  1. Boxing does seem to have more losers complain of corruption than any other sport. With some fights it’s genuinely impossible for ‘normal’ viewers to separate the two The only Irish fighter I think was CLEARLY robbed was Michael Conlon against the Russian in Rio. Others have claimed to have been robbed but I wouldn’t agree the only British fighter I think who was given a fight they shouldn’t have was Joshua in London. He’s proven himself since but he lost that final in my opinion
  2. That weight category is not as competitive as some others. The Irish representative she beat was only second at our national championships but the winner was injured last March and couldn’t compete. All the British girls are medal contenders though
  3. I know Ireland may have profited here but it’s a shame to see an athlete miss out because of an admin error (if that is the case)
  4. with the last spot in both relays. Something definitely happened with that Greek medley time...
  5. I’m sure FINA will publish the lists soon so we’ll find out. It could be that the time was set at an event that wasn’t accredited correctly
  6. Not live score as such but under the video on Olympic channel they’re quick to update the scores after the fights
  7. Huge news for as swim Ireland confirm Ireland have been awarded places in BOTH 4x200m freestyle and 4x100m medley relays
  8. Lacruz made it. have their first olympic boxing quota
  9. Are the scores working on Ring A? I've Ring B on here so wasn't sure if the issue was just limited to that. Lucky win for McCormack but tight fight
  10. Losing in boxing is never a good idea! The 60kg field is pretty stacked so seeding will definitely play a part in who wins medals IMO
  11. Sorry. I forgot only 4 spots at middleweight
  12. Yes, Potkonen will take the rankings spot If Harrington loses today though, she will have a box off for one of the final spots
  13. There’s been a few like that in other divisions too But either way they’re down to the QF stage for the women’s middleweights and they’re all one win away from the Olympics (with them all getting a second chance too)
  14. Hamadouche v Harrington This will be worth watching. Hamadouche is a current professional world champion. Harrington is 2018 AIBA champion. At her peak Kellie was probably the second best boxer in the world but she was behind team mate Katie Taylor so took a while to come into the limelight and it would be a real shame if she didn’t reach the Olympics Hamadouche’s win yesterday was electrifying though. As good a fight as you’ll see
  15. I just had a look at her 2016 result! 1:03.13 Just behind the runner from Uzbekistan on time
  16. Yes. She’s the top ranked European and can’t be caught Dubois still needs to win another fight of course
  17. I'm watching live but won't all the time. Is there any live score or will we have to wait for the PDFs each day for results?
  18. Indeed. The outside coaching has turned them into medal contenders now.
  19. If you asked 3 years ago I’d have said it was a fantasy agreed though, it’s great to see
  20. No 2pm local time. Fights are live now
  21. Can't post but just search Olympic channel on youtube
  22. 1) Men's road race in cycling (love cycling and an Irish medalist here is my dream) Rowing (because Ireland can win multiple medals) and Handball (because I only watch the sport every 4 years) 2) None really. Always want under dogs to win. 3) Katie Taylor - the only non-tainted gold medalist for Ireland in my lifetime Paul O'Donovan - soon to change that... and a non Irish one Felix Savon - pure class as a heavyweight boxer with 3 gold in 92, 96, 2000. Would have won in 1988 too if Cuba didn't boycott
  23. Yeah, I saw that. He was by some distance the best "pro" in the field (at any weight)
  24. Looking through the revised draw sheets there are about 6/7 athletes who fought and won in 2020 and who haven't returned for 2021 Perhaps most interestingly the experienced professional Mateusz Masternak from hasn't returned so second seed Radoslav Pantaleev from receives his second bye (first was due to seeding) and may qualify for Olympics with only one win. He too is an experienced professional but won bronze at the 2019 AIBA World Championships
  25. This could be *VERY* complicated for Ireland (with the whole Northern Irish thing that’s too political to get into here) but aside from athletes with Irish parentage (or grandparents!) born in the US, GB or Australia there aren’t too many. Ben Fletcher in judo represented in Rio and has switched so he’s noteworthy of those Irish family connections Rowers Sanita Puspure from (she previously represented them at junior level) and Monika Dukarska from (she has only represented Ireland) have been resident for many years (and moved for economic, not sporting reasons) Again, avoiding those from Northern Ireland, marathon runner Sinead Diver was born and raised in Ireland and moved to quite late in her career. Dublin born Sailor Saskia Tidey represented Ireland in Rio and switched to for this Olympic cycle Oh I forgot the Gadirova twins that represent were born in to parents
