  1. These 110m hurdles heats are bizarre to watch. Every heat is won by a guy hitting anywhere between 3 to 8 hurdles on the way to victory. They're just powering through the hurdles instead of jumping over them and beating the rest of the field on raw speed alone.
  2. Afternoon session is live: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yBRzrhYxw9A&ab_channel=WorldAthletics
  3. I believe there was about an eight week break between the US season and the world championship and Kimmann took that time period as a break from training to recharge as well. The Suisse have a great generation with Marquart and Claessens in this sport!
  4. Sarina Wiegman succesfully defends her title!
  5. I believe there is no discussion thread for the women's world tour. Results in the Tour de France Femmes: Yellow jersey: Annemiek van Vleuten Polkadot jersey: Demi Vollering Green jersey: Marianne Vos White jersey: Shirin van Anrooij Not too bad if I say so myself
  6. No medals for the Dutch is a disappointing result, even if I haven't checked which boats were present.
  7. These events are always a pleasure to watch. Barely any downtime because of the different age groups competing in a single event, and always fast paced close races. Another bronze medal for Merel Smulders (the younger sister) after three Dutch women qualified for the finals. On the mens side Kimmann was not in shape and there's a large gap in quality between him and the other Dutch men.
  8. Thanks for the coverage @hckošice! After this tournament I suddenly feel like it would be a good idea to travel to Slovakia...
  9. After winning 3 gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze in Judo, the Dutch team loses the second round of the mixed team tournament to Italy. Real shame. I fear that all our strongest judoka were in the lightest weight classes this time (which is the opposite in our senior team actually).
  10. Yeah Baauw has been one of the strongest riders in womens bmx for a few years now, but in Dutch media she's in the shadow of the Smulders sisters.
  11. Really enjoying the photos you place every day @hckošice! Another two bronze medals yesterday in Judo and in Gymnastics. That's now a medal in 3 of the 5 sports we participated in, not too bad.
  12. One of the favorites for a medal Judy Baauw injured herself in training and is out of the tournament.
  13. No impressive results by the Dutch cyclists so far. Top 10 finishes in the time trials and individual race, but no medals. However I believe our team is really young 14-15, probably competing against 17-18 year olds. That also partly answers your earlier question @Werloc. The level at these games wholly depends on the squads NOCs send. I believe the Dutch usually focus on younger athletes for the EYOF and apparently they chose not to send an athletics or handball squad even though we usually perform well in those sports.
  14. Difficult choice for the track cycling mens sprint between Hoy, Kenny and Lavreysen. The latter is super dominant at the moment, but the others have a greater legacy built up already.
  15. And they both won gold! Travel to Slovakia? A good idea for Dutch judokas
  16. I just watched the judo preliminaries on the side while working and I just happened to catch two Dutch athletes reaching the finals in -44 kg and -60 kg. Not bad! Shame we didn't send anyone in athletics or a handball team, their federations put their focus on other tournaments I guess.
  17. Terrible night for the Dutch with neither of the 4x400m relays qualifying, Hassan not medalling and the QF loss to a penalty at the football Euros.
  18. So many great champions in this poll. Especially the 10.000m for men was a tough choice between Zapotek, Nurmi, Gebrselassi and Bekele. I ended up going for Gebrselassi because his achievements are more recent and thus more known to me.
  19. Great efforts by Vetter in the shot put and javelin. Hopefully she can keep it close in the 800m, though Thiam should probably take enough time there.
  20. Our success in athletics is a very recent phenomenon, but I'm loving every moment of it! Schilder is still improving every tournament, I hope she keeps this up. Apparently she and the Canadian were friends too, they were hugging and chatting after the throws.
  21. Rare sight to see Hassan lose a final sprint, but I'm not too upset. Just happy she is running again after an extended break. Also interesting that the Belgian commentatoe says HasSAN while the Dutch always sat HASsan.
  22. What a terrible day to be busy at work, looks like I missed a spectacular tdf stage!
  23. Podiums in the Lenzerheide world cup: Women: 1. Loana Lecomte 2. Jenny Rissveds 3. Alessandra Keller Men: 1. Luca Braidot 2. Alan Hatherly 3. Mathias Fluckiger
  24. Gstaad, Suisse Elite tournament Women: 1. Duda/Ana Patricia 2. Barbara/Carol 3. Clancy/Mariafe Men: 1. Grimalt/Grimalt 2. Perusic/Schweiner 3. Varenhorst/Van de Velde Another impressive result by the Chilean cousins, they've stood out to me in the results for a while now. They might be medal contenders in 2024, which I doubt Chile has many. Meanwhile on the womens side Duda/Ana Patricia is finally living up to their potential.
  25. Do you mean the best thing for their athletic development or for their personal gain? I feel like a spot in the national training center in Papendal is still the best thing that can happen for Dutch talents. Many talents also combine living in the training center with university studies in nearby Nijmegen or Wageningen. Financially I guess a scholarship offers more though.
