  1. never had to use the mouse scroll this much to find Iran in the medal table in a wrestling competition but at least I hope they learn from their mistakes and come back stronger next year which is also the Olympic qualifier. we lost so many close matches here . maybe next time we can win "some" of them. and we are supposed to have a better seeding system for 2019. this year draw was unbelievably one sided in most of weights.
  2. that was very smart. I guess you are the only person thinking about such idea and btw Iranians never withdraw "officially" for that reason. there is always a legitimate excuse . injuries, not making weight, etc. back in 2016 they didn't even send Alireza Khojasteh to Rio because there was an Israeli in his weight. (they did the same with Javad Mahjoub in 2012 London) and it doesn't change anything even if IOC bans Iran completely from the Olympics it will not change anything I assure you that. at least in near future nothing can force the Iranian officials for that. Judo is not even half important here. and as a sport fan obviously I hate mixing sports with politics. I always did and will always hate that. but Iranians are mostly "victims" of that. this year when Iran Volleyball NT had to go to USA for one of the weekends, US officials locked them down at the airport like prisoners for almost half a day. FIVB apologized Iran claiming they will investigate the accident , but what happened ? they awarded USA hosting the next 3 VNL finals. our football federation still can't get the money FIFA should pay them for 2014 World Cup because of the sanctions let alone 2018 World Cup. I stop here but I can give you 100 examples like this in different sports , in different ways they are mixing sports and politics.
  3. I also don't mind Estonia medal in any other sport and or even in wrestling by any other wrestler. just not this guy. I just can't stop myself disliking people getting what they don't deserve. in Nabi's case this is happening for him so many times. yeah he didn't let Kayaalp score, which is a big thing but he also didn't score himself. caution for both of them , Kayaalp was leading 1-1 and while both of them were doing nothing, they gave Kayaalp another passivity caution in last 40 seconds , gifting the match to Nabi. I know someone has to win in situations like this when they are doing nothing but Nabi was no way the "more active" wrestler. he is always "more passive"
  4. surprise surprise. no fishy call in the final. that was a real fight. in last 2 minutes I was expecting a caution and point for Lorincz but fortunately this time they let the better wrestler wins. and what Hungarian coach was thinking asking for that challenge in first period ? another free gift ?!
  5. well I hate to see the medals being decided outside the mat. that was indeed a 4pts throw in1st period. things would be different with a 4-1 on scoreboard. I give credit to the Swedish guy he was willing to take the risk. when you are losing it doesn't matter if it's by 1pt or 10. you have to take the risk. only if our wrestlers were as brave as him. now the last match, let's see what's their plan to give the gold to Lorincz. he should not be in the final in first place. Kim got robbed against him last night
  6. not really. most of Russian wrestlers faced brutal draw here. they were all well-prepared and deserved the gold medal. I think they got one or two dubious calls in freestyle but in Greco-Roman they were very very dominant. I'm sure I didn't mention Kudla here in this championship but yeah your memory works very well. I just hate wrestlers winning medal by doing NOTHING and just winning by cautions. Metehan Basar for sure and I can add Nemes to the list as well. he won last year title only by cautions if I'm not wrong he scored one "real" point in the whole competition ! and maybe the Norwegian guy Stig Andre Berge. and there was a guy from Denmark Mark Madsen. I assume he is retired now. but nobody is even close to Nabi for me. this guy won several medals by poor luck. I'm sure you guys think I'm exaggerating but if you watch his matches in youtube you won't find him executing a technique or something. he is a two time World Champion ! he is just hard to score on. that's the only thing I give him credit for.
  7. well, that was unexpected. so after all our Greco team won't go home completely "empty handed" no fun to win a medal by walkover but I'm sure Aliyari will take that. and interestingly I saw a bit of tear from our coach, he knows he will get crucified by media when the team comes back home. what a disaster
  8. what I can say about this final ?! probably the easiest match of Semenov's career. it happens when UWW does magic in the draw and put ALL favorites in one side. it happens when someone who isn't even in top 10 in the weight advances to the final by having a very easy draw.
  9. who could expect this Korean guy winning a medal ?! even in that super easy bracket he was one of the weakests ! he lost to so many below average Iranian wrestlers in Asia but now he won this historical medal for Korea. first ever Heavy weight medal for his country. also I'm glad Heiki Lucky lost. I think there was ZERO action in all 3 matches he wrestled here. he is always like this. extremely boring and usually cautions go on his way and making him the "winner" not today at least
  10. Just watched the last action, Turkey scored a takedown but they annulled that because she grabbed a pulled Mongolian hair for a moment before the action, I'm not really familiar with such action, things like that never happen in men's wrestling. they penalized her for that , giving 1pt to Mongolia. but it took time to add that 1 extra point to the scoreboard and for a second Turkish girl thought she is going to win the match
  11. and I was expecting Mollaei didn't show up for the bronze medal match. that's a shame our World Champion has to withdraw for such stupid reasons. and this is not going to stop here. this Israeli guy is good and he will be always a threat to Mollaei wherever he goes. and I still remember very well what happened in 2004 Olympics, Arash Miresmaeili was 2 time World Champion at the time. clear favorite for the gold but he had to withdraw because of the Israel draw.
  12. I'm not sure if there is something against it but I won't be surprised if he doesn't show up. that was just a guess specially if Israeli athlete wins the gold, even though Mollaei won't know that his match will be held before the final
  13. I didn't watch the match to say something for sure but losing intentionally was the easiest solution. after all he is World Rank 1 and he can afford losing few points in the WR. even though his SF opponent was pretty good and I wonder if he shows up for bronze medal match, because if he wins he has to show up on the same podium as Israeli athlete. but he has some personal reasons to go and beat that Kazakh judoka, he lost to the same guy in Asian Games final by a last second controversial shido.
  14. actually because IOC forced them to have 7 weight classes at the Olympics. so they thought 7 is too low. so they changed the whole thing to have a 10 weight classes including 3 non-Olympics and as usual they do the same for women.
  15. impressive result for Kazakhstan B team. winning 2 bronze medals. their A team was less successful in Asian Games.. 60kg wrestler had some helps from the refs and was also lucky but this Shermakhanbet guy was indeed impressive. never heard of him before yesterday. he went through a very tough draw to win this bronze.
  16. well that's true. Greco is boring. once IOC was very serious about dropping it at 2004 but you should know Greco is more popular in Europe. (I mean apart from Ex soviet countries) and they won't let that happen. and beside it's easier for UWW to give medals to different countries in Greco. btw UWW is trying to make Greco watchable by changing the rules almost yearly. but they just made it worse. made it more corrupt . more controversial calls. it's mostly in hand of the refs to decide the winner.
  17. well there is no women's GR exists as far as I know. I remember during that IOC session deciding about wrestling's fate, (when IOC dropped wrestling first and made it compete with Squash and few other sports for the last spot) they asked the UWW officials about this and the female representative of UWW said so far women don't show interest in Greco-Roman globally.
  18. well next time UWW can just sends medals instead of wasting money having a competition. beside that so-called "draw" so many matches today just decided by a caution. that was funny they made Kayalp losing to Heiki Lucky by a caution in last minute (not that Kayalp deserved the win but Nabi didn't deserve it too) , they did the same with Kim Hyeoon-woo made him losing to Tamas Lorincz. but I was impressed by the American guy Adam Coon. yeah he had a very easy draw but still winning 4 matches in a row by fall in super heavyweight is something like a miracle ! he will most probably lose the final to Semenov but still. another surprise was Milov of Bulgaria. checked his resume, nothing special until today. again he had a very easy draw but still he wrestled very well. Aleksanyan had a brutal draw, he narrowly escaped the Georgian guy of Italy, he was down 6-0 against Norway but somehow found a way to score 10 ! again in QF he had hard time against Nadereishvili still won it 4-3 but poor guy lost it to Evloev in the semifinal. this time a well deserved win for Evloev. as World and Olympic champion he didn't deserve such a brutal draw. of course he was probably tired against Evloev (who was great today) but this is FILA/UWW. justice is the last thing they care about. they claim next year the seeding will be better and this year it was a joke only because of new bodyweight classes. we will see.
  19. They are both nice guys. but American wrestling journalists talked alot about that match, (not really Snyder himself) and made Sadullaev extra motivated about that. beside that, that defeat in Paris was the first "official" defeat of his career. and while Russian coaches wanted him to try 92kg (which fits more his natural bodyweight) he wanted to go 97kg and took his revenge against Snyder. PS: I know most of you guys here think that only Olympic weight classes matter but I'm telling you those guys in wrestling community don't think like that. they will start thinking about the Olympics from next year because of the Olympic qualification process but this year ? no it doesn't matter. a World title is a world title.
  20. IWF announced the list of new World Standard records for new weight classes. this time they look reasonable. last time they did that in 1998 some of their standards were too high and nobody never achieved them ! they had to make some modifications later after few years. but I assume this time after few years we won't have any World Standard Record remaning https://www.iwf.net/results/results_newbw/
  21. I wonder if we really had a "draw" or someone just handpicked it. unbelievably one sided draw for all 3 weights for tomorrow and of course all 3 Iranians are in the tougher side as usual. but this time they had no chance to begin with. makes it easier for me to just watch and enjoy without any expectations. we have 10 wrestlers in top half of 130kg, all 4 medalists from last year are here ! plus two Olympic bronze medalists. and current World Junior champion (who is a gold medal treat even this year) from Georgia plus former world bronze medalist Chernetskyi of Ukraine. which means 8 out of 10 are former or current World or Olympic medalists. and you can add a guy from Iran to the list to make it complete. we also have Kazakhstan here ! and NOBODY in bottom draw is a former world medalist. there are 2-3 good wrestlers like the German Popp but none of them are big deal comparing to those 8 wrestlers in top half. looks like a perfect draw for Balint Lam of Hungary ! and if you take a look at 97kg draw, Balazs Kiss from Hungary will NOT face any former world medalist until the final ! only Kajaia probably can do damage here I think. while in bottom half we have Aleksanyan, Evloev, Naderishvili, Noumonvi, Hrabovic, Nuriyev and 3-4 more good wrestlers. 77kg draw is no better. again Hungarian wrestler in the easier side, at least this time Lorincz can't walk into the final. there is Kim Hyeon-woo. considering the draw Bacsi and Korpasi had yesterday, I wonder how is that possible all Hungarian wrestlers are getting super easy draws like this.
  22. oh man that was EXTREMELY stupid from Tasmuradov ! he left the action and asking/ordering his coach to challenge about something only he knows ! Maryanyan was still on the mat and he could try another gut wrench.
  23. I really like this Egyptian kid, that was sad to see him broken after the match. and he has a good future ahead of him but he is way too one-dimensional . he is very tough, he reminds me of some of our golden generation wrestlers. but he has to add more to his arsenal to be successful in senior level. just pushing and being tough is not enough. because sometimes you give up a 4pts throw and with this style there is no way you can come back from this.
  24. interesting that both of them were quite unknown before today ! I believe they used the element of surprise to win few matches. but Russians probably scouted then very well for the afternoon session when they had the time. yeah very bad for South Korea. one of them even lost to Ecuador ! well Greco is not popular in USA. most of their current team members are freestyle rejectees . if someone fails to make the team in freestyle then he tries Greco ! we had the same situation in Iran 20 years ago.
  25. oh, our last gold medal chance is gone this is what I hate about Greco, one mistake and you are done. Nouri dominated Beleniuk for the entire 6 minutes but gave up a 4pts throw on his own attack which was enough to lose everything
