  1. 1) Why did that need to be proven? 2) I think others like Alia Atkinson, Malia Metella, Cullen Jones have already "proven" that before her.
  2. Manuel is a killer! I have no clue how she does it again and again, she has to be the most clutch female swimmer.
  3. I really like the south african national anthem, it always reminds me of one of the most emotional olympic moment for me, when Le Clos won gold in 2012.
  4. You are wrong, but based on your comment i don't think you are willing to admit that. His coach said that even after the first turn of his 800 free race he knew that it was over, because Wellbrock didn't use his usual technique and was too deep in the water. He obviously did much better in the 1500 free, but you can't completely turn it around in a couple of days. In the end i still believe that Paltrinieri needs to be much better than Wellbrock/Romanchuk, because they will beat him 9 out of 10 times when they still have contact after 1200 m or so. I am looking forward to hopefully another battle in 2020, especially because then the pool events will come before the open water event, so all should be at 100 %.
  5. Overall still a bit disappointing world championships for Germany. With a bit of luck Germany could have won 6 medals in olympic disciplines (Men's 800/1500 free, men's 200 IM, women's 200 fly and women's 800/1500 free) + gold and bronze in open water.
  6. Same is true for Wellbrock who already said a couple of months ago that it will take a world record to win gold in 2020. The difference is that Wellbrock is 3 years younger and won gold here despite being way off in the 800 free. Don't even want to imagine what he could have done in top shape. Paltrinieri will get killed by Wellbrock and Romanchuk every time (because they have a better finish), unless he can be in clearly better shape then them. If he can translate his improvements in the 800 free to the 1500 free, then the other 2 will be in a lot of trouble.
  7. I think Bernal is the 3rd youngest winner ever and the youngest since Francois Faber in 1909. I think this is also the first time ever that the whole podium (the top 4 actually) are within 2 minutes. Not sure who could challenge Bernal in the next couple of years? I think Buchmann will only get better, but i fear the same will be true for Bernal. Maybe Roglic or Dumoulin can challenge Bernal? From a german perspective i would like to see Kämna go to Bora and maybe take over from Buchmann as captain in a couple of years, i think he has great potential.
  8. I think that's what most swimmers say when they don't win gold. It will be hard enough for her to defend her medals next year, but i think she should drop the 200 breast. In both IM's she has a realistic chance to win minor medals.
  9. His chances for an olympic gold are definitely over. There was nothing he could have done in 2008 when he was at his best, because Phelps was just a bit better in 3 events. His best chance would have been the 100 fly at the 2012 olympics where it took only 51.21 to win gold.
  10. Please no 4 x 200 medley relay, would be even less exciting than the usual medley relay. Why not introduce a 4 x 400 m relay ...
  11. It's not like this is the first famous australian swimmer getting caught in the last couple of years. As far as i know Horton didn't say anything about them, but of course those cases are nowhere near as bad as Sun Yang's case.
  12. Wellbrock is still not at his best, i think Paltrinieri will break the world record and win by at least 10 seconds, Christiansen should win silver. Next year will be a completely different story though.
  13. There is only one thing he can do: Focus on the 200 fly and try to win bronze in 2020.
  14. Tell that to basically all wrestlers/judo fighters ... Frank Stäbler for example (3 time world champion) is still 8 kg too heavy.
  15. Just go to Youtube and search for a livestream, alternatively you can pay 24 $ for FINA TV.
  16. Could still be tied. Sjöstrom will win a medal in 50 fly while Hosszu will win a medal in 400 IM. Sjöstrom has also a shot in the 50 free.
  17. I think they will win one or two minor medals in men's 100 fly and men's 400 IM. Maybe Kesely can challenge for a medal in the 800 free. Before the start of this competition i expected them to win 3 golds (men's 200 fly, women's 200 IM, women's 400 IM), one silver/bronze (men's 100 fly) and two bronze (men's 200 fly, men's 400 IM), so until now they basically have 1 bronze less than expected (men's 200 fly), but 1 more gold than expected (women's 200 fly). Somehow Hungary always finds a way to not disappear. I thought they would drop off badly after 2020 when Hosszu/Cseh retire, but then Milak and Kesely came along and now they have a great future again.
  18. Reminds me of the relation between Yiddish and German ...
  19. Another sad day for german swimming. Hentke missed bronze by 0.26 seconds and Heintz missed bronze by 0.08 seconds. With Ledecky back i don't see Köhler winning a medal in the 800 free and Wellbrock probably won't even make the final in his current shape. For now i will remain hopeful for next year, Wellbrock should be a medal contender in 2-3 events and Köhler could also challenge for some medals, in addition to that Heintz, Selin and Hentke could also become medal contenders depending on how the next 12 months go. I am hoping for 4 medals in pool events and 1 or 2 open water medals, which would be 5/6 more medals than in 2016 and 4/5 more medals than in 2012.
  20. Especially because this might have been his only chance to own the world record, from tomorrow on Chupkov will own it.
  21. How is no medal in the 100 free final a big shock? I would say at least 90 % of people expected Dressel, Chalmers and Grinev to win the medals.
  22. I think the nerves got to them (i don't think either of them has even been medal favorite at a major competition) + i don't get why you would swim 2:05 in prelims when 2:10 gets you to the semifinal.
