  1. Many have a sub 43.5 time in them, but Van Niekerk at his best is another 0.5 s faster which is a lot. Barshim: What am i missing? Is Barshim now representing Japan? Samba: We agree on him. Subkenkov: Maybe i dont remember correctly, but i think McLeod has never been as steady sub 13 as Shubenkov is this season. McLeod has only 2 times been faster than 13.00 in his career outside of Jamaica, this season alone Shubenkov has been sub 13 3 times already outside of Russia. For me even peak McLeod wouldnt be the favorite and i dont think McLeod will get back into his best shape (i think he split with his coach recently, but i am not sure).
  2. Both Campbell sisters have been at the top for very long, the same is true for someone like McKeon or Trickett and so on, i dont think you can just say australian swimmers dont stay at the top for very long and dont continue to improve as seniors. Germany has the same system as Italy, with the difference that maybe a hand full of athletes are "pros", for example Sarah Köhler is studying to become a lawyer currently. Probably Italy just spends more money on swimming.

  4. 1) Even if thats the case, then why exactly doesnt the same apply to Hungary? 2) You are citing statistics, but that would just tell you that a person from Italy is likely to peak later in his/her career than an athlete from Australia for example, but it says nothing about whether this also applies to two certain athletes. Do you know how for example Quadarella and Titmus live?
  5. Individual pursuit has always been my favorite event, i think this should be olympic.
  6. We are both partly right, he won the gold in the 400 IM for Ukraine at the 2011 junior european championships. Ukraine seems to lose a lot of talents, Solnaceva too, but she also seems to be stuck now.
  7. 5 seconds are not nothing, but apparently thats exactly the time that Quadarella improved by in one year, so why should a girl who is 3 years younger not be able to do it? By your logic Ledecky for example should have stopped improving years ago, i dont see a reason why Kesely should already be at her limit, considering that she just destroyed her PB, the same is true for Titmus who absolutely destroyed her PBs this year. I understand that you want to believe it, but for me there is just no actual proof that those girls are at their limit already and i think it would be very weird if all those 16/17 yo girls would already be at their limit while 20 year old Quadarella still has a lot of potential. All those girls have more raw speed than Quadarella, so probably 1500 would be her best chance for a medal.
  8. All those endurace events remind me of curling, watching them helps you fall asleep. They should cancel this event and instead introduce mixed team sprint/pursuit.
  9. You are only saying that because the Netherlands were completely hopeless ... This is a mixed relay, so its the best reflection of a nations strength in swimming, so the only logical conclusion is that Germany is currently the best european nation in swimming.
  10. Russian guy, i think he won the 400 IM at the junior european championships a couple of years ago (if i remember correctly).
  11. What makes you think that she could win medals in the future? Titmus is 2 years younger and faster and the same is true for the chinese girls, in addition to that Kesely is 3 years younger and only 5 s slower.
  12. Not really sailing related ... but: Has Ireland beaten any good team at the hockey world cup? In my opinion they got lucky with the draw/underperforming of big nations, dont see them coming anywhere near a medal in 2020. Edit: Also has nothing to do with the sailing world championships, but i recently looked up the results of the sailing youth world championships and if those results have any "value", then USA will be a sailing powerhouse in a couple of years, they won like half of the gold medals at the youth world championships.
  13. If Van Niekerk gets back to his Rio shape, noone can touch him, if he is barely able to run sub 44, many guys can beat him. Barshim: If he gets back to his 2018 shape after the inury break i dont see anyone who could beat him, especially since i dont see Lysenko competing at the 2020 olympics. Samba: Clear favorite for me, McMaster has run some good times at bigger meets, same is true for Warholm and they are constantly about 0.5 s slower than him. Benjamin has never done anything outside of Eugene, so i dont rate him this high currently. Toth: Diniz could beat him or maybe a japanese guy. Shubenkov: Seems untouchable this year, dont think anyone can beat him if he stays at that level, but of course thats rather unlikely and in addition to that we dont know whether he will be allowed to compete in Tokyo.
  14. Miller-Uibo: Not for me, Nasser is 3 or 4 years younger and only about 0.1 slower. Gao: Schwanitz already surpassed 20 m in her first year back and the american girls can do it too, Gao isnt a clear favorite. McLaughlin: She has never done anything at a major competition, i want to wait how she does at the world championships next year first.
  15. 100% against mixed relays in general (across all sports).
  16. Same is true for Grabosch. Both have insane raw speed but are absolutely hopeless when it comes to tactics, thats why the training with Vogel would have been so valuable for them. Vogel was never out of this world when it comes to raw speed, but she just knew how to trick the opponent. With Vogel gone Germany lost 2-3 safe gold medals, but of course thats not important as long as Vogel gets back on her feet.
  17. I am very surprised by the french vault scores, maybe France has the potential to make the team final in Tokyo?
  18. So in Italy your grades are decided by votes? Based on ... ?
  19. Yes, of course, i should have said that i was only talking about the events they competed in today. Romanchuk, Paltrinieri and Detti are the guys to beat in 800/1500 on the way to Tokyo, as a german fan i hope that Wellbrock can also enter the conversation and tomorrow i hope for an interesting final between Quadarella and Köhler. Today it looked as if Quadarella is miles ahead based on the time, but i think tomorrow it will be closer.
  20. What is a 10-star student? Both her and Quadarella have the potential to win medals at a global level in the future, although neither of them is close to being a favorite for a medal in 2020. Apart from Paltrinieri and Detti your best chances might be Miressi and Martinenghi.
  21. Dont think any of the medallists today would currently be able to win a medal at world level. Dont see any of them winning a medal in 2020, maybe except for Russia in mens 4 x 100 relay.
  22. I think GB, France, Italy, Switzerland and Russia can all go 3:56. I have to say that i am not happy at all with the first german rider, Leon Rohde gave up in both rounds after like 100 m (i am exaggerating a bit of course), this cant have been the plan.
