  1. how do you read this ? if the qualification period ends in 31 May 2028 there will be no time for the CQs anyway or did I misread anything ?
  2. Interesting report from ITG https://www.insidethegames.biz/articles/1137519/wt-la28-qualification-system so after 2024 ranking will be based on the last 2 years and not 4! that was obvious but it took WT so many years to finally realize 4 years is too much. and looks like they want to give all Olympic quotas based on the ranking! no more continental qualifiers? I don't think that's a good idea lots of Olympic medalists (including some Olympic Champions) came from the continental qualifiers despite being very low in the ranking. Ulugbek Rashitov had no ranking points when he traveled to Tokyo but came back with a gold medal.
  3. semifinal curse continues ... to me Salimi was the better guy but who cares anymore. I think this is the 5th World Championship semifinal defeat in a row 5 bronzes by 5 different athletes , all of them lost winnable matches
  4. yeah he looked like a shadow of last year.
  5. As far as i know he wont be allowed to continue even if he wants too Lucky Khodabakhshi
  6. WT ordered the JOR-RUS semifinal to be replayed for the mistake I mentioned earlier. they postponed the 58kg final but after a lot of behind the scene talks they cancelled the plan and the Russian went to the final (and lost to KOR) looks like they couldn't "convince" Gurtsiev to go back and re-fight the semifinal. what a circus and that was the world championship semifinal the Jordanian guy clearly got robbed.
  7. It was a terrible mistake. the center referee asked to remove 2pts from Russia but instead they removed 2pts from Jordan !!! and nobody noticed it it should be 10-6 but they made it 8-8. they should never changed their name from WTF to something else. that was a well deserved name
  8. it was a tough day but kind of expected all of our let's say not-so-good athletes were in action today and they all lost early. was expecting more from Hosseinpour though and it got worse when I received the tomorrow draw. Soltani is already out at 49kg because of the Israel draw. good for Matin to win the bronze yesterday, still it sucks the way he lost the SF, he could go further. but still it's a great result, he wasn't even supposed to be here, was a last minute replacement when two other guys (both in this weight) tested positive for doping.
  9. The competition starts tomorrow. 1st day brackets are out http://www.worldtaekwondo.org/competition/view.html?nid=140001&mcd=C10&sc=in our team made it to Baku at the end. for few days they were afraid that there will be more doping cases in the team and the whole team is probably contaminated, they were almost ready to send everybody home but no more news "so far" and they traveled to Baku. maybe those two kids (happened to be roommates) took something or ate something together. I guess we will never know
  10. They also registered for the Women's football qualifiers in Asia. (didn't have to play in the 1st round) so I assume they want to participate in Paris. but as of now they didn't participate in any event in any sport. I assume that will change with Cuba weightlifting GP
  11. still yes. this is just the preliminary entry. the main one is what you register in the general meeting one day (sometimes 2 days) before the competition, that's what you can't change and it doesn't really matter I think lots of those guys (maybe including Santavy) just travel to Cuba and participate in weight-in to fulfill one of their OQ requirements. most of them won't lift a thing.
  12. entry list for the Grand Prix in Cuba all those weightlifters who missed previous two events have to register here otherwise they are out of the Olympics https://mf.iwf.sport/entry_list_cub/ North Korea is back ! but no sign of Om Yun-chol looks like he is retired nobody from Russia which means they will miss the Olympic but there are lots of Belorussians on the start list I have a feeling it will be a low level competition. most weightlifters simply register and participate in weight-in to fulfill one of their OQ event requirements.
  13. 2nd shocking news in 24 hours. first it was a terrible news, now it's a total disaster Danial Bozorgi who won silver in the same competition and the same weight (and was supposed to compete at the World Champs in Baku this month and was a gold medal hopeful) is tested positive for exactly the same drug and facing 4 years ban. I'm no doctor but they claim Anabolic steroids are good if you want to gain weight but these guys were constantly cutting weight to make 68kg. it doesn't make sense to take it willingly. the federation is now testing everybody in the team and they are afraid of the worst-case scenario. hopefully it's just 2
  14. World Championship bronze medalist Reza Kalhor tested positive for Anabolic steroids and will be banned for 4 years he tested positive during the World Grand Slam where he also won the bronze. what a waste of talent he is what? 17 or 18 he was kind of my favorite guy in the team. @Laraja I assume you have to adjust the GS ranking accordingly but well WT sucks. they didn't even publish a GS ranking to update it now.
  15. IOC updated the qualification document, the new one shows the hosts of continental qualifiers but they also changed few things in the "reallocation" part. based on my understanding, the current document clearly says if the Grand Slam winner is already qualified (via the Olympic ranking) the quota will transfer to the 6th athlete in the ranking and NOT the 2nd person in GS ranking. the previous document was the exact opposite of this.
  16. it could be a terrible day, Pakdaman almost blew up a big lead against Canada but somehow survived it 45-44 . that 1 hit made a HUGE difference at the end of the day! finished 16th and Iran won the bronze after beating Italy. our guys also had a huge huge comeback against to win it 45-44 again. That's a good start for the Olympic qualification but still a long way to go.
  17. no way nobody knows this guy anyway but he should be known as Sajad (or Sajjad) Poorhosseini. in surnames you always (99% of the time) can drop the 2nd part but NOT the first part. that applies to all Iranian individuals, not just the wrestlers that's very impressive, our shooting federation boycotted all shooting competitions after the World Champs in Cairo last year. (just kidding, they simply didn't have the money to send anybody anywhere) and this is really surprising to start with a gold medal by an unknown guy, good to see the shooting program is still alive. seriously, whoever invented that weird format should be punished, I suggest sending to North Korean labor camps that's just fair IMO
  18. Karlos Nasar's world record is gone, Chinese guys (Li Dayin and Tian Tao) broke all 3 World Records in 89kg.
  19. remember this guy ? he is back in action "judging" in the World Championship. unbelievable that a confirmed corrupt referee is still active I promised (to myself) so many times to never watch boxing again. how you can lose a match while you are leading and your opponent gets injured ? that only happens in Boxing. PS: our Turkmenistani corrupt judge had nothing to do with the final score but his presence make me not trust anything IBA officials say.
  20. That's weird. Indonesia can win lots of easy gold medals in non-serious sports like Pencak Silat or other martial arts in SEA Games. and they couldn't afford one less gold medal in favor of a continental title? (which is also an Olympic qualifier? though replaceable) I told my friends few days ago that SEA countries sometimes treat the SEA Games the same as the Olympics itself. looks like I wasn't exaggerating
  21. Shi Zhiyong once again just participated in weight-in but didn't lift a thing, he did the same at the Worlds in Colombia. I assume he is injured. other Chinese weightlifters don't look good at all in this weight of 73kg (which is weird, you expect China to have lots of quality weightlifters in lower weights) interesting that both top guys of Indonesia in this weight were absent I can guess that's because of the mighty SEA Games am I right? @Griff88
  22. IJF did much better than other similar federations (Taekwondo, Wrestling, Weightlifting, Fencing etc) to promote the sport. they are much better in organizing but still I think it's wishful thinking. these sports have to accept their popularity as it is and don't take big steps like this. but who I am to advise the great Marius Vizer.
  23. sooo Judo is not free anymore ? IJF thinks it had done enough to promote the sport and now it's time to cash in ? Thanks to US sanctions against everything and everybody here, I can't pay for anything international even if I wanted too. but there is a Tajik sport TV obsessed with this sport. I know what channel to watch if I want to see some Judo.
  24. It's really sad to see our Olympic Champion in Group B ! Sohrab Moradi could win his 2nd Olympic gold in Tokyo but couldn't qualify because of those stupid qualification rules. he had to try harder and got himself injured again and again in the process. I'm surprised he is still trying for his 3rd Olympics. I would retire if I was him. but who knows maybe he knows his body better. btw all of our weightlifters are in terrible shape at this time of the year. none of them will get even close to their best records. I hope it's just temporary (but I'm not 100% sure) and China already started to dominate the Olympic weights. they still don't give a shit about non-Olympic weights
  25. no way, I'm sure you are lying, there is not a single day that I don't read something in ITG.biz about someone threatening to boycott/cancel something. everybody and its dog talked about boycotting the Olympics in Poland. or in Latvia they banned people from walking the same streets as Russians. the same goes to Estonia . I'm sure they all boycotted this event, specially UK (true loyal friend of Ukraine) it wasn't just cheap talk and propaganda. propaganda only exists in non-democratic countries like ours, these are fully democratic countries where everybody is totally honest. The former Mongolian hero and current Azerbaijani hero has to beat his long time boyfriend Sagi Muki first. (if they both go that far in the draw) that was IJF's dream to have these guys meeting each other in a major event. but I assume even IJF is not that interested anymore. they realized his lies by now. kind of funny, this guy used to draw lots of attention here, somehow as an anti-regime figure. but then all of that simply disappeared after Tokyo. I'm probably the only one who still remembers him.
