  1. FIVB making revolutionary changes in its calendar, WCh qualifications and Olympic qualifications https://www.fivb.com/en/about/news/volleyball-calendar-2025-2028-approved-by-the-fivb?id=100917 for 2028 Olympic 2026 Continental Champs will act as the Continental qualifiers. to me that's too early , 2 years before the Games?
  2. couple months ago I had no hope about having a "team" in Paris but after a couple of dramatic 45-44 wins in Madrid WC now all of a sudden Iran created a big lead over Japan in Sabre's team ranking after just two events. losing the final by a big margin to Korea is a bit disappointing but the main mission was beating Japan in the Semifinal and that happened. 30pts lead over JPN and CHN sounds good so far. (assuming Korea finishing in top 4 is a sure thing) still a long way to go though.
  3. Well from just a spectator point of view these are mostly terrible changes. like almost all of IOC's changes. bunch of morons make decisions without any kind of transparency. especially that team Alpine combined idea . that individual AC was much better at least. what's the point of having this ? will they ever learn that a sport like Alpine Skiing doesn't need a team event? I like the idea of having the same distance for men and women in CC skiing though but are women ready for a 50km race ?
  4. Iran NOC announced the flagbearer(s) for the Asian Games, it seems they like to follow Tommy Bach's "advise" of having 2 athletes doing that Javad Foroughi (Shooting) and Nahid Kiani (Taekwondo)
  5. we sent 2 weightlifters to Cuba, 2021 World Champion Rasoul Motamedi (who is injured right now) had to participate in Cuba to keep his hopes alive for the Olympics after missing the first 2 tournaments. we have some sort of stupid league in this sport which only results in untimely injuries I hope Motamedi recovers in time to qualify for Paris but his situation doesn't look great. he still needs time to lift big numbers.
  6. from the obvious source ! https://iwf.sport/qualif2024/
  7. Finally an Asian title in fencing it's only the 2nd gold medal ever even though it should be much more. Pakdaman came from 14-10 behind to win the gold. but I hope they also do good in the team event. that's much more important in term of Olympic qualification. and looks like Korean golden generation is fading, Oh, Kim and Gu they all got eliminated early by the hands of unknown guys. (Kuwait, Uzbekistan etc) maybe they aren't the undisputed World #1 anymore
  8. Few more names are appearing on ITA website for doping issues two guys from Turkey which will put them in danger + Antropov from Kazakhstan and Aminova from TKM. that will #2 for TKM too. both Antropov and teenager Aminova won silver in the recent Asian Championships in Korea. what's interesting about Kazakhstan is that they never stop doing it. they deserve credit for their determination Antropov was famous for his heavy CJ lifts.
  9. USA wrestling team for the Worlds 2023 (after their trials called "Final X") Jordan Burroughs last year World Champ (one of all time bests) alongside last year silver medalists Thomas Gilman and Diakomihalis they all lost their trials and won't wrestle in Belgrade 2023. 57 kg – Zane Richards 61 kg – Vitali Arujau 65 kg – Nick Lee 70 kg – Zain Retherford 74 kg – Kyle Dake 79 kg – Chance Marsteller 86 kg – David Taylor 92 kg – Zahid Valencia 97 kg – Kyle Snyder 125 kg – Gable Steveson 50 kg – Sarah Hildebrandt 53 kg – Dominique Parrish 55 kg –Jacarra Winchester 59 kg –Jennifer Page 62 kg – Kayla Miracle 65 kg – Macey Kilty 68 kg – Emma Bruntil 72 kg – Amit Elor 76 kg – Adeline Gray
  10. Yes sure That's "Gam-Jeom"
  11. 1) number of turning kicks 2) number of head kicks 3) body kicks 4) punches 5) number of small touches (not good enough to score a point but still registered)
  12. Start list for Cuba Grand Prix https://iwf.sport/wp-content/uploads/downloads/2023/06/2023_Grand_Prix_I_StartBook.pdf
  13. South Korea didn't win a single medal in the women's competition
  14. It was a terrible terrible tournament with a little happy ending. Nahid Kiani became the first Iranian woman to win a gold medal in the World Championship of an Olympic sport. very interesting because few months ago she was expelled from the national team still 9 out of our 15 athletes lost in their first matches (actually I should say 8. one of those defeats was intentional ) which is a terrible terrible result. I know we have lots of talented athletes but there is something wrong with our TKD since 2015 but nobody still knows what.
  15. how do you read this ? if the qualification period ends in 31 May 2028 there will be no time for the CQs anyway or did I misread anything ?
  16. Interesting report from ITG https://www.insidethegames.biz/articles/1137519/wt-la28-qualification-system so after 2024 ranking will be based on the last 2 years and not 4! that was obvious but it took WT so many years to finally realize 4 years is too much. and looks like they want to give all Olympic quotas based on the ranking! no more continental qualifiers? I don't think that's a good idea lots of Olympic medalists (including some Olympic Champions) came from the continental qualifiers despite being very low in the ranking. Ulugbek Rashitov had no ranking points when he traveled to Tokyo but came back with a gold medal.
  17. semifinal curse continues ... to me Salimi was the better guy but who cares anymore. I think this is the 5th World Championship semifinal defeat in a row 5 bronzes by 5 different athletes , all of them lost winnable matches
  18. yeah he looked like a shadow of last year.
  19. As far as i know he wont be allowed to continue even if he wants too Lucky Khodabakhshi
  20. WT ordered the JOR-RUS semifinal to be replayed for the mistake I mentioned earlier. they postponed the 58kg final but after a lot of behind the scene talks they cancelled the plan and the Russian went to the final (and lost to KOR) looks like they couldn't "convince" Gurtsiev to go back and re-fight the semifinal. what a circus and that was the world championship semifinal the Jordanian guy clearly got robbed.
  21. It was a terrible mistake. the center referee asked to remove 2pts from Russia but instead they removed 2pts from Jordan !!! and nobody noticed it it should be 10-6 but they made it 8-8. they should never changed their name from WTF to something else. that was a well deserved name
  22. it was a tough day but kind of expected all of our let's say not-so-good athletes were in action today and they all lost early. was expecting more from Hosseinpour though and it got worse when I received the tomorrow draw. Soltani is already out at 49kg because of the Israel draw. good for Matin to win the bronze yesterday, still it sucks the way he lost the SF, he could go further. but still it's a great result, he wasn't even supposed to be here, was a last minute replacement when two other guys (both in this weight) tested positive for doping.
  23. The competition starts tomorrow. 1st day brackets are out http://www.worldtaekwondo.org/competition/view.html?nid=140001&mcd=C10&sc=in our team made it to Baku at the end. for few days they were afraid that there will be more doping cases in the team and the whole team is probably contaminated, they were almost ready to send everybody home but no more news "so far" and they traveled to Baku. maybe those two kids (happened to be roommates) took something or ate something together. I guess we will never know
  24. They also registered for the Women's football qualifiers in Asia. (didn't have to play in the 1st round) so I assume they want to participate in Paris. but as of now they didn't participate in any event in any sport. I assume that will change with Cuba weightlifting GP
  25. still yes. this is just the preliminary entry. the main one is what you register in the general meeting one day (sometimes 2 days) before the competition, that's what you can't change and it doesn't really matter I think lots of those guys (maybe including Santavy) just travel to Cuba and participate in weight-in to fulfill one of their OQ requirements. most of them won't lift a thing.
