Somewhat annoyingly there's some comments on some social media about how the Brazilian ranking favored those who are good in sprints (i.e. Bruna), over those who are good at distance races, and so the ranking 'was unfair'. Sigh. To be clear: the internal ranking consisted of three (3) classic sprints and also three (3) freestyle distance races within the qualifying period. Average of those 6 results decided. Not a weighted average or anything, simply an outright average.
In case more than one athlete reached the A criteria, there would be a ranking that does in fact favor a discipline - distance. That ranking would consist of 2 classic sprints, 2 freestyle distance races and 2 'wildcards' which would be any discipline. Considering the number of points in distance races is nearly always lower, that would favor whoever is better in distance races. And that makes sense, because with A criteria, one would actually do 3 distance races and 2 sprints. However, with no A criteria, one will do 2 sprints and 1 distance race at the Olympics. So even though the ranking that decided things now did not in fact favor sprints, it would not even be bad if it did, since there will be more sprints than distance races.
I guess it's disappointed talking for people who had hoped to see someone else qualify and don't really know how the qualifying system works in reality. That's fine, although I'd generally try to be more respectful.

Congratulations honestly I bet it’ll be so much better having your first Olympics be now vs. during COVID! I hope you really enjoy it.

First registrations are officially done, so now we really can say that @brunamoura's first races of the Olympic season will be in Muonio! Two weeks earlier than we had planned a few months ago, originally the idea was to start in Italy at the end of November, but the Italy/Germany/Austria route this year (at least pre-Christmas) just doesn't have the right races, surprisingly and unlike previous season. Scandinavia it is then, starting with Muonio next week

If anyone has information on where to watch that (I don't see it in YLE's program), that is obviously very welcome.

brunamoura reacted to heywoodu in Mountain Bike Cycling UCI World Championships 2025
Fun little fact: @brunamoura's bosses at her bike shop job here in the Netherlands are at the world championships as the first part of their vacation (they have been involved in Dutch mountainbiking for years, Anne Terpstra was in his team when she was young, for example). They sent Bruna a photo of Karen Olimpio, asking if she recognized her, which she absolutely did because they raced together a lot in their youth. That led to more and more contact and now Bruna's bosses are the most vocal supporters of the Brazilian team (especially Karen Olimpio and Luiza Cocuzzi) at these championships

brunamoura reacted to heywoodu in World Games 2025
Aw, first athlete I checked in the results system had a photo with a smile. Why is that allowed for the World Games, but not for the Olympic Games?
My dad took @brunamoura's official accreditation photo for (hopefully) Cortina 2026, but those rules clearly said smiling wasn't allowed

brunamoura reacted to heywoodu in Winter Olympic Games Milano Cortina 2026 Tickets, Trips and Experiences
Today was my time slot, so some more tickets bought...
Two for the biathlon women's sprint for @brunamoura's parents, so we'll be there with our full group of 8
Two for the biathlon women's mass start and two for the cross-country women's 50k mass start, both for @brunamoura and myself. If she suddenly qualifies to compete in the 50k, we'll see what to do with that spare ticket
