    Canada remains first

    Finland, USA move up in World Ranking

     

    With its 2016 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship win Canada also defended first place in the 2016 IIHF Men’s World Ranking.

     

    Thanks to the gold-medal win Canada even extended its lead with 3495 points while Russia has 3380. Finland and the U.S. are third and fourth respectively now. Both moved up one spot at the expense of Sweden, which fell from third to fifth place after missing out on the semi-finals this year.

     

    The four following places remained the same with the Czech Republic (6th), Switzerland (7th), Slovakia (8th) and Belarus (9th). Germany, one of the hosts next year, moved up from 13th to 10th place after reaching the quarter-finals for the first time in five years followed by Norway, which remained in 11th place. Denmark also made a move forward after reaching the quarter-finals, from 15th to 13th place, while Latvia (12th), France (14th) and Slovenia (15th) dropped down. Kazakhstan, Austria, Italy, Hungary and Poland complete the top-20.

     

    Note: The groups for the 2017 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship are not determined yet and will be announced in the upcoming days following meetings with the stakeholders involved in the event that will take place 5 to 21 May 2017 in Cologne, Germany, and Paris, France.

     

    but at this moment the groups for 2017 IIHF WCh are:

    A- :RUS:FIN:CZE:SUI:GER:NOR ( :DEN ? ) :SLO in Cologne, Germany

    B- :CAN:USA:SWE:SVK:BLR ( :LAT  ?) :FRA:ITA in Paris, France

    The Groups are determined by this key

    A- 1, 4, 5, 8, 9, 12, 13, 16 of the annual IIHF ranking

    B- 2, 3, 6, 7, 10, 11, 14, 15 of the annual IIHF ranking

    Both Host countries must be agreed, and this year we have an exception with both co-hosted countries, they will meet in the next days to determine the groups. France already announced that they wish to Have Canada in Paris and Germany want Russia in Cologne, if it happen the groups will be like in this post.

    I really hope that the referees in the World Cup of Hockey KNOWS HOW TO MAKE CALLS :d
