  1. Yeah, unless you win every other race going into it (like the gold medal winner did here), you can just do well in the points race and finish at or near the top. The riders who finished 1-2-3 in the points race got silver, bronze and fourth despite not doing that great in the other races.
  2. Canada finishes 3rd on the athletics medal table. Would have been 2nd, if not for 1/100 of a second (Kenya has one more gold). Canada finished 4th on the swimming table, only behind USA/AUS/Marchand. Crazy to see Canada as swimming and athletics powers now.
  3. Yeah, they didn't explain the sport at all. TBH, I thought the Japanese guy won the semi against Phil but I'm sure Phil was way more technical given the scores. But they didn't talk about it at all.
  4. Canada had the 3rd best free routine in artistic swimming, but they were just too far behind.
  5. I don't understand what's happening in breaking, but the commentators seem to think Phil is far and away the favourite to win gold.
  6. It's lovely to be mentioned and to be in this position, but we only have one legitimate shot left.
  7. I actually agree. Only because in LA the athletics and swimming will switch weeks, so Summer can be the OC flag bearer there. Which is kind of more prestigious.
  8. If we want to talk about a particular country getting in Canada's way of medals, let's talk China. This is not an angry rant, just stating facts. I lived in China for several years, loved it. Not shit talking the country, just pointing things out. -In swimming, without China, Canada would have gotten 3 more medals. Another one if counting Hong Kong, which China absolutely counts as part of their country. -Bronze upgraded to silver in canoe. -In diving, bronze upgraded to silver in diving. One 4th upgraded to silver, another to bronze. -Silver to gold in weightlifting. Usually its USA and this time France in team sports that stand in our way. But China, man. Move bitch, get out the way!
  9. On the other hand, look how many of Canada's performances have been upgraded recently due to doping from other countries. Drouin just got his high jump silver from London the other day (granted in 2021). We walked away from London with one gold medal, but then got another one after Girard got upgraded. The men's relay in Tokyo went from bronze to silver. If WADA wasn't biased, Canada would already be up plenty of medals, and may well be in the future. There's no asterisks here. Unless you mean, "may be upgraded later".
  10. Throw in London. One gold during the Games (one added later because cheating). Dark days. But still some incredible moments. Simon in 2000 and 2008. Kyle in 2004. Rosie in 2012 (and 2016), along with Karen in 2000, 2004, 2008 and should have been 2012. Adam in the kayak. Carol Hyun balling her eyes out with the rest of Canada in Beijing.
  11. Another record broken? Canada has won a medal in 14 different sports so far in Paris. From my quick look, that easily beats every non-boycotted Olympics, and is tied with 1984. Not going to name names, but if a certain Hogwarts alum can get on the podium tomorrow, that'll make a record. I have never read nor watched Harry Potter, but I hope my reference works here.
