  1. Anacan failed to qualify but she was guaranteed a spot via continental quota that means Grande (61kg) is also guaranteed a spot no matter what she will do here.
  2. anything above 25 is good. 26 is great. but it seems refs are too generous here with the scores and as I said these scores are irrelevant for the next round. she can't repeat this Kata in the next round. you can see the name of Kata next to each competitor's name.
  3. no. the next round matters we will have 2 groups of 4 in the next round and the winners will go to the final.
  4. yes. the winner of next round btw previous results don't matter. they have to perform a new and different Kata for each round. I assume they all save their best for the last round.
  5. to determine the real top 4. two finalists + two bronze medalists advance to the final round robin they will compete again in a new round, top 3 qualify for the Olympics.
  6. Men's freestyle is the most important team for Iran in the Olympics and this is not going to change anytime soon. even if sometimes we win better medals in other sports (or Greco-Roman wrestling) but freestyle is always #1. so picking our freestyle team usually creates controversy. we even had street protests over the team selection last time ! we were supposed to complete our lineup in Poland but some sources claimed the coaches weren't satisfied with what happened in 74kg (thanks to Chamizo's withdrawal) but it seems there is no plan for an extra trials. in that case our Olympic team is already determined : 57: Reza Atri 65: Morteza Ghiasi 74: Mostafa Hosseinkhani 86: Hassan Yazdani 97: Mohammad Hossein Mohammadian 125: Amir Hossein Zare in two weights another guy won the quota but lost the trials. personally I'm satisfied with 86, 97 and 125. the best guy is going. in two weights my favorite (I mean the best guy in my opinion) lost the trials. and 74kg was 50/50 IMO. so I'm neither happy or upset about it. we have a very good chance for 3 medals in 3 higher weights, on other hand we are very weak in 57, 65 and 74. this is probably the first time we have such a team. some very good + some below average wrestlers ! nobody in the middle.
  7. from what I see she is 3rd in line for the European quota. but there are some countries in top 8 with more quotas than what they can take. she will qualify if 2 of those NOCs decide to not send someone in this weight. I don't know how possible is that right now. you have to consider all 7 weights. USA, CHN, UKR and MEX are all over the limit but if you ask me all of them will pick this weight. I have to say Colombia still might get suspended. so slim chance but not impossible
  8. 4 is the maximum actually but from what I see 76, 64 and 55 are 100% guaranteed. 59 is 2nd in line for the Pan American quota behind USA. but USA has 4 weightlifters in top 8 in other weights. so yes I think Canada is 99.99% guaranteed maximum 4 quotas .
  9. no, team GB will have lots of female weightlifters, not eligible for reallocation quotas
  10. not at the moment but his chances are not completely dead yet. slim chance though. he is 3rd in line for the European quota. actually 2nd because Russia is not going to take this one. but Albania is still ahead of him. he had to make his last attempt in the World Juniors to surpass that guy. I remember how frustrated he was when he failed. but the thing is, Albania (which is limited to 2 quotas) most probably don't want this guy. they want Qerimaj at 81 for their 2nd spot. he will qualify if Colombia is banned or someone gets hurt in 81kg ranking. just one change will be enough for Albania (and therefore for Adamus) Albania might reject 96kg quota "hoping" for 81kg later with possible reallocations. these are just possibilities but at this moment Adamus is out of the Olympics.
  11. no I didn't that's Ireland. Ireland is the best ranked NOC in that weight with no quota in another categories. I have to say I'm not sure at all about what I wrote so don't blame me if I was completely wrong the whole qualification process was mind blowing. (for example both of our Olympic Champions failed to qualify) as I said I still think India will take that quota but some Indian users told me earlier that this is guy is suspended (I can't find anything confirming that) if he is banned, there is nobody else from Asia to take the Asian quota. so the quota will be re-allocated. BUT even if India takes that one, there is another way left for Ireland, according to the rules, since Japan is qualifying maximum 4 weightlifters, there will be 4 unused host quotas. we still don't know in which weights because they have to award 3 wild cards first. in case no wild card will be awarded in this weight. Brown has a good chance to take the unused host quota.
  12. and the rest 96 == 109 == +109 == * There is no eligible weightlifter from Africa in +109kg, so the African quota will go to Hungary * I heard from Indian users here that Ajay Singh (81kg weightlifter) is suspended for doping but the fact his name is still in the list means maybe that's not correct. also the source I was given (and didn't check it properly at the time ) refers to another athlete in another sport, so I assume he is not banned. but in case he is banned, there is nobody from Asia to grab that quota. from what I can see the next best NOC with no quota in this sport is ! https://sportstar.thehindu.com/other-sports/nada-provisionally-suspends-rakhi-halder-ajay-thakur-anti-doping-rule-violations/article34283229.ece again, this information is most probably WRONG ! I highly doubt NOCs can't pick their own team.
  13. there is an interesting thing in the rules, it doesn't say NOCs are allowed to pick whoever they want (in case they have more than enough athletes inside the qualification zone) https://www.iwf.net/wp-content/uploads/downloads/2021/05/T2020-Revised-QS_Application-Process-FINAL-04052021.pdf I have a feeling this is NOT correct and NOCs can select their team (for example China with lots of weightlifters in 1st place) but let's pretend that's correct. in this case IWF will select the qualified weighlitfters based on this : 1. the highest ranking 2. the highest ROBI point for individual result (not the total ROBI point) in this case Li Fabin will be left out from the Chinese squad because his best ROBI point (1171) is lower than other 4 Chinese guys. by my count these guys are going to the Olympics, but keep in mind this is just imaginary, I also keep Vietnam and Colombia in the list. since only 75 emoji are allowed I have to make it two posts 61 == 67 == 73 == 81 ==
  14. non PDF version of draw (including Kata) is available now https://www.sportdata.org/wkf/set-online/veranstaltung_info_main.php?active_menu=calendar&vernr=386&ver_info_action=catauslist#a_eventheadend
  15. that's a tough draw but I believe in this tournament there is no easy draw for anybody. there are lots of relatively unknown good guys who weren't able to participate in K1 events and were waiting for this opportunity. I don't know how Brose is going to handle his size difference (he was world champion at 60kg. this is 2 weights up!) btw you are not eliminated if you lose. there is still repechage if you lose to one of the finalists.
  16. I really hate that 3rd policy which means creating mixed or stupid team events and giving up easy medals to some athletes.
  17. the official document says the "draw ceremony" will be held on 18:30 (local time) so I guess we have to wait a bit for that. at least an hour. maybe two.
  18. Venezuela and Mexico are also now limited to max 2 weightlifters in each gender https://www.iwf.net/wp-content/uploads/downloads/2021/06/Number-of-ADRV_10062021.pdf as for Venezuela they have 3 female athletes inside the qualification zone , 59, 87 and +87 . now they have to pick 2 on the men's side they were guaranteed in 73 and 96 and might have a chance in 109kg. I assume it's only 73 and 96 now. Mexico had 4 female quotas 55, 59, 76 and 87, will be a big blow for them. have to give up 2. they will have 67 and 73 quotas in men's weights. no change here.
  19. not without wrestling but it has to be 3 years time between your last official competition (World and Continental Championships) before you are allowed to wrestle for another country in the Olympics. Hemida is a 2018 world U23 silver medalist for USA. normally he wouldn't be able to wrestle at the Olympics (since he wrestled for USA in November 2018) but IOC gave him special permission.
  20. I believe he knew, his last attempt in World Juniors was calculated to surpass the Israeli athlete. and if I remember correctly he and his coach were very happy after the last lift (while he secured the gold medal already) without these 2 Spanish and Austrian weightlifters he was 90% guaranteed an Olympic spot. this is different now. I totally agree with that bold part, as someone who loves sport I have respect for all athletes around the world (except few cheaters). I can never wish for someone's injury. I feel guilty even thinking about that
  21. not sure if you are aware but Egypt NOC asked IOC's special permission to let Hemeida wrestle for Egypt. (before his 3 years inactivity period ) I don't think they did that for nothing. but I understand he did nothing special yesterday (beside making Iranian fans happy) and they probably send the original guy. this is the same in Iran in most sports. sending the guy who won the quota. but wrestling is a different story. you can make a comedic movie from our wrestling trial process
  22. Yes that's true but I have to say both BLR and ARM are likely to NOT send someone in this weight. this is weightlifting, not table tennis, injuries happen and happen a lot. also you never know with doping disqualifications. it can happen to anybody.
  23. adding 2 Europeans to the ranking hurt his chance big time. since there is no eligible weightlifters from Africa there will be one reallocated quota for the best weightlifter (from a NOC with 0 quotas) but I assume that goes to Hungary. even if BLR, RUS and ARM decide to not use their lone quota here. we still have GEO, IRN, BRA, SYR, TKM, ALG, ESP and AUT as top 8. CZE will take the European quota and that reallocated one is for HUN. Kuworge goes to Tokyo only if one of these guys get hurt. (assuming BLR and ARM don't send anybody in this weight)
  24. I don't think so, rules were completely different back then. this year they award the quotas to the athletes, not the NOCs. even if someone gets hurt, the next weightlifter in the world ranking will go.
  25. @thepharoah do you have any idea who is going to represent Egypt in 125kg ? I assume this was Egypt's trial in this weight as well. both your guys finished 5th. so who is going ?! but I have to say most of Iranian wrestling fans thank Youssif Hemida for what he did here we sent two wrestlers here for our own trials. A) a very young talented wrestler who might even have chance for the Olympic gold and B ) a guy who is just a bad matchup for wrestler A and beat him twice recently. thankfully Hemida did great and beat Amin Taheri (wrestler B) in the QF and cleaned the way for the other guy Amir-Hossein Zare to win the gold in a dominant way and confirmed his place in Tokyo. that was one of the rare moments I had to cheer against the Iranian athlete btw it seems Chamizo really made a mess in our trials. our 74kg wrestler is not confirmed yet. Hosseinkhani won the gold but that didn't convince our "technical committee" apparently. they are considering having extra trials. (still nothing confirmed, they are just thinking) that will affect the seeding as well. Hosseinkhani will be the 4th seed if he goes to Tokyo. personally I was cheering for the other guy. pity they didn't face each other but he lost to the guy who lost to Hosseinkhani. end of discussion. Hosseinkhani is the most hated wrestler here. for the reason I explained ( so many heart breaking defeats in last 15 seconds) but he is the best we have in this weight at the moment.
