I wasn't expecting much from this World Cup. we shouldn't even qualify (we did only because AUS forfeited the game in Tehran) still we should beat CIV with better officiating and LBN was also beatable. but that's OK it was more like "let's have fun" kind of tournament for us. but our best basketball player ever announced his retirement today , despite being old, injured, tired etc he never turned his back to the national team. he was our Luis Scola (the player I admire the most)

if Brazil and Canada both lose, Canada will finish last in the group behind Brazil. so no they won't

(this time only 5 quotas are available at the WCh for each weight, not 6) and if two AIN wrestlers finish in top 5 (both RUS and BLR) I assume the quota goes to the 7th place guy who will be determined by the classification points (which is based on pure luck)

I have to correct my earlier answer. apparently I was very wrong some names had been leaked and apparently we will have at least 2 overaged players. (or at least 2 we are aware of) of course nothing is final because most clubs don't want to release their players.

didn't notice that before (probably didn't pay enough attention) maybe stronger teams can afford doing that but not the underdog team, when you are weaker, you have to start with the best you got to not fall behind too much early. in both games our startling lineup gave up a 10pts lead in 2-3 minutes. it just doesn't make sense to me.

oh my that was heartbreaking. that was probably our only chance to not finish 32nd even against African teams the most important dubious call goes against us, they didn't show the replay but I think the black was OK and Iran got robbed of a win but that protest and technical foul was dumb anyway. we still could win the game without it. and CIV had something like 100% from the FT line. ps: what kind of coach starts a match with someone who plays only 2 minutes ? I still can't understand why this guy loves to start the game with bench players.

big big win for Japan. they will most probably take the Asian quota and they fully deserved it. their group is much tougher than other Asian teams (maybe except Lebanon) yet they managed to beat an European team. nothing is impossible but can't see this Japan not winning 2 more games in the losers group.

I knew we are the weakest team of the whole tournament but that was embarrassing. probably the worst performance ever in a Basketball World Cup history and I wish I knew why the hell our dumb coach started the game with such a weird line-up ?!? that already gave up a 20pts lead to Brazil

(or maybe the list is just not complete and they will be added later )

oh thanks. that was nice of you. but that's not going to happen we have a very weak team this time. back in 2019 lots of weird miraculous things happened in our favor to qualify surprisingly. this year we need much more than just a miracle but who knows, this is sport after all. nothing is impossible. maybe the whole Brazilian team fall sleep and miss the buss

Kenya beat Egypt today 3-0 and they clearly deserved the spot but look at their ranking points. Kenya has 162 and Egypt has 104 . it's a big gap but it should be much much closer. keep in mind Egypt lost 50pts last year in a very unfair way simply because they didn't play a single official match last year which wasn't their fault at all. (Kenya played at the World Championship) the same happened to all AVC teams (except VNL teams) AVC created the AVC Challenge Cup to avoid that but still 50pts from last year is not coming back.

Wrong teams should play with their A teams for Continental Championships, while they are allowed to use B teams for other minor events like Pan-American Cup. of course they can send whoever they want but their results at continental Champs will be counted no matter what. Brazil used its A team for the South American Champs and I assume Canada and co will do the same for the NORCECA Champ. minor teams in other continents (especially Asia and Africa) got hurt badly by this system. all of them lost 50 points because there was no tournament to play for them in 2022. it doesn't change anything for the Olympic qualification but World Champs qualification is also based on the World Ranking and all 2nd tier Asian/African teams are already far away from the 32nd spot to qualify.

I think Kenya is qualified for the Olympics. they won the African champs today and they are #1 in Africa in the World Ranking and there is no other tournament for African teams. none of them will participate in the Olympic Qualifiers or next year VNL. so I think Kenya is 100% qualified.

no final A in Olympic events but we had a couple of 4th place finishes in the semifinals (means very close to qualify) looking at the results it seems we have a good chance to qualify few athletes at the Asian qualifiers. but I know maybe some Asian countries didn't play all their cards here

this is not new. that rule always existed (even in non-Olympic years you have to participate in continental champs to be eligible for the worlds) but UWW president had the power to bend it and he did it before. for example last year for Artur Aleksanyan. Don't count too much on this "rule" and there are RUS/BLR wrestlers on the start list already. UWW will certainly let them participate unless IOC intervenes and says something about it. not impossible but a bit unlikely IMO

are clubs like CSKA and Dynamo even active in wrestling ? never heard of it Russia didn't publish anything about their Greco squad. but I followed the process of their freestyle trials. can't wait to see the entry list for freestyle. I wonder if this is the same team (those who won their trials) or they have to make changes

this list is surely not final but based on my experience, we will have some changes but not too much. probably 1 or 2 changes in each weight. and some countries entered two wrestlers in each weight (only 1 will wrestle obviously) I follow some of the favorite teams (Iran, Turkey, Azerbaijan, Georgia) and I know this is their final list. JPN and USA entered two in each weight but I already know their final list. and of course late injuries are always possible. we just had to make a change in the freestyle team today.

2023 World Championship entries in Greco-Roman Russia (AIN) is entering a very weird squad! I don't even know half of these guys. I thought only those who advance to the final can win the quota this time for this Olympic cycle. did they change something ?? or I just remember something completely wrong ?
