  1. UWW keeps updating the links I posted earlier about the entries , if you check you can see some changes. they removed Olympic Champion Gable Steveson two days ago , it first it looked like a mistake but now it's confirmed that he withdrew from the competition. no reason announced yet. maybe the fake wrestling organization didn't want him to lose in a real wrestling competition. still no sign of Russian wrestlers in freestyle list but I heard from several sources that they are coming, apparently still negotiating with UWW about certain wrestlers to be allowed. and the competition starts in 10 days
  2. I think in this sport if you are 11th or 12th (first or 2nd below the qual. zone) there is a very good chance you make the cut later. doping disqualifications are always possible and more than that this is a tough sport with lots of injuries. and some countries might pick up other weights because of max 3 quotas per gender .
  3. We already knew that, didn't we ? Sport climbing, skateboard and Surfing all had been picked up both Japan and France and later IOC added them as core sport. co-incidence ? absolutely not. IOC probably made some compromises with Japan by adding Karate and Baseball/Softball but I don't think Breaking was france's first choice. that was Tommy B's personal project.
  4. I don't think Saudis care about the format as long as they are in. it's AFC's super smart/stupid idea to me AFC is the worst sporting organization ever. everything about them suck big time. and I agree with you, the original AFC-CL idea was also something like that. they added club from new countries (like India, Philippines, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Iraq) only in past few years. I believe this format won't last long.
  5. not really AFC's decision , Saudis own AFC, one day they decided to not come and AFC said yes Sir as you wish and after 7 years they got buddy buddy with the old enemy and changed their mind, AFC again said Yes Sir. but there is a funny story, Saudi clubs now have lots of very big names in their squads, of course fans love to watch them. Ronaldo's club is grouped with the most popular club here Persepolis. and while fans were happy to watch him and Mane and other guys. they found out Persepolis has to play its first AFC Champions League match behind the closed doors because their instagram account wrote something very very stupid about India two years ago. (that's a weird and unrelated punishment though) btw until last year teams were limited to have 3+1 foreign players in their squads. AFC CL this year is a completely different beast with lots of foreign players in each team. Good luck to our shitty clubs facing these super rich Saudi and Qatari teams
  6. nothing is guaranteed in Taekwondo, you are qualified only when you are mathematically qualified. I believe there are still 100+60 pts left for everybody plus 40+20 for non-European athletes. (what about African Games ? cancelled or what ?) and some athletes can still gain points from minor events too. you can't count on Grand Slam ranking too much. winning gold in the 1st tournament means nothing if you lose early in the 2nd GS. I believe 68kg quota is almost out of reach, unfortunately our #1 and #2 are out because of that mysterious doping story. and this kid Rezaei is not consistent at all. 58kg and 80kg quotas are still possible. (80kg is much harder though) and for +80kg we only can count on the Grand Slam. we always claim we are good enough to qualify a full 4-man team but that's wishful thinking for now. Asian Qualifier is also very tricky, you always can run into a very good unseeded kid from TPE or THA, this time even South Korea will send some athletes. China too on the men's side. even maybe Uzbekistan. 2 quotas will be great for the women's team. 57kg looks good (still not safe) and Nematzadeh at 49kg is not far from top 10 despite missing both 2022 and 2023 World Championships (losing in our own trials ) I think she will be send to the Asian Qualifier but you never know with our federation.
  7. good chance to see a wild card in this weight, no chance France picks this weight. we might see both PNG and MAD girls in Paris after all.
  8. for now yes. but that's only 5kg difference. but from what I saw today she could easily lift few kilos more and since she will most probably move up to 48kg next year, she will be able to lift even more. so yes she now has a much better chance to qualify. but she has to be careful. this is only her 2nd event. she has to participate in remaining 3 events to be eligible.
  9. I watched it on Olympics.com. didn't see your message in time silver medal for Madagascar you couldn't ask for a better start (I know this is a non-Olympic event but still )
  10. not a bad tournament for Iran, 4 medals from 7 athletes. finally a gold after some years. two golds actually. a bit upset that our coach didn't let 58kg final to happen. for the 2nd time in a row (after Rome GP semifinal) they asked/ordered Zandi to withdraw since the other guy has more ranking points. officiating in Taekwondo is much better nowadays because it's mostly electronic system but still a bad/corrupt referee can change the outcome of the match by giving lots of cautions. and this Moldovan ref is doing this over and over. our +80kg outscored his opponent in the QF by something like 20pts difference but still lost the match. it's taekwondo, not Sumo, you can't allow someone to simply push his opponent out of the court and win matches by cautions. btw while I still don't give up on winning Olympic quotas by the World ranking, but at the moment only 1 is in the qualification zone and there are only few tournaments left. we missed most of 2022 tournaments and now it's a bit late to collect points.
  11. any chance Mazzanti getting fired after this ? benching Egonu, not inviting De Gennaro or Bosetti ! only a mentally handicapped person would do that.
  12. I wasn't expecting much from this World Cup. we shouldn't even qualify (we did only because AUS forfeited the game in Tehran) still we should beat CIV with better officiating and LBN was also beatable. but that's OK it was more like "let's have fun" kind of tournament for us. but our best basketball player ever announced his retirement today , despite being old, injured, tired etc he never turned his back to the national team. he was our Luis Scola (the player I admire the most)
  13. if Brazil and Canada both lose, Canada will finish last in the group behind Brazil. so no they won't
  14. most probably to the next wrestler in the standing, the loser of 5th place match. (this time only 5 quotas are available at the WCh for each weight, not 6) and if two AIN wrestlers finish in top 5 (both RUS and BLR) I assume the quota goes to the 7th place guy who will be determined by the classification points (which is based on pure luck)
  15. from what I found out, Russia registered its wrestlers in freestyle too. they are not on the list because UWW still has to check them one by one for those "neutrality" criteria. this is the list Russia wants to send, I mean those who won their freestyle trials. not sure if UWW accepts all 10 of them. 57 Zavur Uguev 61 Abasgadzhi Magomedov 65 Shamil Mamedov 70 Evgeny Zherbaev 74 Zaurbek Sidakov 79 Akhmed Usmanov 86 Arslan Bagaev 92 Vladislav Valiev 97 Abdulrashid Sadulaev 125 Abdulla Kurbanov
  16. I have to correct my earlier answer. apparently I was very wrong some names had been leaked and apparently we will have at least 2 overaged players. (or at least 2 we are aware of) of course nothing is final because most clubs don't want to release their players.
  17. didn't notice that before (probably didn't pay enough attention) maybe stronger teams can afford doing that but not the underdog team, when you are weaker, you have to start with the best you got to not fall behind too much early. in both games our startling lineup gave up a 10pts lead in 2-3 minutes. it just doesn't make sense to me.
  18. oh my that was heartbreaking. that was probably our only chance to not finish 32nd even against African teams the most important dubious call goes against us, they didn't show the replay but I think the black was OK and Iran got robbed of a win but that protest and technical foul was dumb anyway. we still could win the game without it. and CIV had something like 100% from the FT line. ps: what kind of coach starts a match with someone who plays only 2 minutes ? I still can't understand why this guy loves to start the game with bench players.
  19. Can you write a "Hi everybody" on the screen. just for us ?
  20. big big win for Japan. they will most probably take the Asian quota and they fully deserved it. their group is much tougher than other Asian teams (maybe except Lebanon) yet they managed to beat an European team. nothing is impossible but can't see this Japan not winning 2 more games in the losers group.
  21. I knew we are the weakest team of the whole tournament but that was embarrassing. probably the worst performance ever in a Basketball World Cup history and I wish I knew why the hell our dumb coach started the game with such a weird line-up ?!? that already gave up a 20pts lead to Brazil
  22. Startlist https://iwf.sport/wp-content/uploads/downloads/2023/08/2023-IWF-WCH_START-BOOK.pdf
  23. Freestyle entries https://uww.org/article/freestyle-entries-released-2023-world-championships and again no Russia how come they were registered in Greco (with a weird team) but not in men's and women's freestyle ? my guess ? their top guys got rejected by UWW and therefore they decided to boycott the event or something like that. (or maybe the list is just not complete and they will be added later )
  24. oh thanks. that was nice of you. but that's not going to happen we have a very weak team this time. back in 2019 lots of weird miraculous things happened in our favor to qualify surprisingly. this year we need much more than just a miracle but who knows, this is sport after all. nothing is impossible. maybe the whole Brazilian team fall sleep and miss the buss
  25. Kenya beat Egypt today 3-0 and they clearly deserved the spot but look at their ranking points. Kenya has 162 and Egypt has 104 . it's a big gap but it should be much much closer. keep in mind Egypt lost 50pts last year in a very unfair way simply because they didn't play a single official match last year which wasn't their fault at all. (Kenya played at the World Championship) the same happened to all AVC teams (except VNL teams) AVC created the AVC Challenge Cup to avoid that but still 50pts from last year is not coming back.
