  1. Canada's trials start this weekend and go to the 23rd. Team will be announced after that I think.
  2. I love that you compiled this! It's certainly an interesting experiment to do it points wise - I'm sure if you did it by event it would look different, Cycling for example you have it at 9 points which would equal 3 medals, which I would say is too high. There are definitely places where we diverge. I do think you are giving Archery one point for the whole sport you need to include one point for Sailing. Men's diving as well I would give 1 point between the 10m Syncrho and 10m Individual. Judo - I think Klimkait both as the recent World Champion and as the number 1 seed needs to have at least 2 points in the system. I would also give Valois-Fortier 1 point despite not being seeded. Rowing is an interesting case, at the last World Championships we got one bronze and 2 4th place finishes, but the the team strategically chose crews to send to the last chance qualifier and performed well. I'm curious if they have something going on. Finally - I think this weekend we will see where are Swimmers are at, the relays are most definitely all in play (i'm not quite ready to call the medley 3 points). I'm assuming you missed the 200m Breaststroke.
  3. This seems like a pretty impressive result: https://www.cbc.ca/sports/olympics/summer/aquatics/water-polo/canada-water-polo-world-super-league-final-preview-1.6065521 Not sure if Russia sent their A team but they beat Canada when they met during the last World Championships.
  4. It seems like to me that in a few of the sports we are losing quotas the team is stronger this time round: Gymnastics, Judo, Triathlon, Beach Volleyball.
  5. It's very impressive that Canada was able to increase in almost every event. The only decrease that is a major disappointment is in Wrestling (and Equestrian). I really hope we can net even with Athletics.
  6. Am I wrong that I thought there was a Hammer Throw as part of the Harry Jerome Classic but happening in Kamloops yesterday? Does anyone know if Adam Keenan inched closer to the qualification spot? @intoronto
  7. I haven't been watching today but this is had been a whirlwind day for my emotions nonetheless.
  8. China wasn't listed for the women's 64Kg in the IWF document that posted on the previous page.
  9. If I'm understanding correctly it looks like China did not choose the 64kg class for women....which strikes me as odd but it definitely makes Maude Charron a contender for gold.
  10. Aren’t the teams set for this very late?
  11. Plus the Canadian athletes excel on hard court over grass/clay. They are certainly possibilities. It's certainly bizarre that our last tennis medal was the Gold in 2000.
  12. I feel like Andreescu will likely go unless she has some injury, no clue about Raonic. I really hope Canada can win a tennis medal this time round, its a strong team.
  13. And she’s very young in a sport where people normally peak older. That throw would have gotten a medal at the last World Championships and Olympics.
  14. My best guess is they are waiting to see what the total number of athletes for Canoe/Kayak and see if there's any extra room for an extenuating circumstance - but that seems unlikely....
  15. Welcome! It's certainly a bizarre scenario all around. LVL has been posting on social media that she is simply playing the waiting game now.
  16. Ruck does seem to perform when it counts so maybe she just thrives under pressure.
  17. Do you know if Swimming Canada intends on bringing B Standard folks for the men in events that don't correspond to the relay? Part of the reason there's more men than women is that Ruck/Pickrem have so many events. I have my eyes on MacNeil to qualify in either the 100m back or free - I'm not sure pre-selecting Ruck to that 100m Free spot was a smart move, so may not finish in the top 2 at the trials.
  18. She could have totally qualified with a solid performance at the last World Cup. Ugh - that's annoying.
  19. I'm not sure Portugal can earn multiple spots on the World Cup Ranking the qualification document says: "The highest ranked eligible athletes up to the 14th quota place will earn quota places for their NOCs (max. one per NOC)."
  20. Is Judo a sport where athletes qualify as individuals or per nation? Assuming they can't send someone else in Zupancic's place?
  21. There's some info in here that's interesting. She could still be named to the team in the 400m free if she's qualified in the 800m/1500m free. My guess is she's leaving her options open but really focussing on the relay spot for the 200m free. https://swimswam.com/canadian-trials-psych-sheets-oleksiak-drops-100-fly-no-mcintosh-in-400-free/
  22. Did Guica lose the continental quota? Or is that the one continental quota that Canada got? I definitely expected our Judo team to increase numbers from 2016 and not decrease. That being said I think this team is headed in the right direction.
  23. I also noticed that Oleksiak isn’t contending the 100m fly. Could she just be focussing on the freestyle races now?
  24. Did they not invite her or did she choose to not race that? I could see an argument why she would focus on the 200m free for relay and the 800m/1500m for her first Olympics.
