  1. Looking forward to this, i hope that a lot of championship records will be broken. I am a bit sad though that some of the big names will be missing.
  2. What exactly do you mean by that? As far as i can tell those 2 teams haven't met in this tournament and before yesterday Thole/Wickler hadn't lost a set.
  3. Don't see the problem to be honest, we have other great sports now like breakdancing or climbing, let's just hope that race walking will follow soon.
  4. Caught for what? It is obvious that she is a more masculine version of Semenya, but IAAF thought that it is ok for someone like her to run the 400 m while Semenya shouldn't be allowed to run the 800 m.
  5. 45 medals should be the minimum, i hope for 50. - Archery: I would say 0-2 (women's team + women's individual) - Athletics: How do you get 7 medals as maximum? 2 x men's javelin, men's discus, men's high jump, men's 20 km race walking, men's decathlon, women's 1500 m, women's 5000 m, women's 100 m hurdles, women's 4 x 100 m relay, women's long jump, women's triple jump, women's shot put, women's discus throw, women's heptathlon, women's javelin throw - Boxing: How do you get 2 medals as maximum? Apetz, Wahner + at least 2 medal chances on the men's side - Equestrian: How do you get 6 as maximum? 2 x eventing, 3 x dressage, 2 x jumping - Fencing: How do you get 3 as maximum? Men's sabre, men's sabre team, women's foil - Golf: I would say 0-0 ... - Rowing: I would say 2-6 or 2-7 (men's quadruple sculls, women's quadruple sculls, men's eight, men's single sculls, men's lightweight double sculls, men's four, women's double sculls) - Shooting: I would say 1-5 or 1-6 (2 x men's rapid fire pistol, men's trap, women's 50 m 3 positions, 1-2 x women's 25 m pistol + mixed events ...) - Swimming: I would say 1-7 or 1-8 (men's 400 m, men's 800 m, men's 1500 m, men's 10 km open water, men's 200 IM, men's 200 breast, men's 100 fly, women's 200 fly + maybe women's 1500 free or women's 10 km open water) - Tennis: I would say 1-3 or 1-4 (Zverev (it is best of 3 after all), Kerber, mixed doubles, women's doubles (Kerber + Görges) + maybe men's doubles ...) - What about gymnastics? Women's uneven bars, women's balance beam ...
  6. Yeah, their relay is pretty good, but a medal would be a major surprise. Even if the US drops the baton as usual, Japan + GB are clearly better individually and Canada + Jamaica + China + Turkey + South Africa + France + Netherlands are all on at least the same level individually (in my opinion), so i think even making the final would be quite a success for Brazil.
  7. I didn't say that they have a shot at winning gold in 2020, but they have been world-class in the past and i believe that they could get there again. No other country has a better shot at winning gold in field hockey and ice hockey. I see no way that Canada, Sweden, Czech Republic or Russia (maybe they have a tiny chance on the women's side some day) will win gold in field hockey in our lifetime. I think we can also agree that Argentina, the Netherlands, Australia, Spain, Pakistan, India, Zimbabwe or New Zealand won't win ice hockey gold anytime soon ... I would say USA has the best chance ahead of Germany and Russia/Canada. Germany might have a shot to win hockey gold in 2022 if all the big nations compete without their NHL players and if for some reason Draisaitl, Grubauer, Kahun and Seider will play for Germany.
  8. Agree, completely ridiculous. As far as i know his PB wasn't even 21 m+ before Rio and then he suddenly improved by more than 1.5 m in 3 years in his mid 20s. I don't really see how brazilian athletics got crazy good? In 2016 they had Braz da Silva and Murer as medal contenders, now those 2 are gone and they only have Romani as medal contender (+ maybe a small outside chance in women's triple jump). 2015: 20.90 m at the age of 24 2016: 21.02 m at the age of 25 2017: 21.82 at the age of 26 2018: 22.00 at the age of 27 2019: 22.61 at the age of 28
  9. It's not like Klosterhalfen ran 8:29 already 2 years ago as a 20 year old ...
  10. Deserved win for Sweden. It was time for them to finally beat Germany. I hope this means that german television won't show women's football at the olympics and will instead focus on other sports.
  11. In women's K1 i didn't find Funk, Fox, Franklin or Jones on the results sheet. Didn't they participate? The same in men's C1: Didn't find Tasiadis, Anton, Burgess or Westley on the results sheet ... !?
  12. Great results for Germany here, qualifying shouldn't be a problem for Dogue and Schleu.
  13. Germany was close in 2018, only losing against Russia in last minute. I also believe that USA has the potential to win hockey gold on the women's side.
  14. Then it was really unexpected ... Still, where can we see the results and why don't you at least post the medallists here if you know the results? I guess Italy finally figured out how to translate their results on the womens side to the mens side. A lot of nations failed to do so in the past. Japan has been dominating on the mens side but is rather weak on the womens side, Romania has also historically been much weaker on the mens side and the same is true to some extent for the US.
  15. 1) Where did you find the results (on the official website it only says "Results coming soon")? 2) Why do you consider this result VERY surprising? I think everyone who follows gymnastics should have expected Italy to finish at least 4th. They had amazing results at european level recently (at least on the womens side) and have even overtaken GB + Japan isnt that strong on the womens side. I would have favored only the US, China and Russia over Italy without knowing anything about the actual teams. So do you know more about the actual teams or did you miss the development Italy has shown recently on the womens side?
  16. 1) Which swimmer could win 10 medals? 2) Maybe by this logic team sports are less interesting concerning the medal table, but there are people that prefer to watch sports based on personal interest and not based on how important a sport is for the medal table. Personally i prefer watching handball or basektaball instead of sprint canoeing, although Germany always wins tons of medals there. I also dont think that anyone would say that canoeing is more interesting than basektball, handball or volleyball.
  17. You realize that ... a) Swimming finals will be in the morning b) It is possible to watch multiple events at the same time/delayed c) Some european nations like Norway or Sweden are almost non-existant in swimming/athletics so they can focus on football?
  18. How exactly is this the fairest solution? Why should continents with far less countries and overall far less strength be guaranteed the same number of quotas as Europe? I think the fairest solution would clearly be to have a world-cup in the round-robin format where the top 12 teams qualify, but of course that will never happen. FIFA could create something like a continental coefficient where the results of the last 3 world cups for example count and which determines the number of quota places each continent gets.
  19. Ok, then Asia should get 2 spots so that always 2 out of Japan/China/Australia can qualify.
  20. Funny to hear something like that from an american ... considering that for the last couple of games the schedule was designed 100 % in favor of american spectators and athletes. I also don't understand how euro-centric is supposed to be bad in this context. The event should be euro-centric because Europe just is miles ahead of every other continent.
  21. Just finished Chernobyl yesterday and it is an amazing show in my opinion, although it makes no sense to compare it to Breaking Bad, The Wire or The Sopranos. In case you didn't know it: There is also a free podcast available on Youtube with a lot of background information (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rUeHPCYtWYQ) Also watched the first season or so of Stranger Things, but i am not a big fan.
  22. I dont think you can doubt every referee simply based on nationality, but if you argue like that, then even Steinhaus could be "suspicious": If USA wins, then olympic qualification will be easier for Germany ...
  23. Yeah ... that is why the draw was rigged ... someone thought that USA would be the easiest possible opponent for France in the quarterfinal ...
  24. 7 out of 8 teams in the quarterfinal are from Europe + Denmark isnt even here + Spain only lost against USA thanks to a late penalty, but somehow someone still thought that Europe only deserves 3 spots at the olympics ... complete insanity! Europe should have at least 6 spots: - Host (Japan) - Oceania (Australia) - 3 Americas (USA, Brazil, Canada) - Asia (China) - 6 Europe (France, Germany, Netherlands, Sweden, England, Italy/Norway/Denmark/Spain)
  25. The best european team might not qualify, very unfair. I think Norway vs. England, Sweden vs. Germany and Netherlands vs. Italy will/would all be very open matches. It is mpossible to say who will qualify.
