These repeat wins make me question if having 20k and 35k race walk events make sense. 20k and 35k just seems way too similar. They should return to 20k and 50k or have only 20k like at the Games.

I see that ES is now editing their own broadcast instead of just using the main feed. World Athletics really messed up the main broadcast by showing so little of the field events.

I will try to use this during the qualification at the Worlds to make sense of what's happening. "Q" means gained athlete quota. This is correct, except there's also the "doubling-up" stuff with this qualification system. Honestly, it's better to think about this in terms of athlete quotas per discipline than boat quotas, because the number of boats depend on how many athletes qualify from a nation. SF1 - SF2 - SF3 - and then one of We will likely have more than 7 European nations in the final, so qualifying for the final might not be enough for them. We got screwed really hard by this draw, Spain and Germany will take the top two spots in SF3 and we will have to fight against Czech Republic and France for our survival... -

Oh FUCK, we are in a really hard SF in men's K4. That's what we get for winning our heat... in the same SF, only 3 of these boats will qualify for the final. Men's K4 SFs SF1 - SF2 - SF3 - Good luck to everyone, this will be a bloodbath. -

Depends on how many continents are represented in the final. At least 4 continents have to represented in the 10 boat field, so technically only the Top7 boats are qualifiers for sure. We currently have two continents in the final, so the 9th boat in the final might not qualify to Paris if only Europe and Asia will be there. -

If the weather continues like this until Thursday, the 35k race walk will be very challenging. Edit: Nvm, that's very early in the morning, they should be fine.

5000 heats moved to the evening session on Wednesday because of the heat wave. The morning session will be shorter.

Time for us to experience one of the most confusing qualification systems in action once again. But I guess it will be less complicated now that they removed two K1 events from the program. Still, the reallocation procedure might get a bit messy. -

Oh boy, "everything" is happening this week at the same time. Athletics Worlds, Canoe Sprint Worlds, Modern Pentathlon Worlds, RG Worlds. And also team sport events. Very busy week for Olympic qualification. -
One random thought: maybe I am biased because I was there, but I think the logo of these Worlds is one of the best ever. It feels very memorable to me, by far the best we had for a big sport event in Hungary. It feels more timeless than the modern logos.

Heat wave in Hungary atm, currently 34 C in Budapest even at 18:00, thankfully the evening program will start late at 18:40. The heat wave will likely end on Friday.

Well, I am personally not complaining. We got our medal here. We have won 3 gold medals in fencing, 1 in sailing, 1 in swimming, 1 in water polo, 1 in taekwondo and at least one more should be coming up in canoe sprint this year at the Worlds if not more. We are overperforming before Paris in terms of gold medals and Milák isn't even competing. If we would repeat this with Milák also coming back, that would be a 10+ gold medal performance from Hungary in Paris. I hope we aren't setting up ourselves for a disappointment, this year has been "too good to be true" one year before Paris.

Btw, I am not joking, looking at Katzberg's throws again, his age, his body type, if he keeps improving he might be a generational talent. I am not sure where this came from, I feel like very little was said about him before the Worlds. We saw Fajdek coming during the 2010s, this is far more surprising. Looking at his results, nothing indicated that he will throw over 81 here.

One thing I forgot to say about yesterday that I truly feel like we might never win our first gold at the athletics worlds. Pars was destined to do it during his peak era and he won in London and at the Euros, but not at the Worlds, only silvers. Now Halász had a very clear chance, but it wasn't meant to be. Somehow this just continues to be the one World title in all of the major Olympic sports that we can't pull off. Now watch Halász win next year in Paris. But yeah, we might just see Katzberg win every world title from now on for a few years. It's very scary how good he already is at the age of 21. He might be the next Fajdek.
