Qualification Tracker

  1. @thepharoah it seems the IWF calendar isn't completely accurate ! for example they didn't list the Friendship tournament in Tokyo (Olympic test event) as an Olympic qualification event but then I see they count those results here https://www.iwf.net/qualif/menu/ there might be other eligible events as well. but when I checked the situation for Mohamed Ihab, he had 3 events in the first period. but still nothing in the 2nd period (may-October 2019). he has to participate in one of those 2 events in USA or SUI, even a poor result will be enough for him.
  2. that will be enough to keep them alive. we have the same problem with our Olympic champion Sohrab Moradi, because of a surgery he missed this WCh, and if you see most of those October events are continental events. only 2 events in USA and Switzerland are possible. you have to participate in at least one of them. (and since USA won't let the Iranians to participate, Switzerland is the only chance for Moradi, even with one hand, he has to participate)
  3. Are u sure about that ? because I think you are wrong the 2nd window is from 1 May to 31 October 2019. there are/were only limited number of IWF-santioned events in this period of time. I took a quick look and didn't see any Egyptian weightlifter in those events. only these events are held and will be held in that period of time, per IWF calendar June IWF Junior World Championships British International Open Pan-American Junior Championships July Oceania Senior & Junior Championships August Cup of the Blue Swords (Germany) September African Junior Championships IWF World Championships October San Diego International Open 12th Mediterranean Cup Nordic Senior Championships European Junior Championships European U23 Championships Asian Junior Championships Asian Youth Championships 49th "Challenge 210" (Switzerland) I don't have the result of that August event in Germany but I think your athletes didn't participate in other events so far. (no idea about the African Junior but that's not good enough for Mohamed Ihab for example)
  4. oh that's terrible. and beside that. your athletes "need" to participate in an IWF-sanctioned event in this 6-month period. if they don't , they can't participate at the Olympics no matter what. suspension or not.
  5. NOC, some countries like Iran and Russia don't care who win the quota. the trial process for the Olympics is the same as any other year.
  6. No. he retired after a doping ban. our federation also won't let him wrestle anywhere even if he changes his mind. when you are banned for doping you have to pay something to the UWW as penalty (I don't know how much) and our federation has a rule that the wrestler himself has to pay that. he didn't though.
  7. and final quotas in Greco-Roman go to 60: 77: 130: Iran, Russia. Germany and Uzbekistan are the most successful nations in GR with 3 quotas.
  8. Olympic quotas so far (from top half, usually the luckier guys) 60: 77: 130: Nabi actually scored himself (and didn't win just by cautions) to win the quota. that's surprising. and Geraei had a comeback against Cataraga (who is a great athlete I have to admit) to make it 3 quotas for Iran. that was nerve wrecking . from 0-5 to 5-5. winning 3 quotas is a good result. I didn't expect more at all but when I'm looking back. we could win 5 actually. we got bad calls at 87 and 97. and I can say both of them got robbed in their last matches for the quota. we have nobody in the final but still our young team did well here. we have 3 in the bronze medal match later today. I hope for 2 medals.
  9. why not ? this is Greco-Roman after all. it's not like they can score at will. I open 2-3 mats at the same time in my browser, of course usually I focus on just one but still watch the others too if something happens. freestyle will be harder because there are more actions but I can handle it
  10. no it's not. but they can register more than 1 wrestlers just in case they want to have a last minute change, but when it comes to the draw. only one of them will be allowed.
  11. now let's take a look at my early predictions about the Olympic quotas. I got 3 correctly from 67, 4 from 87, and 5 from 97, 12 out of 18. not that bad from what I see I already got 8 correctly from these 3 weights after the semifinals. will know the exact number tomorrow after the repechage. even though we some huge surprised at 77kg nobody could predicted them.
  12. booooooo I was waiting for this battle of giants. I don't think Aleksanyan was really injured. he was just afraid of losing to Evloev again. Evloev is the best wrestler in this weight right now, he could win the gold anyway but here he won it by almost doing nothing. the only decent opponent he had was Kajaia. the rest was too easy for him (to be honest even Kajaia was piece of cake for him)
  13. I hate matches like this. nobody scored. but I think at least Beleniuk was better and deserved it more. Lorincz got lucky once to win the semifinal by cautions. it was his turn to lose. I wonder what's the best solution for matches like this ?! before 2004 we had no tie breaker like this. 3 minutes of extra time and if the score was still tied. the one with less passivity caution was the winner. in case of a tie in cautions, the refs had to decide who was more "active" throughout the match.
  14. the last score is not the first tie breaker. Mohamed had a 4 pointer that would gave him the advantage. 1) bigger points . 4+1 >> 2+2+1 2) cautions (not passivity cautions) 3) last score
  15. Kudla vs Taheri (Iran) ; nothing is happening, first caution for Kudla. second caution for Iran. 1-1 and no third caution despite the fact our wrestler tried everything Kudla vs Belarus : nothing is happening, first caution for Belarus, second for Kudla. 1-1 in favor of BLR but then they gave a 3rd caution, Kudla won it 2-1 while he did absolutely NOTHING this guy Kudla is winning medals only this way. wrestlers like him and Nabi is the reason why wrestling (specially Greco-Roman) is not that interesting for the TV viewers. that's why I hate him. I understand there are matches nobody can score. and someone has to win. but why this is always Kudla who won these kind of matches ? and since Kudla almost never scores , most of his matches finish like this.
  16. I'm not sure about this one (I will check it later to give you an accurate answer) but that 5-1 to 5-5 call was terrible and unbelievable. I understand why your coaches didn't challenge that. Mohamed was still winning 5-5. this wasn't even a dubious call. pure BS let me tell you what the Iranian commentator said after the match Germany has Antonio Silvestri (UWW refereeing commission president) in UWW but Egypt got nobody.
  17. Stabler is one of my favorite wrestlers but that call was BS, from 5-1 to 5-5 !!! it was either a takedown or fleeing. you can't give 2+2 for one action ! the Egyptian guy got robbed here .
  18. It was well after the whistle. if you watch it carefully the center ref raised his hands and then blew the whistle. I can't believe how they still gave 2pts to the Kazakh. I saw so many different ways of cheating but this one was new to me ! Nabi somehow tasted his own medicine , if I'm not wrong he lost to Pino by a late caution. the 3rd caution is always a "dubious call" . but then he got lucky because Pino almost got pinned by the Kyrgyz wrestler. he just survived that to beat him later. and Monjazi was a bit smarter he could beat Pino, he just didn't expect Pino to run out of gas in last 2 minutes so he took an early risk and gave up points. I'm sure Monjazi-Nabi will be battle of cautions. unless Monjazi took some risks again. because Heiki won't do shit. interesting thing. both Lorincz brothers made it to the final in Kudla-style. 1-1 winning the semifinal only because of the last caution. I really hate wining or losing like this. this is pure luck.
  19. well no final for Iran in Greco-Roman. I'm not surprised Geraei was our only realistic chance for the gold but he lost to himself. at least the Swedish guy did him a favor and put him back for the repechage. I didn't expect Nejati and Monjazi to go this far but both of them had their chances in the semifinal .Nejati is very good in standing position, he almost had a takedown in the second period which could win the match for him. but then in par-terre he was terrible and Fumita finished it 9-1. Monjazi was also close to upset the Cuban. he just lost his balance on his own attack and then he had to attack so the Cuban scored few more. even though he was deadly tired. if it wasn't for that mistake, Monjazi could beat him later by a pushout or something.
  20. he is in his best shape today. I have to admit that. but still he needs lots of helps from the refs. that's the question only referees can answer btw I just finished watching the match, this is the new dimension of "cheating" that gut wrench clearly and obviously happened after the whistle. that was unbelievable.
  21. I hope so but I'm not really optimistic this is interesting for Lorincz. all of his main rivals are out. this is his gold medal to lose. I couldn't follow all QFs closely but it seems we had controversial calls on Nemes match. I guess that didn't surprise anybody.
  22. It was a great day but two disappointing defeats ruined it a bit. still happy with 2 quotas. 60kg was quite unexpected. I'm not in mood to talk about the refs. both Saravi and Geraei first have themselves to blame. Geraei lost focus after some funny calls and when you attack blindly you lose on counters. poor kid Saravi received a phantom caution at first, still turned the table 5-3 but then lost his balance on his own attack and gave up 4 more points. very upset about Geraei , he was our gold medal chance after destroying Kim in the first round. I don't think this Swedish guy can bring him back to the repechage.
  23. Huge upset indeed. but the Kazakh had a legit takedown in first period. I was watching 3 matches at the same time. I don't know who deserved the caution in the 2nd period but I'm not surprised they give it favor of the host wrestler we know Vlasov is fantastic in par-terre, one caution was enough for him to win the match but he has himself to blame for giving up that 2pts in the first period. that allowed the ref to give only one caution the entire match, which was against Vlasov.
  24. so far Olympic quotas for 87 Belarus 97 Poland 67 Serbia these are the "luckier" guys from the top half. repechage from the bottom half will take longer
  25. you know we are a unique country, even our trials are unique we never had a fixed rule about the trials . it changes year by year. mostly because our top wrestlers usually try to avoid the trials, they are afraid of losing. if you heard about Hamid Sourian, he is our most accomplished wrestler but he NEVER wrestled any kind of trials inside Iran ! this is unbelievable ! the only match he wrestled in Iran in his entire senior career was a league match which he lost by technical fall !! for few years our wrestling federation announced they will be very serious about the trials. still half of our top wrestlers didn't show up. of course they always make excuses, some last minute injury. some family emergency things like that. actually we got weaker in past few years mostly because the federation tried to stick to the rule. therefore we had weaker teams in past few years. also some people (including myself) believe some wrestlers are only good for local competitions. we have some wrestlers who dominated everybody in Iran but never won anything internationally. this year our federation was ruined because the previous president resigned, temporary presidents can't do anything. this year it was totally up to the coaches , the whole process is like we have a competition early in the season, that's open for everybody. they pick few guys from each weight, add them to the current national wrestlers, then test all of them in various tournaments, (Asian Championships, World Cup, other tournaments) they choose their team based on those results but then if they can't decide, we will have direct matches between the candidates. but in Greco our coach simply doesn't believe in the trials. he sent everybody (two in each weight) to a tournament in Georgia, whoever wins , also wins the spot in the team. but in freestyle we had direct trials in Iran in 5 Olympic weights. (all Olympic weights except 57kg) now we elected a new wrestling federation president but I assume he won't change a thing for the next year. I think we will follow the same pattern for the Olympics. to give you a better image, this is our trial final at 86kg freestyle in Tehran in packed 12000 stadium. with Olympic Champion Hassan Yazdani facing World U23 Champion Kamran Ghasempour Yazdani is our only gold medal chance here, but still he has to wrestle the trials (and didn't receive a direct place in the world team) because Ghasempour was also pretty good and deserved a chance.
