  1. Told you so! You are right though, even if someone wins this easily in the U18 age group there are no guarantees of any success. At this age it's most important to just steadily keep improving PBs, because everyone matures at a different rate and responds to intensified training differently. A second Dutch medal today: bronze in the javelin throw! Feel like we've been winning more medals in field events in these youth tournaments lately.
  2. Decent results for the Dutch so far. Gold in the 110m hurdles (m) and 3000m (m) and silver in the discus throw (m), only behind GB in the medal table. Some noteworthy medals for David Pronk with a PB in 110m hurdles and Yannick Rolvink with a national U18 record in the discus throw. But the real deal is Niels Laros, winner of the 3000m. I'm expecting another gold tomorrow when he runs the 1500m, he already took the 1500m championship record in the heats. He's an incredibly talented middle distance runner, way ahead of his age group. I first heard about him when he joined the elite squad in their annual South Africa training camp aged 17 last spring.
  3. - and - in the semi finals. Apparently a 17 years old Dutch girl is topscorer of the tournament so far, Lola Moolhuizen. Somehow our waterpolo team always finds new young talents that rise really quickly (and sometimes retire really quickly as well). True test for the team comes now versus more experienced opposition I guess.
  4. I think it will be a close game today. The Dutch are also a very young team with a few new faces that joined after Tokyo. And I feel like Greece and the Netherlands are usually around the same level in waterpolo, competing for those last few Olympic qualifying spots the past couple of Games.
  5. [hide] Men's Tournament Playoffs June 27th, 2022 8 Nations, the 4 winning Nations will qualify for the Quarterfinals Date & Time (GMT +2) Nation 1 T1 T2 Nation 2 June 27th 2022, h. 14:00 Montenegro 3 Japan June 27th 2022, h. 15:30 Georgia 5 Croatia June 27th 2022, h. 17:00 Italy 3 Australia June 27th 2022, h. 18:30 South Africa 4 United States [/hide]
  6. Probably too late for the Dutch Mike Schloesser who has dominated the compound class for the last few years. So I remain neutral about this
  7. European Championships U18 starting 4-8 July in Jerusalem. The Dutch team consists of 19 athletes in total. Four of them are 400m hurdlers. Wonder if that's some sort of early Bol effect already.
  8. I know I'm biased because we won a medal, but I really enjoyed that mixed medley. It's chaos, but in the end the finish was super close with the exception of the USA.
  9. Rome, Italy World Championships 2022 Women: 1. Duda/Ana Patricia 2. Brukovic/Brandie 3. Müller/Tillmann Men: 1. Mol/Sorum 2. Renato/Vitor Felipe 3. Andre/George I always had the feeling that Duda/Ana Patricia had the potential to win tournaments, but they just underperformed in the world tour in the beginning. And very surprising silver medalists.
  10. Bol takes another Diamond League win, but this time it's the Australian one in the men's 800m. Happy to see PB's by Klaver in the 400m (50.80) and Van Diepen in the 800m (1:44.14) Edit: apparently the 800m was originally won by Benjamin Robert but he was disqualified.
  11. That football qualification document is ridiculous. TBD... Also really wondering why there's 16 male teams and 12 female teams, when the women's Olympic tournament has far more pedigree in the sport.
  12. Early exit by Stam/Schoon. They peaked too early this season, when the other teams were only warming up. Four Brazilian teams left in the tournament on the mens side is also a pretty impressive statistic. Norwegians Mol/Sorum still looking like the tournament favorites though.

  15. European Championships U22 in Vlissingen: Women: 1. Alvarez/Moreno 2. Windeleff/Bisgaard 3. Khmil/Lazarenko Men: 1. Ahman/Nilsson 2. Fokerots/Rinkevics 3. Hammarberg/Grossig
  16. Last day of pools tomorrow. No major upsets so far really https://en.volleyballworld.com/beachvolleyball/competitions/beach-volleyball-world-championships-rome-2022/schedule/
  17. World cup in Leogang this weekend: Women: 1. Leona Lecomte 2. Jenny Rissveds 3. Laura Stigger Men: 1. Mathias Flückiger 2. Nino Schurter 3. Alan Hatherly Jenny Rissveds really is back at the top level this season with another podium finish! Looks like Pidcock wasn't there on the mens side.
  18. Lucas van Klaveren scores a huge PB in the NCAA championships: 8105 points. 4th place at the championships and the 12th Dutch decathlete ever over 8000 points. The decathlon was won by Ayden Owens-Delerme with 8457 points.
  19. Last I heard she had a mental dip after Tokyo and is now taking a slightly longer preparation before racing again.
  20. Had a great experience in Hengelo today at the FBK games! Highlights for me were both the 400m hurdles and for some reason the javelin.
  21. Jurmala, Latvia Elite tournament Women: 1. Pavan/Melissa 2. Barbara/Carol 3. Duda/Ana Patricia Men: 1. Nicolai/Cottafava 2. Cherif/Ahmed 3. Andre/George Two completely different podiums in the two weeks leading up to the world championships happening in two weeks. Next stop: Rome, Italy World Championships 10-19 June AND Vlissingen, Netherlands European U22 Championships 9-12 June
  22. Sydney McLaughlin ran a 51.90 400mH, 3rd all-time time. But apparently two hurdles were not in the right place so it might not be ratified (homologated??)
  23. 50.90 PB for Lieke Klaver in the 400m, even if that was only 4th place in the race. Doesn't change her place in the Dutch all-time list, as Lisanne de Witte (50.77) and Femke Bol (50.37) have both ran faster.
  24. And my personal favorite straight after: Monday - Fanny Blankers-Koen Games, Hengelo
  25. I'll be watching some live sports next weekend at the FBK Games (athletics)! Other than that I've been watching the Giro almost daily, watching various athletics meets, beach volleyball livescores, mountainbiking and football.
