  1. Ukraine and Morocoo played for a 0-0 draw. they didn't even touch each other during the fight. only threw some random kicks and punches. I really don't blame them. I would do the same. this format was a terrible idea btw, this result ended the hopes for Kazakhstan so qualified in women's 61kg
  2. as expected qualified in men's Kata
  3. looks like it will be the same story as yesterday, the Iranian will lost all 3 matches to finish last I watched 6 matches = 12 boring Katas and nothing at the end. not really fair for me to do that again and still got nothing at the end USA and TPE have one foot in Tokyo by winning the first round matches
  4. looks like that guy is retired now or found a new job. I'm going to miss his "Olympic is going to be cancelled", "Australia will pull the plug", "Biden will push the Plug" posts. they were fun for me
  5. Iran's freestyle team for Tokyo Olympics is now officially confirmed 57kg: Reza Atri (Mazandaran) 65kg: Morteza Ghiasi (Lorestan) 74kg: Mostafa Hosseinkhani (Tehran) 86kg: Hassan Yazdani (Mazandaran) 97kg: Mohammad Hossein Mohammadian (Mazandaran) 125kg: Amir Hossein Zare (Mazandaran)
  6. Continental quotas ladder after today Men: Oceania: 1. Yahiro (75kg - Rank 22) - Qualified Continental Quota Africa: 1. Abdelaziz (75kg - Rank 8) - Qualified Continental Quota 2. El Hakimi (Kata - Rank 17) - Qualified Continental Quota America: 1. Irr (+75kg - Rank 16) - will go to Tokyo even if doesn't qualify directly 2. Madera (67kg - Rank 34) Asia: 1. Yuldashev (+75kg - Rank 8)- will go to Tokyo even if doesn't qualify directly 2. Saymatov (67kg - Rank 15) Europe: 1. Kalnins (67kg - Rank 14) 2. Gurbanli (+75kg - Rank 24) 3. Arkania (+75kg - Rank 5) 4. Chobotar (+75kg - Rank 11) ================== and Women Oceania: 1. Anacan (Kata - Rank 9) - Qualified Continental Quota Africa: 1. Abdelaziz (+61kg - Rank 5) 2. Sayed (55kg - Rank 11) - failed to qualify directly America: 1. Grande (61kg - Rank 9)- Qualified Continental Quota 2. Kumizaki (55kg - Rank 19) 3. Dimitrova (Kata - Rank 11) Asia: 1. Alipour (61kg - Rank 6)- Qualified Continental Quota Europe: 1. Semeraro (+61kg - Rank 11) - will go to Tokyo even if doesn't qualify directly 2. Plank (55kg - Rank 14) - failed to qualify directly ================== there will be one more additional quota for Africa and Pan-Ams. for Africa Egypt can't take that (already has 2) so it's Morocco in men's Kata. so that means the last Pan-Am quota will to go a female athlete. Kumizaki has a very good chance to take that but still not 100% because Egypt and Austria can take both 55kg quotas before her.
  7. and for men's 75kg: Noah Bitsch Gabor Harspataki Bashar Al-Najjar Nurkanat Azhikanov
  8. we know 4 athletes for the final round in women's 61kg: Btissam Sadini Claudymer Garces Sabina Zakharova Anita Serogina
  9. Rozita Alipour lost her repechage match, by my count she will take the Asian Continental quota. I'm not really sure if she wasn't aware of this. she didn't look much motivated. with Grande and Alipour taking both 61kg quotas. there will be no quotas available in this weight anymore.
  10. Kazakhstan lost to Germany. which means Abdalla Mamduh Abdelaziz will take the African quota. there will be no more quota available for 75kg. so all other 75kg athletes have to qualify here. no more chance. Brian Irr (+75kg) is now guaranteed a place even if he loses tomorrow
  11. nobody can because they will compete tomorrow
  12. I have a feeling most of them don't know that
  13. so it's Jordan vs Hungary and Uzbekistan vs Germany/Kazakhstan in the semifinal if Egypt gets eliminated (he lost to Kazakhstan) he will take the African quota. and since both 75kg spots will be used, the American Scott won't qualify for the Olympics. (he is 1st in Pan-America but his fate now depends on Egypt and Kazakhstan)
  14. Tsuneari Yahiro (75kg) got eliminated and therefore he will take the Oceania quota.
  15. since she is cute, she was my favorite but unfortunately no, she is out of the Olympics
  16. this is confirmed now that Alexandra Grande will take the Pan-American continental quota.
  17. and advanced to the final round in women's 61kg.
  18. I don't know about Grozdev's chance but Hristov is #1 favorite for bronze here IMO. Martirosyan and Djuraev will win gold and silver unless one of them bombs out. 4-5 guys will compete for bronze, Hristov is slightly better than the rest. could be different if Chumak was here.
  19. huge surprise for me. I thought we are very weak in men's Kata hopefully it won't be another disappointing 4th finish. last night refs were too kind toward European athletes. the good thing is there is no European this time
  20. with Moradi out of the picture I was really hoping to see Tian Tao in Tokyo. he was always rival to our weightlifters (Moradi and Rostami) but a very likeable character and also a very fun weightlifter to watch. I think Qatar is almost guaranteed a gold medal in Tokyo. maybe first ever Olympic gold for that country. Fares Hassouna is also a great athlete. hopefully these 3 guys meet each other next year at the Asian Games. I still remember 2014 Asian Games, when Rostami finished his competition way above the rest, he was shaking hands with everybody, wasn't even watching what Tian is doing. Tian lifted 205, missed 211 and all of a sudden jumped for 218 (equal to World Record) I remember the Iranian commentator was laughing at him. but then he made that lift and Rostami collapsed on his chair he is a well known athlete here.
  21. yeah it seems he enjoys his time in Greece, that's his "home" actually. he has a Greek wife. it's hard for him nowadays to make the starting lineup because of Azmoun and Taremi but he was always a classy person, always ready to help the NT when that was necessary. also scored a goal today. (and another one against Hong Kong a week ago) hopefully we won't need his service against Iraq on Tuesday because when he is on, that means things are not working according to the plan.
  22. no, not at all, only the best ranked "European Games Gold medalist" will take the lone European quota. Banaszczyk didn't medal there. she will go only if one of those 3 athletes above her gets injured. very unlikely in this sport.
  23. I think that's unlikely. there are 2 guys above him and removing only Colombia won't be enough. I think Albania will take that Asian unused quota. and Poland will go if they really ban Colombia. Canada will be next if someone gets injured or banned. which is always possible in this sport. I don't think Canada can receive the host unused quota. (even if one is available in this weight) that's for countries "not represented yet" this is interesting, when I was reviewing things, there were no chance for ZWARYCZ but now it seems he has a pretty good chance. I'm quite sure he wouldn't even think about going to Tokyo in his wildest dreams this qualification system does wonders. Poland may have 3 male weightlifters in Tokyo after all.
  24. huge chance if you ask me. even if IWF doesn't really want to ban them. IOC will pressure them to do that.
  25. you can't qualify 4, all of them from the continental quota. that was the rule. max 3 was possible via that
