" winners at the Olympics, often to attract certain big market countries (look at the USA in snowboard slopestyle in 2014).
