what a pleasant surprise gold in an Olympic weight after 5 years. that was a very strong field with only Karlos Nasar missing. we knew Javadi is good but not this good , this is his first year in the new weight. and now it's clear why coaches kicked that moron Rostami out of the team. of course he needs to lift more (mostly in snatch) if he wants to win a medal in Paris but that's next year's problem, for now he is the World Champion
-
I don't think we will have a Group B in Paris (since it's just 12 weightlifters) he has to come up with another tactic
-
This time a World Record from Group B and guess who ? the man who re-invented this tactic, Rahmat Erwin Abdullah he will most probably take the total gold medal but his total record is not that unbeatable. I wonder if he is moving to 81 kg for the Asian Games ? or that was just one tournament in this weight because he didn't want to cut weight twice in two weeks ? @Griff88 nevertheless it's insane to break the World Record in your first competition in the new category. he is surely lighter than 81kg.
-
@Vic Liu will Shi Zhiyong lift anything in this competition ? or it will be another no show ? who is supposed to be your 1st guy at 73kg ? Chen Lijun maybe if Shi doesn't make it and, do you already know which guys will participate at the Asian Games?
-
we always had some favorites preferring group B to avoid all group A tensions but that was only a few number. this year this is happening a lot I might be wrong but I have a theory, in previous tournaments you should finalize your entry record 1 day before the start in the general meeting but nowadays they submit their entry records online and if I'm not wrong they had to finalize it on 21 August. maybe that was a bit early. some weightlifters were facing minor injuries and their coaches didn't know if they will be 100% ready 20 days later. so they just decided to play safe. I can't believe all these guys submitted very low entries intentionally to not be in Group A

we never had a World Champion from Group C, did we ? well there is a first for everything

Men's Volleyball Qualification to Summer Olympic Games Paris 2024
MHSN replied to Totallympics's topic in Volleyball
Tunisia, best African team in the World Ranking just lost 3-1 to Cameroon at the African Championships quarterfinal. it will be super weird to finish 5th (best case scenario for TUN) in Africa and still qualify for the Olympics if Cameroon beats Egypt (to be accurate the winner of EGY/MAR match) they might have a chance to qualify eventually. but this is a weird tournament, Cameroon lost to Libya in the preliminary round and host Egypt also lost 3-0 to Algeria. Cameroon do not participate at the OQ next month, so this is the end of the road for them. they only can win the next 2 matches (and the African title) and hope for Tunisia and Egypt to lost enough points. right now TUN has 178, Egypt has 149 and 135 for CMR but those points will get updated soon with today result. Cameroon will be something like 15-20 behind tunisia -
Women's Volleyball FIVB Olympic Qualification Tournaments 2023
MHSN replied to Totallympics's topic in Volleyball
I'm watching some supernatural movies recently. I think the guy is possessed by a demon that's the only way I can explain his decisions. -
I was hoping for a Latvia-Lithuania final because that would help lots of people in my country to finally understand these are two different countries we got that LAT-LTU game, but nobody watches the 5th place game.
-
I believe this is the first time and that's weird. Indian wrestling federation is suspended too, I wonder if OCA and UWW reach the same agreement in that sport or UWW is just too bad to even think about it

Women's Volleyball FIVB Olympic Qualification Tournaments 2023
MHSN replied to Totallympics's topic in Volleyball
that was China B team. (and Japan B team) Thailand is good though, but not that good to beat China A -
one of our guys who is our #4 actually managed to beat World #4 Harimoto today in the men's singles draw biggest surprise ever in our TT history
-
This is the worst news of the year not because that's a big money which it isn't but it's simply hard/impossible for people in my country to pay anything thanks to the leader of so-called "free world" and its sanctions against everything and everybody. good job by UWW to lose half of its fans. (I think our state TV will find a way to show things but still I love to watch all 4 mats, this is the biggest event of the year) any chance that's only for the final package and preliminaries are still free ?
-
the list is out, Olympic Champion Sidakov is not in it , most probably UWW rejected his name. they had to send their 2nd guy Cherman Valiev they also changed their 92kg wrestler but I believe that was their own decision. Magomed Kurbanov is simply much better
-
that's already posted old links but UWW keeps updating them whenever someone changes a wrestler https://uww.org/article/greco-roman-entries-released-2023-world-championships https://uww.org/article/freestyle-entries-released-2023-world-championships https://uww.org/article/womens-wrestling-entries-announced-2023-world-championships
-
UWW keeps updating the links I posted earlier about the entries , if you check you can see some changes. they removed Olympic Champion Gable Steveson two days ago , it first it looked like a mistake but now it's confirmed that he withdrew from the competition. no reason announced yet. maybe the fake wrestling organization didn't want him to lose in a real wrestling competition. still no sign of Russian wrestlers in freestyle list but I heard from several sources that they are coming, apparently still negotiating with UWW about certain wrestlers to be allowed. and the competition starts in 10 days

I think in this sport if you are 11th or 12th (first or 2nd below the qual. zone) there is a very good chance you make the cut later. doping disqualifications are always possible and more than that this is a tough sport with lots of injuries. and some countries might pick up other weights because of max 3 quotas per gender .
-
We already knew that, didn't we ? Sport climbing, skateboard and Surfing all had been picked up both Japan and France and later IOC added them as core sport. co-incidence ? absolutely not. IOC probably made some compromises with Japan by adding Karate and Baseball/Softball but I don't think Breaking was france's first choice. that was Tommy B's personal project.

I don't think Saudis care about the format as long as they are in. it's AFC's super smart/stupid idea to me AFC is the worst sporting organization ever. everything about them suck big time. and I agree with you, the original AFC-CL idea was also something like that. they added club from new countries (like India, Philippines, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Iraq) only in past few years. I believe this format won't last long.
-
not really AFC's decision , Saudis own AFC, one day they decided to not come and AFC said yes Sir as you wish and after 7 years they got buddy buddy with the old enemy and changed their mind, AFC again said Yes Sir. but there is a funny story, Saudi clubs now have lots of very big names in their squads, of course fans love to watch them. Ronaldo's club is grouped with the most popular club here Persepolis. and while fans were happy to watch him and Mane and other guys. they found out Persepolis has to play its first AFC Champions League match behind the closed doors because their instagram account wrote something very very stupid about India two years ago. (that's a weird and unrelated punishment though) btw until last year teams were limited to have 3+1 foreign players in their squads. AFC CL this year is a completely different beast with lots of foreign players in each team. Good luck to our shitty clubs facing these super rich Saudi and Qatari teams

Taekwondo Qualification to Summer Olympic Games Paris 2024
MHSN replied to Totallympics's topic in Taekwondo
nothing is guaranteed in Taekwondo, you are qualified only when you are mathematically qualified. I believe there are still 100+60 pts left for everybody plus 40+20 for non-European athletes. (what about African Games ? cancelled or what ?) and some athletes can still gain points from minor events too. you can't count on Grand Slam ranking too much. winning gold in the 1st tournament means nothing if you lose early in the 2nd GS. I believe 68kg quota is almost out of reach, unfortunately our #1 and #2 are out because of that mysterious doping story. and this kid Rezaei is not consistent at all. 58kg and 80kg quotas are still possible. (80kg is much harder though) and for +80kg we only can count on the Grand Slam. we always claim we are good enough to qualify a full 4-man team but that's wishful thinking for now. Asian Qualifier is also very tricky, you always can run into a very good unseeded kid from TPE or THA, this time even South Korea will send some athletes. China too on the men's side. even maybe Uzbekistan. 2 quotas will be great for the women's team. 57kg looks good (still not safe) and Nematzadeh at 49kg is not far from top 10 despite missing both 2022 and 2023 World Championships (losing in our own trials ) I think she will be send to the Asian Qualifier but you never know with our federation. -
good chance to see a wild card in this weight, no chance France picks this weight. we might see both PNG and MAD girls in Paris after all.
-
for now yes. but that's only 5kg difference. but from what I saw today she could easily lift few kilos more and since she will most probably move up to 48kg next year, she will be able to lift even more. so yes she now has a much better chance to qualify. but she has to be careful. this is only her 2nd event. she has to participate in remaining 3 events to be eligible.

I watched it on Olympics.com. didn't see your message in time silver medal for Madagascar you couldn't ask for a better start (I know this is a non-Olympic event but still )

Taekwondo Qualification to Summer Olympic Games Paris 2024
MHSN replied to Totallympics's topic in Taekwondo
not a bad tournament for Iran, 4 medals from 7 athletes. finally a gold after some years. two golds actually. a bit upset that our coach didn't let 58kg final to happen. for the 2nd time in a row (after Rome GP semifinal) they asked/ordered Zandi to withdraw since the other guy has more ranking points. officiating in Taekwondo is much better nowadays because it's mostly electronic system but still a bad/corrupt referee can change the outcome of the match by giving lots of cautions. and this Moldovan ref is doing this over and over. our +80kg outscored his opponent in the QF by something like 20pts difference but still lost the match. it's taekwondo, not Sumo, you can't allow someone to simply push his opponent out of the court and win matches by cautions. btw while I still don't give up on winning Olympic quotas by the World ranking, but at the moment only 1 is in the qualification zone and there are only few tournaments left. we missed most of 2022 tournaments and now it's a bit late to collect points.
