  1. It launched last July, less than 2 weeks before what was supposed to be the original start of the Games. So yes, they were always going to push Peacock. And remember also they're shutting down NBCSN (their cable network), so that will probably push more programming to Peacock for the Winter Olympics next year
  2. That's exactly what's going to happen. The presentation on NBC will likely be heavily edited, so this allows that team to work solely towards that end and let the other crew focus on the live broadcast. As to your second question.. I read that NBC's staff will about half and half between Tokyo and Stamford (NBC studios in Connecticut). It normally probably would have been about 2/3 and 1/3, but some things were moved back to the states. Here is their full list of commentators. It notes who is or isn't in Tokyo.. RECORD 178 COMMENTATORS JOIN NBC OLYMPICS’ COVERAGE OF THE GAMES OF THE XXXII OLYMPIAD FROM TOKYO, JAPAN
  3. And it'll be separate commentary teams, not the usual suspects on NBC. So that will be a nice change of pace there to get 2 completely different broadcasts. Easier on those crews so they don't have to pull double duty
  4. A lot of people have the old school thinking that the Olympics is something that NBC is supposed to package to watch between 8pm and Midnight and that they're obligated to show the entire thing there. That's not how the world works in 2021. Everything is streamed live (yes, although it requires a cable subscription). Cable networks have hundreds of hours of live coverage. People may get upset that specific events aren't where they want them to be, but it's not as if there will be a lack of viewing options out there covering 24 hours a day throughout the games.
  5. Correct, but note there are some big ticket events on Peacock, notably gymnastics and track and field. And they are on the free version of Peacock rather than the premium service (with the exception of men's basketball, that's premium), so that's a big deal for them to be offering anything up for free rather than putting it behind a paywall
  6. NBC and some of their cable networks still have programming all throughout that Sunday, so they probably want to save TV coverage of the Closing Ceremony until that night. And the streaming option is still there for those who want to watch it live
  7. Looked like Cavendish was a lock to win. Then he wasn't. Then of course he won. Great job by his team there
  8. My thoughts exactly. Was worried this wouldn't come until after the weekend. They had a press release about that a few months ago. Yes, absolutely it's long past time to have that happen. Of course, who knows what the Ceremonies will look like without spectators in attendance
  9. I know this is meaningless to anyone not in the United States, but they just released their full TV schedule.. TOKYO OLYMPICS LISTINGS I put together a big spreadsheet of all the event listings. I'll share that here once I add all this info in.
  10. As an American.. LOL. I get things are different in Japan, but this reads like the kind of sleazy tactic some Americans were going with last year and probably got laughed out of the courtroom
  11. A lot of tennis players (and golfers) withdrew from Rio due to Zika. So I wouldn't necessarily go by them.
  12. The majority of our sports stadiums are open at full capacity. Many people in this country consider the pandemic to be over, so I imagine we would have been much more open to the idea (obviously it's a moot point considering where we were a year ago, so it's not like anyone could have predicted we'd be where we are right now)
  13. They said "in the coming days" as they have to consult with OBS and their broadcast partners in order to set the full schedule
  14. Yes, you can really blame this person for being stupid. If this incident didn't get caught on camera, would she get in trouble? Maybe not. But she did and deserves to be punished for it. Like @Grassmarketsaid, if they make an example of her, maybe the next stupid person won't be so stupid.
  15. International Gymnastics Federation releases draw for Tokyo Olympics
  16. Otherwise known as "double elimination." Very standard for baseball tournaments. Baseball is not a good sport to play single elimination. So yea, this is a really strange format they came up with (and is pretty much the same number of games as the softball tournament), but probably the best they could do to make a 6 team tournament work with only 1 venue
  17. Remind me again what continent Nagano is on If the NHL ever wants to make inroads into Asia, this is it. China, needless to say, is a slightly larger market than Korea, so that may make a difference. But they'll likely use whatever excuses they can think of to avoid making it happen
  18. Yea, as I look at it again, more an unfortunate matter of that last kink in the road and Ewan not anticipating how little room there was going to up against the barriers
  19. He's still down. I hope he's alright, but that was totally his fault from what it looks like
  20. Wow, how many big crashes can 1 stage have? And we're only on stage 3.
  21. It's based on straight world rankings, so group A has the #1, #4, and #5 ranked teams. Group B has #2, #3, and #6. SO by default, group B was likely to be the weaker group
  22. Was just going to ask when beach volleyball is coming. Definitely interested to see that one so I know when I'm going to be sleeping in late July
