  1. it sucks when you outscore your opponent 43-24 in 3 rounds yet the ref finds a way to disqualify you. with new rules they give too much power to the center ref and he/she can simply disqualify you no matter what you try. this is 49kg final from yesterday
  2. yeah Taftian ended up running 10.05 in the semifinal with -0.2 wind and 10.02 (NR) in the final with 1.7 m/s wind. still a NR after all with just 0.01 on other hand, our women's 100m NR was broken by a huge margin from 11.44 to 11.12 !! quite an achievement for Fasihi (also winning the silver medal) considering the situation for women in Iran.
  3. that makes sense, his PB (which is also the NR) is 10.03. it was unbelievable breaking PB by 0.15 seconds in heats (where he didn't even push himself 100%) but that result alone made some people excited here, like "wow all of a sudden we have a world level 100m runner" they will learn the truth when he runs the semifinal tomorrow
  4. It's really hard to follow this competition with worst ever website, the TV coverage is terrible as well. I was watching 100m heats today and our guy Taftian run his heat by 9.88 !! at first I was laughing no way it can be correct, but it turned out the correct result first Iranian ever beating 10 seconds mark but then we were informed that it won't be counted because of the wind. which was 5.1 m/s !! I wonder how much such windy situation can help?! would he still run under 10 seconds without wind's help ? having Para-sports is a very bad idea, they can be demonstration events at best. we have only Turkish swimmers in some events in women's para-swimming.

  6. The official website still sucks, no startlist, nothing in PDF, they just write the results (late) the TV coverage wasn't great either, I was watching it live but until the result came up I didn't know one of the Iranians actually lapped the group and won a silver medal live TV coverage only showed 3 Cyclists lapping the group I still hope things improve in next couple of days before the official start.
  7. The competition will start tomorrow unofficially with men and women Scratch event in Cycling. well I can't remember I ever seen Cycling events before the opening ceremony but there is always a first time for everything the official website is still terrible. I really hope they improve the "result section" the current one isn't useful. but at least I could check some entry lists in some sports. we will have some high level competitions in wrestling and taekwondo. most of Central Asian countries are bringing their A teams in apparently all sports. I assume for the same reason as Iran, they were preparing for the Asian Games and with its cancellation ISG is just a good replacement. interesting to see some international stars like Mutaz Eissa Barshim or Oksana Chusovitina in the start list. overall it seems most countries are taking it almost seriously. so far there is no sign of Egypt in the list Syria is listed with just one athlete (I assume that's because of current situation in SYR/TUR borders) and while there are Iraqi delegation in the start list , they announced they won't participate since Turkey bombed some places in Iraq recently.
  8. that's a UWW rule too. they award only 1 bronze for events with less than 8 competitors.
  9. do they have different set of rules in CWG ? because in normal UWW events they would award 3 medals in such a case (just one bronze)
  10. it's different, that was the original idea with 52 matches, now it's 48 with probably a new format
  11. the only answer I can think of 4 groups of 3 teams group winner directly to the QF 2nd and 3rd to the playfoffs! wow I hope I'm wrong
  12. how come volleyball has 48 matches ? (24 for each gender) it doesn't make sense. if we count 8 matches for knockout rounds, how we can have a preliminary round with 16 matches ? even with 3 groups of 4 it should be 18 what I am missing here ? only 6 teams advance to the knockout round ?
  13. not the biggest surprise ever, both Iran and China are struggling recently. Iran is simply not as good as before and China had issues with COVID from the start of the competition. they almost lost to Bahrain! since 2007 and the rise of Iranian basketball we medaled every time at the Asian Cup except two times in 2011 and now 2022 and both times we lost to Jordan in QF they are just our nemesis, in 2011 they beat our best ever team and now this. Jordan had hard time against low level Indonesia and almost lost to TPE in pre-QF match (you should watch it if you already didn't they only survived by a buzzer beater from the half court) but the same Jordan changed gear and played superb when they faced Iran
  14. Pakdaman once against lost another QF he really has to learn how to control his nerves, he easily loses his temper and Bazadze did everything he could to make it happen. that was dirty but worked well for Georgia
  15. Iran is not going to participate in this World Athletics Championships. or I should say "can't participate" reason: visa being denied we had these problems with certain countries before but now it sounds like a blanket ban. they are denying visa for everybody in all sports. Serbia denied visa for athletes from Kosovo for the World Boxing Championship and the whole world went crazy against them. but yes I get this. this is law of jungle.
  16. first question , what if a team wins the continental event and also reaches the QF at the World Championships? who is going to take the quota ? 1) next team in the continent ? 2) will be reallocated to the ranking ? 3) draw of lots between 1/8 final losers ?
  17. yeah that's great news for all those who care about human right blah blah. the hero escaped from the Genghis khan land (where they wanted to ate him alive) and landed somewhere else to continue his fight for human right and separating Sport from politics. he finally met his long time lover Sagi Muki on Tatami. hopefully they marry someday and have kids. I used to follow his results but don't give a shit anymore. he can go to hell. our sport has bigger problems to be worried about. but this is still amazing how he sold his story to the world. I assume people will believe anything negative about Iran instantly without even using their brain. (partially thanks to the corrupt regime we have in charge)
  18. Iran was supposed to send B or C teams to this event but now the Asian Games is postponed, that changed the plan and we are sending mostly our A teams. I believe only in few sports (Volleyball, wrestling and maybe Taekwondo and Karate) it will be 2nd tier squads. it will be 279 athletes (3rd largest delegation apparently after Turkey and Azerbaijan) in almost all of the sports, except Bocce, Kickboxing and Rhythmic Gymnastics. we could send a strong kickboxing team but we have lots of internal problems in this sport most interestingly Iran will send a Judo team despite our Judo federation being suspended by IJF. apparently since the event is not directly organized by IJF but the organizing committee asked IJF for confirmation and IJF sent a letter saying that's OK. I gave up on Judo long time ago and all of former NT members left this sport already, they are preparing a new team which is probably very weak. @thepharoah I can't see Egypt in any of team sports, will you even send a delegation ?
  19. Our NT is in big trouble once again, (the situation was already bad) the team is officially divided now. there were strong rumors that the current Croat coach will be fired and someone else (most probably Carlos Queiroz) will coach the team in Qatar. half of NT players posted a statement on their IG against this claiming NT players don't want any change at the moment and few hours later the other half posted another statement saying this now everybody is counting, who is in Group 1 and who is in Group 2. interestingly some players (at least 2) posted both statements on their instagrams we already knew some of these guys are dumb, they just confirmed it. it's hard to see Dragan Skocic coaching this team in Qatar after this. half of the team clearly don't even respect him, but if they change the coach what they are going to do with the other half ? this is just disastrous when Skocic took over Iran was in deep shit after losing to Iraq and Bahrain in the first round. but he won back to back matches and qualified for the WC, still nobody gave him credit. I feel sorry for him, personally I think it's dumb to change the coach right now. but I guess that's inevitable now.
  20. everything has changed since I wrote this comment, Iran became a completely different team and beat USA, Canada and Poland to make up for all of those lost ranking points. I know it's still a tough task to stay in top 10-11 in the ranking to qualify for the Olympics but at least we are not hopeless anymore. even if they lose next 3 matches, 5 wins is already much better than my expectations. good to see we still can challenge top teams even with this new squad.
  21. Having 8 quotas (6 + 2 hosts) for Asia/Oceania is really generous and yet our team most probably will fail to qualify we used to beat Kazakhstan by 30pts but this time Iran managed to lose twice to this team and it's not like Kazakhstan improved a lot. first defeat was OK, we missed some key players and Kazakhs had a dream day from behind the arc but this time in this window we gathered all we had and everybody was confident that we will beat Kazakhstan handily but it was another humiliating defeat, Iran also set a new World Record in failed 3 pointers, our guys finished the game 0 of 19 from 3 points line (even our U16 girls' team could do better) Kazakhstan losing to Bahrain in the last game gave us as little hope but still I can't see this team winning 3 or 4 games in the next round, they have to win 2 at very least to stay alive. Korea's disqualification and Iran's extremely poor performance made the 2nd round predictable, I believe NZ, Lebanon, Jordan, Australia, China and Kazakhstan will qualify from Asia alongside those 2 hosts.
  22. wow I didn't know Egyptian athletes face the same kind of problems. it's usually only our problem one of the Iranians is the Olympic Champion Sajjad Ganjzadeh (the other 4 are world championships medalists too) I can bet it's highly unlikely to see a headline on ITG or any other website about "two Olympic champions denied visa by the great mighty USA"
  23. I didn't know IOC is OKish with Jaloud, I thought they consider him part of Ajan's team. good to know at least there is a chance for one of the oldest Olympic sports to survive. Thanks and good to see you back
  24. if I'm not wrong a total of 40 athletes from Iran qualified for the WG but they are all being removed from IWGA website one by one. (13 are left but I believe it will be zero at the end) WG is not under our NOC's umbrella and national federations had to go through the visa process on their own. some of them were smart enough to withdraw since they realized it doesn't worth it. (considering what country is hosting the event) but one federation which was VERY interested was Karate. they did everything in time to get the visa but the whole team got denied and WKF (instead of pushing the organizers to do something) just replaced Iranians with other athletes. nobody probably knows or cares about the World Games here, I got interested in this event from 2017 but I surely will not follow this anymore. Thanks for showing us once more that how sports are not mixed with politics. and I hope people here learn from this. it doesn't worth sending any team to certain hostile countries unless it's highly necessary.
