  1. it's 14 actually. yeah 12 will qualify but I believe France will qualify 1 athlete at least itself (which will annul host nation's direct quota) and there is a good chance they can't find an eligible athlete for the wild card. still it will be really hard to qualify for everybody.
  2. This is very disappointing to cancel such a big event this close to the competition. specially when things are going back to normal in most countries postponing it to the next year is also a bad idea because of the Olympic qualifiers in most sports next year. I still hope it doesn't happen. @Vic Liu I asked you about this couple times before sorry but now I have a valid reason to ask again. what's our chance ?
  3. all FINA qualification documents are now removed from IOC website
  4. oh thanks. I read it something like 5 times and didn't notice that
  5. I have hard time to understand weightlifting qualification https://stillmed.olympics.com/media/Documents/Olympic-Games/Paris-2024/Paris2024-QS-Weightlifting.pdf that section "Consequences due to Anti-Doping Rule Violations" can someone explain this one in simple English how many doping violations will get you banned ? 2 or 3 ? what's the difference between parts (b) and (e) the rest of the qualification is easy to understand, much better than the 2020 version which was probably the worst qualification system ever
  6. the last time we had an update (on qualification documents) was 8 April, 11 days ago. any idea when Tommy B is going to publish more of those PDFs?
  7. first ever IWF Street Weightlifting Competition in mixed team format https://iwf.sport/2022/04/14/iwf-unveils-new-iwf-street-weightlifting-competition-and-athlete-ambassador-program/ those two words together to makes Tommy happy
  8. does it mean China is slowly changing its policy of (almost) not going anywhere? or this is just an exception since Mongolia is your neighbor.
  9. Asian Championships entries https://uww.org/article/wrestleulaanbaatar-asian-championships-entries very surprised to see Japan, Korea and China altogether in the start list ! specially China they are ignoring most of the World Championships even in their favorite sports and all of a sudden they want to send a team to the Asian Wrestling Championship!? @Vic Liu how come that's even possible ? even though I won't believe it until I see Chinese wrestlers on the mat it looks like most of Asian countries are bringing their A team probably preparing for the Asian Games. but for Iran this is a mixed team. a mixture of underachieved veterans, some bright future talents and bunch of nobodies per our "rules" Asian Champ is a part of our trial process for the Worlds/Asian Games and those who won a World/Olympic medal last year are exempt from competing here (it sounds weird because participating at the Continental Championship should be an honor not a burden ) therefore none of our big names are here thanks to these new weird rules. (there are only 2 former world medalist in 20-man squad )
  10. in a world without double standards they should ban those athletes (for 10 years) and countries (for 4 years) instead of just saying "Ok, bye" but unfortunately we don't live in such a world.
  11. yeah that's why I was confused. either way this part is not clear and I believe we will have some problems when the qualification tournaments start. if they seriously have such a rule (which I doubt) it's better for Oceania to cancel its qualification tournament, that way they still can have 8 athletes in the Games.
  12. it doesn't make sense, they didn't mention it anywhere else in the document they didn't make Oceania an exemption , and they also didn't mention two quotas. it says "a quota place" to me it makes sense to take the 2nd quota in this situation (with 3 or 2 competitors) but still the tournament champion qualifies for the Olympics
  13. how do you read this (from Taekwondo document) does it mean they don't award quota if less than 4 athletes registered for a weight ? it doesn't make sense that happened a lot before and it's highly possible again even in Africa and Asia in heavier weights. in Oceania it's a sure thing in almost all weights (because they limit NOCs to 2 per gender)
  14. there was no extra quota actually in case that was necessary they would take it from Asia
  15. interestingly UWW gives no quota to the host country (in Tokyo Japan was guaranteed 1 quota for each gender in case they fail to qualify and everybody knew they won't) I believe France will qualify at least 1 or 2 wrestlers (most probably in the women's side) but nothing is guaranteed for them. it's possible to not see a single French wrestler in Paris 2024!
  16. IOC itself is uploading more sports including basketball, boxing, rugby and Archery (beside wrestling and shooting) https://olympics.com/ioc/documents/olympic-games/paris-2024-olympic-games
  17. only one change World Champions now offers 5 spots (instead of 6) and there will be 1 more quota available for the last chance qualifier. it will be 3 instead of 2
  18. IOC is simply great I just tried this link and to my surprise there is a document behind it I believe some other sports might be available. you just have to try https://stillmed.olympics.com/media/Documents/Olympic-Games/Paris-2024/Paris2024-QS-Wrestling.pdf
  19. Did IOC announced they already published some of the qualifications ? it seems they didn't even here in totallympics we probably wouldn't know if it wasn't for @Vic Liu nice job by IOC, making this a top secret thing I assume only few people in the world know about this right now
  20. revolutionary changes in Volleyball qualification half the quotas will be awarded based on the world ranking !!!
  21. this amazes me more that people don't even read the news they are posting
  22. I see , so that was the reason why Rajbek didn't wrestle in any of the Olympic qualifiers, (he wrestled at a non-Olympic weight in 2019 Worlds) he was good but still not even half good as his younger brother, not even close Turpal is an Olympic medal prospect, and I know it's too early but as someone who follows this sport VERY closely I can say He is Olympic champion material and can win several world titles. (specially if he doesn't gain weight and stays at this 87kg weight, going to 97kg is another story) interestingly in wrestling you can participate for a country and under its flag without being a citizen. I wonder how many other sports have the same rule.
  23. I wonder if it's wise to give Olympic quotas almost entirely based on the ranking in a tough and injury prone sport like boxing. I mean that boxing task force cancelled two Olympic qualification events because they hadn't enough time between the events. this is boxing, not tennis you can't compete twice in a month, there should be something like 3 months gap between the events, remember any of those events will take a week or more and they have to watch their bodyweight everyday to not get disqualified. it sucks that most of the guys who make decisions for the sport were not serious athletes themselves , they don't know what it means to cut weight, several times a year. that's torture but they have no other option if they don't want to miss the Olympics. Mr Bach definitely doesn't know anything about cutting weight. he just orders to cut events in these sports with several bodyweights without thinking about athletes' health.
  24. there is one terrible rule in Greco-Roman wrestling and this is creating lots of problems recently. since 2021 there is no point for the 3rd caution which means lots of matches can end up 1-1 (caution for each one and no technical point) in this case whoever is active in the first period (and most probably the entire match) will lose the match because he received the 2nd caution (and therefore the last point for his opponent which is the tiebreaking criteria) it means the better wrestler will be penalized for being better ! I believe it started with Viktor Nemes who was intentionally passive in the first period (in some of 2021 tournaments) to receive the 1st caution. now lots of wrestlers follow the same tactic (as plan B in case nobody scores and the match ends up 1-1) we won't notice that if one wrestler is passive intentionally but what if both of them are very passive?! that's something like those badminton matches in 2012 London Olympics. it happened a lot yesterday and today, even UWW official had to stop one match and use the loud speaker to warn both wrestlers (HUN/BUL 77kg) to do something otherwise he will disqualify both of them. I saw that also some other times when the center referee (or mat chairman) warn them for possible disqualification. (the last one was ITA/GEO 87kg bronze medal match) lots of wrestlers won undeserved World and Olympic medals with the same tactic, you can see lots of 1-1 results in heavier weights in Greco-Roman. I can see UWW officials now realized what a terrible mistake they did with this rule change. I hope they fix it soon. it's time to change the tiebreaking criteria in case of 1-1 score.
