  1. What a performance by the german mens 4 x 100 m relay! Throwing away a safe silver medal ... Its sad for the athletes, but in the end they wouldnt have won the gold medal anyway + Reus and Jakubczyk already have a medal at european championships and Kranz/Domgola will win medals at european championships in the future.
  2. You could say that she has the world best for 13 year olds (6.11 m) and for 14 year olds (6.57 m). For 15 year olds the world best belongs to Heike Daute (Drechsler) with 6.64 m and all the other world U20 best also belong to her. 6.91 m for 16 year olds, 6.98 m for 17 year olds, 7.14 m for 18 year olds and 7.40 m for 19 year olds. Arneton has some work to do, but if she would break some of those records it would really send a signal considering the career Heike Drechsler had (Double olympic long jump champion).
  3. The same is true for Netherlands or Switzerland and there is more money in those countries + those countries are clearly better places to live + you get much better along with english there + you probably face people with a more welcoming nature. In the end this is a ridiculous discussion, we wouldnt lead it if Poland was the country competing with "foreign" athletes, then everything would be fine and we would be told that all of those athletes only compete for Poland because they love the country so much.
  4. Why would runners from ethiopia or morocco want to compete for Poland if they could compete for Germany/GB/France/Switzerland/Netherlands?
  5. 1) What does the way his brothers feel have to do with anything? 2) How do you know how his brothers feel? 3) You are saying that it was a joke and then you still say that his brothers feel polish, so obviously it wasnt a joke after all. 4) I would rather say this forum became a better place since you stopped posting so often, never commentining about sports but only trying to push through your "agenda".
  6. But was nowhere to be seen this year and saying that her best jump ever would have been enough for a certain place in one competition is pretty senseless. Of course i agree that she is a big talent. One of the biggest U18 talents in Europe, alongside N'keetia Seedo for example.
  7. You mean because of his last name? Like Baumgart is a german last name and therefore germany won a gold medal for Poland?
  8. The shot put competition does have nothing to do with the victory ceremony, so it makes no sense to even mention it here. The a capella national anthems were embarrassing indeed, but they already changed that. I am not surprised that polish athletes found a reason to criticize (given the political situation in Poland), but obviously they dont understand that athletics has to get closer to the actual people if it wants to keep their interest. The victory ceremony is bringing the athletes as close to the actual fans as never before and the huge majority of athletes was absolutely happy about this format for the victory ceremonies.
  9. Marathon is by far the worst discipline at european level, Mazuronak is by far the closest to being a world class athlete. On the mens side we have Farah and to some degree Moen. The times of Radcliffe and Mikitenko are long gone, but i am optimistic that Europe will win a marathon medal on the womens side in 2024, maybe even on the mens side if Ingebrigtsen decides to run marathon or if Wanders continues to improve.
  10. We will see about that, i am not sure if there has been ever such a dominant display at U18 level in Europe (until now). 2020 is unrealistic it seems, but 2024 seems reasonable, especially if the trend continues. On the mens side Germany is currently the 2nd best european nation when it comes to individual talent, the women seem to be behind that trend for some years, but i am optimistic that they will reach a good european level in the next 10 years or so.
  11. Then you clearly missed a lot, the athletes love it. For me the victory ceremonies here are the best i ever witnessed at a major competition.
  12. I am surprised to hear that i thought that Mazuronak was the clear favorite.
  13. So you can only name athletes from your own country? If so, then here is the list for Germany: -
  14. Germany is absolutely sensational in this age category, they could win a historic first title today. I think Germany, Spain, Latvia and Hungary are qualified for the U19 world cup next year, the 5th team will be decided today. Dont know if Germany ever qualified for a basketball world cup on the womens side before. If there will be a live stream next year i might very well watch womens basketball for the first time in my life then.
  15. Do you think that there might be a chance for Germany to qualify in womens basketball? Currently Germany is absolutely dominating at U18 level, but i guess those talents wont be ready to carry the senior team already. I think for 2024 Germany might have a realistic chance to qualify in womens basketball, but 2020 probably comes too early (i dont know how big the step from U18 level to senior level in womens basketball is though). I would love to see Germany qualify in rugby since thats my second favorite team sport at the olympics, but i am not sure whether there is actually a chance. I remember that Germany was not too far away from qualifying for Rio, would you say that the german chances are better this time?
  16. Very tricky conditions, but in the end the best athlete won. Ugen and Proctor are overrated, but they are still among the 4 best long jumpers in Europe together with Mihambo and Spanovic. In the qualification we also had no long jumps.
  17. Overall times in Berlin are suspiciously fast too, we know since 2009 how fast this track is. I think those times will remain lifetime bests for many of the girls.
  18. Before today i hoped for 21 german medal at the end (which now seems unlikely thanks to Linke not winning a medal), but i thought 18-20 medals would be realistic. Currently Germany is on track to have its best european championships since 1998 (23 medals), 19-20 medals are still possible. Sadly Holzdeppe and Heß didnt make the final and sadly Klein decided not to compete in the 1500 m, otherwise this could have become a legendary day for german athletics.
  19. Super disappointed by Christopher Linke, i expected gold or at least a medal and that was his goal too. Amazing performance by Przybylko. Mihambo was disappointed by her mark, but at least she won the gold. Silver and bronze in womens discus throw were expected, but the marks are really bad, no chance for Germany to win a medal in this event at the next olympics. In mens 5000 m expected gold for wonderboy, we should all be thankful that we can witness a legend like him from a very early age on, although of course there are major doubts about the whole family. Congrats to Poland, they look almost as dominant in track events as GB did in the past. Womens 400 m was much faster than expected, but all those girls are still miles away from being medal contenders at a global stage, at least the polish relay could win bronze in Tokyo. Kszczot doing what he does, he is dominanting this distance in Europe, but i think with Amos, Korir, Murphy and other young african runners his chances of medalling in Tokyo are still very slim, he just cant kick as hard when its not a 1:45 race but a sub 1:44 race. We have to remember that Europe hasnt won a medal in mens 800 m at the last 3 olympics, but before that Europe won gold 3 times in a row (2004 Borzakovskiy, 2000 Schumann and 1996 Rodal). Asher-Smith today with the most valuable performances of all, i am really starting to think that she could win 2 individual medals in Tokyo and maybe even a gold. Its hard for a german fan to look at the results and think about what Gina Lückenkemper or Lisa Mayer could have done today, but hopefully they will be fighting for medals against those girls in the future. Womens relay tomorrow should be interesting, GB the clear favorite. Netherlands and Germany about equal 2nd/3rd and then France and Switzerland both with a medal chance as well.
  20. You still think so, even after the horror german fans had to witness at the european championships (especially in track events on the mens side)?
  21. 2) On a european level its possible, but that doesnt mean much on world level. The italian girls might be talented, but its highly doubtful whether they will ever come close to the level of the american girls. 3) Sadly all of this would seem possible for me considering its Italy, but italian scientist arent good enough to do something like this. Italy hasnt won a nobel prize in a decade and only 2 in this century.
  22. A decent throw for gold? You realize that this was a championships record, meaning that noone threw farther at european championships ever, not even someone like Spotakova? This would have been enough for gold at the last olympics and the last two world championships. Of course Hussong didnt have to do more given that noone challenged her and the other were probably shocked by her opening throw, although in qualification it was already the same, so maybe the conditions also werent very good for javelin throw. On the mens side the level was also clearly worse than all season long with 85 m winning bronze.
  23. What else should they have done in your opinion? Just take the risk and let the ladies start despite having doubts on whether its safe? #YOLO
  24. I think it hasnt happened too often before that the gold medallist threw 6 m farther in womens javelin throw at a major competition than the rest of the field.
