  1. Palicka is possessed by something tonight, can't be a human having all those saves. not possible
  2. I believe that wasn't a direct red-card, that was his 3rd 2-minutes suspension. if I'm not wrong you only can review direct red cards, right ? those Bosnian refs should be in jail for what they did in the whole match but as I said before that was blessing in disguise. hopefully IHF bans him for the next match or the entire tournament. or even a life ban
  3. best 3rd placed teams in main round groups. based on points, GD etc.
  4. That was blessing in disguise that guy Afshin Sadeghi was the weak link of the team, missed so many shoots selfishly, had so many turnovers and hurt the team big team with two 2-minute suspensions earlier in the 2nd half. when the ref "wrongly" showed him the red-card, finally the rest of the team played some handball and won the match but have to say Chile was the better team overall, only our GK had a fantastic night we had lots of players in European leagues, but all of them are either retired, injured or simply not interested to play for the NT. Iran is a very weak and inexperienced team this time, our coach probably thought he "has" to play experienced guys like Sadeghi even when they are playing extremely bad. but this time those terrible Bosnian refs forced him to play someone else and that someone else scored the winning goal
  5. it depends on what you consider "popular". he is popular among those who follow this sport but that's not a big group. so let's say he is well known inside the sport community but if he walks on the streets (anywhere outside of his hometown) most probably nobody will recognize him.
  6. Today Taliban ban women from universities https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-64045497 surprised that it took them a year, they banned girls from the school (6th grade and higher) immediately. they restored almost all of their old "rules" I assume only few more are left, which is probably just a matter of time.
  7. if we had this qualification system for Tokyo Sohrab Moradi had his 2nd Olympic gold around his neck, he broke the WR by a huge margin inside the qualification period yet that wasn't enough for him since he got injured later, that super weird complicated system forced to come back despite not being fully recovered, he re-injured himself and then again re-injured himself. (still he would had been in Tokyo after some late withdrawals but our federation wasn't smart enough to leave a place vacant for him just in case) now for 2024 the path is clear for Iran Weightlifting, the goal is to qualify in heavier 3 weights and 3 Iranians are already in top 4 in these weights. I think those records are probably enough to qualify at the end. it's mostly internal competitions to see who will get the quota. I believe Rostami and Davoudi will go to Paris eventually but Dehdar (who won silver in Bogota) is probably #3 behind Motamedi and Moradi. Moradi didn't feel he is ready for competition yet and Motamedi (2021 World Champion) got injured in a stupid league competition 2-3 weeks before the World Championship I wonder how many countries have a "Weightlifting league" that's stupid. that's too many unnecessary competitions in such a tough sport. that's probably why half of our team is always injured.
  8. based on this, we were supposed to have the OQT groups (hosts, draw etc) today, 19 December but still nothing from FIVB and it seems they postponed it.
  9. at the end of the day he came all the way to Bogota to just register and lift nothing several athletes did the same for Olympic qualification purposes but you have to participate in 3 events (out of 5) to eligible ( didn't count two mandatory events in KSA and Thailand) isn't it cheaper to participate in two continental champs in your continent + Grand Prix in Qatar ? or maybe those federations are very rich and can afford sending someone to other side of the world in Colombia just for that reason
  10. good for her, nobody will never know that she finished last in a World Cup race. she probably lives in Europe at the moment (or permanently) Iran Ski Fed would never send anybody to a World Cup and there is not a single line in their website about it.
  11. Ismail Musukaev just pulled out of "UWW World Team" at the Wrestling World Cup few days ago. just saying.
  12. @Sindo you have 2023 World Shooting Championships as host TBD but Baku (AZE) will host the event from 14 AUG - 3 SEP also I posted dates and host of AQT events in Handball in Handball Qualification threads. QAT will host the men's event and women's event will be held in JPN
  13. Japan will host the Asian Qualification tournament for women, 17-26 August 2023
  14. Qatar will host the Asian Qualification tournament 18-28 October 2023 unlike other continents, Asian Championship is not an Olympic qualifier AHF has a separate tournament for the OQT.
  15. yeah I just noticed that and removed that part of my comment but that was too late
  16. Belgrade will host the 2023 World Wrestling Championship instead of Russia (two years in a row in the same city ? surprise surprise) they still didn't change the dates but UWW said they are considering it since it will be at the same time as the Asian Games
  17. that was a crazy night, Carlos Nasar bombed out at Snatch and then broke the World Record by3kg at CJ !!! Tian Tao and Shi Zhiyong just made fun by entering big weights in the table but never even entering the competition. (they just entered here to fulfill one of their Olympic Qualification events) it was a bad night for Iran, Javadi was totally out of shape and Rostami lost the gold medal once again to losing his focus and ended up with nothing !! (finishing 4th) that was his best and maybe last chance to win a world title without Nasar and Tian.
  18. USA won the title 6-4. I was expecting the same final result but we had lots of surprising results. Jordan Burroughs finally lost to an Iranian wrestler, he was apparently 14-0 against our wrestlers until last night. our reserve 74kg who got manhandled by Salkazanov the other day also surprised everybody by beating Jason Nolf but on other hand we were expecting much more at 70 and 86. 70kg Yazdani (not that Yazdani) lost to a controversial last second challenge) and our coach made a gamble sending our 92kg World Champion to 97kg to face 97kg World Champion Kyle Snyder. with this Iran lost both matches because our reserve 92kg guy made lots of mistakes and Ghasempour at 97kg couldn't stand against Snyder who was 10kg heavier than him. overall it was a good competition, entertaining matches. I think if both teams had their full squads A team USA still could win the dual 5-5 or 6-4. but we have some brilliant youngsters like 18 years old Masoumi who is beating everybody at 125kg. and Ukraine won the women's title for the first time after beating China
  19. The freestyle World Cup (men and women) started last night in Iowa, USA. after some interesting duals, China and Ukraine made it to the women's final and it will be Iran vs USA in freestyle final (after the midnight CET time) USA won both of its group matches easily while Iran had a hard time against "All World Team" but yet won the dual 6-4. Iran/USA is always interesting in wrestling BUT both teams are missing some big names. we have our #1 guy at 65, 79 and 92 while USA has its #1 wrestler at 61, 65, 97 and 125. I can't see how Iran can win this dual because USA is almost guaranteed 5 wins (at least couple of them by superiority) and even by some miracle Iran wins all other 5 matches, that will still end 5-5 in favor of team USA. but Iran won the Greco World Cup title against all odds let's see what they can do tonight.
  20. I can't remember a weightlifting competition when two guys from Group B end up winning total medals. one medal happens sometimes but two ? maybe this is the first time in history Rahmat EA intentionally puts himself in Group B, everybody knows it, he broke CJ world record too but I think the Kazakh guy wasn't there intentionally . it just happened because some other guys gave unnecessarily high entry records. this time entries were available online the whole time and you could see what entry record is good enough to put you in Group A. and you rarely see average weightlifters from China. one or two maybe but there are 5 or 6 average athletes from China already what's up with Chinese weightlifting ? @Vic Liu is this just not the A team ? or the new generation is not as good as the old one ? (probably because of COVID and the problem it created)
  21. the whole format is OK with giving 3 chances to each boxer to qualify. I was complaining about how they distributed the continental quotas
  22. you rarely see two Chinese weightlifters in a women's World Championship both fail to win a total medal and also someone else won the gold medal for Colombia. the clear favorite Kuo wasn't even in her best shape. it will be even harder to win the gold when she is ready (and Diaz of PHI will probably join the party in this weight too) I think one thing is clear. 59kg is one of two weights that China has to ignore for the 2024 Olympics. (unless something super crazy happens in future)
  23. people should notice that this is the new boxing qualification formula. not just some font change I found it very unfair for some continents Asia wasn't "this" behind Europe to get almost half those number of quotas. and how the hell Oceania has the same number as the much bigger Africa. yeah I understand the smart IOC doesn't want to have 3rd place playoffs between bronze medal winners at the continental Games, it should be 2 or 4 quotas for each continent. but if 3 is not possible. it should be 2 for Europe too.
  24. is there any livestream for Group B/C competitions ? I know we have copyright issues for Group A. but IWF usually provides free livestream for lower groups. can't see that on their website this time
  25. I highly doubt Chamizo has a realistic chance to win the gold even if Russian wrestlers don't participate. (either for Russia, ROC or even as a paid mercenary for another country) Kyle Dake is not going to lose to him or Salkazanov. I think Chamizo had his best chance to win the gold in 2016, but yes you never can write him off completely. in 2022 Worlds he could lose to Demirtas and Tsabalov but found a moment of magic to win both matches. that's always possible with him but with Dake you need to do that more than once.
