Very disappointing match from Ecuador. Their worst performance at this WC.

Oh man, $54 for the finals... I mean, that's not that expensive, a ticket of a Hungarian international football match costs the same, and I will pay it, but will 30.000 Hungarians pay that kind of money per evening? I doubt it, Hungarians don't care that much about athletics.

First gold medal ever at the Taekwondo WCh. Too bad that this isn't an Olympic weight class, Omar will have to switch to 58kg again.
-

We haven't had a great result since 2012, it's been 10 years. We didn't have high expectations, finishing above Slovenia and Croatia is as low of a bar as you can get, especially considering that the latter only beat us in the entire tournament. This level of handball is unacceptable from a nation that has spent an enormous amount of money on this sport, probably more than any other nation did in the past decade. And yet here we are, the 11th place is the second worst result ever for us. With the exception of Klujber we don't have world class players and without those there's no way that we will ever be as strong as we were in the 2000s.
-
I have never seen so many negative reactions to our women's handball team in Hungary that I see now. For example, one of the former coaches (Mocsai) called the 11th place a disaster and one of the biggest names in Hungarian sport journalism declared it a complete failure of Hungarian handball and said that we aren't playing "modern handball" and the gap between us and the Northern countries will only grow in the future as no one is taking steps for reforms. It's good to see that the blind optimism is officially gone, respected experts are painting a bleak future for Hungarian handball if this continues.
-
I guess our group was stronger. Great day for the Northern countries.

Wow, Denmark won against Norway! Which means that if France wins against Norway in the semi, the winner of v will qualify for Paris2024. Either way, big chance for both Denmark and Montenegro to reach the final of a major international tournament. It would be Denmark's first final since Euro 2004! And it would be Montenegro's first final since Euro 2012.
-
Anyway, we officially have the Final 4 teams, we anticlimactically decided last spot by beating Slovenia. v v As it was expected after the preliminary round.
-
That stupid loss against Crotia... we could have been in the Top8 even with this weak team. Instead it's an 11th place behind and ... if this will cost us an OQT spot in the end, I will be very angry.

A magyar kézilabda talán legelkeserítőbb évén vagyunk túl. 15. hely hazai pályán a férfiaktól és most 12. hely a női válogatottól az olimpiai selejtezős Eb-n. Ha ez így fog folytatódni, akkor Rió után Párizsban se lesz magyar kézilabda válogatott az Olimpián.
-
Well, that's the end of that, deserved 12th place. We will live or die at next year's Worlds, the girls will have to improve a LOT to reach the Top8 there.
-
Obviously there are two nations that are very much underperforming on that ranking compared to where they usually are. was the leading nation for years before their ban, this is one of the Olympic sports where their ban heavily affects the rankings and the Olympic qualification. The other big underperformer is who were constantly in the Top8 before COVID. I am guessing that they will increase their points now that the Olympic qualification will soon start. The nation that improved the most is , they used Tokyo2020 to gain a lot of WR points and even after those Olympic points expired they didn't lose any ground. They pretty much took China's place as the second strongest Asian nation.

The combined team world ranking after the latest world cup events, which might be the best representation of which nations are the strongest at the moment. The colors in the sum column indicate the Top8, in the other columns it indicates the supposed Olympic qualification spots if they were handed out based on the current world rankings. I was thinking of doing a World Cup medal table because I never see that on the FIE site or anywhere else. I might do one later with a larger table, listing all the disciplines, but for now here's a really simplified version after 10 World Cup events out of the scheduled 76. 2-5-0 2-1-6 1-1-2 1-0-1 1-0-1 1-0-0 1-0-0 1-0-0 0-1-0 0-1-0 0-1-0 0-0-1 0-0-1 0-0-1 0-0-1 0-0-1

Well, I can't complain much, 4 out of our 5 teams went into the Top8. And hopefully 2 teams will make it to the Top4, our men's sabre team will have to defeat Iran for that.
-
Nice start to our season, first ever World Cup win for Andrásfi in men's epee. Koch was also in the Top8. Thankfully Siklósi isn't alone anymore with great results in the next generation of Hungarian male fencers. Our future looks bright in men's epee.
-
What's so strange about this is that this is very clearly your best chance to win since 2006, maybe even since 2002. If any nations should be hyped about this World Cup, it's and .

The cities in Hungary can barely put enough money together to have their annual Christmas markets and decorations on the streets. So you can probably guess that there won't be any kind of spectator zones for the World Cup. We might experience food shortages during Advent and a significant drop in the quality of life for the first time in many years, so this might be the worst possible time for a World Cup. This will be the World Cup known for "watching footballers play in a rich desert country while we freeze in our homes and have the most depressing Christmas ever".
