The wind is killing them...

My fear of implementing a minimum age is that it wouldn't do much to stop this and would in fact allow it to be more hidden

I think the IOC meeting tomorrow will confirm the qualification process for the 2024 Summer Olympics so keep an eye out for them.

Heading for the home stretch and we still have medal opportunities. Men's ski halfpipe and women's mass start will be the events to watch. The 2-woman bobsled is currently in fourth and a medal is possible, but it will likely take a mistake in the top three to secure it. Additionally, the 4-men bobsled begins today which will be our final hope for a medal on the final day. As much as I would love to see our alpine team luck its way into a medal, the bracket draw is very unfavourable and we already didn't have much of a chance.

Damn, I thought maybe Canada could luck its way to a medal given that the best skiers sometimes don't compete, but very unlikely we beat Austria...

Better than setting a 4th place record

Final thoughts Well mission accomplished, we've hit my predicted 24 medal mark with two days to spare thanks to a four medal performance. The only downside was men's ski cross, but that event is always unpredictable. I'm glad Dubreuil won a medal, had a feeling he could sneak into the 1000m podium. Canada is also 4th in the two-woman bobsled though it'll be tough to move up a spot

Seeding isn't the be all and end all in ski cross, especially on the men's side. It's not uncommon to see someone with a mid-20s seed going to semis or even finals.

The media definitely shares some fault for turning a child abuse case into a "she's a dirty cheater" case. The entourage is obviously worse for not only abusing her by giving her a cocktail of drugs, but essentially making her still compete knowing full well the media would attack her all in the thirst for a medal.

Yeah, you can almost consider each rink/club to be its own thing with little mixing. Top players are starting to move around in an attempt to create super teams, but a lot of those moves are done at the rink/club level (as in "over a beer") instead of a national director trying to form teams.

While the schedule is relatively light overall, there's still a lot going on for Canada. Our best medal opportunities will be in freestyle skiing with decent chances in both the women's half pipe and men's ski cross. We also have the bronze medal match in men's curling and I'd keep an eye on men's 1000m speed skating where we have an outside chance. The first two runs of the 2-woman bobsled also begins.

Final thoughts Overall a good day for Canada, we won gold in women's ice hockey and a silver in women's ski cross. We also had a good qualification performance in the men's and women's ski half pipe. The only downside was our curling teams, with the women getting eliminated and the men losing in the semis.

Gotta give the United States their best chance

25-35 (so average of 30) was a bit high. It's one more than what we won in 2018, but going into this Olympics, our luge team was going to finish with no medals and our figure skating team was at best in contention for 2 medals. The only sport which was on an upswing was speed skating while snowboarding had a poor 2018 so they were likely to see an increase in medals won

Yeah, the tie breaker isn't in our favour, what a way to be eliminated winners is probably the most likely outcome too...

We are now 3/4 through the Olympics, we have so far won 18 medals which is six short of my prediction of 24, let's see how the six categories are doing. Freestyle Skiing - 2/5 Snowboarding - 6/5 Short Track - 4/4 Speed Skating - 3/4 Curling/Ice Hockey - 0/3 Others - 3/3 Short track and the other categories have now met my standards while snowboarding was nice enough to outdo my expectations and win an additional medal. Sadly the three remaining categories don't look so hot. Freestyle skiing still has half-pipe and ski cross which is good for us, but it does force our team to be near perfect in events where all it takes is a minor mistake to fail. Speed skating is pretty much down to women's mass start. Blondin has had a poor start to the games, but hopefully the team pursuit gold medal will help her get into the rhythm. Besides that the only other option would be if Dubreuil or Howe decide to have a great performance in their weaker event in the men's 1000m. While we will get a medal in women's ice hockey, the other two will be hard to secure. The men's ice hockey team was eliminated which only leaves our two curling teams. The men are in the semis and women can qualify if they defeat Denmark. The chances are there for both, but they could easily finish fourth with the way they have been performing. Should any of the above fail the only other events which could help us will be in bobsled. Overall of the 23 remaining events we have a medal chance in 11 of them (unless we pull off a ski jumping and luck into a mixed team alpine skiing medal) where we must win 6 medals just to meet expectations. A team figure skating medal may come in the future, but I feel the games will be long gone by then.

Final Thoughts We won our third gold, but getting eliminated in men's ice hockey is quite sad. Despite the loss, women's curling still has a chance to reach the semis, but winning a medal will be tough. Shout out to our men's cross-country team for finishing 5th in the team sprint, a very good result for them.

Damn it, even if we beat Denmark tomorrow I still have no faith in actually winning a medal...

Yes, if those two matches go that way then Canada will qualify to the semis.

With Great Britain and South Korea losing Canada could qualify with only one more win (depends on where Japan finishes) as they hold the head to head record over them and now the United States

That's 1 out of 3 for Canada, next up China

In terms of total medals, this will be Russia best performance as an independent nation outside of 2014 where they were the host nation. Like Canada, the issue is Russia has been having difficulty converting their medals into gold.

In the end China performed similarly to South Korea at the Olympics so I would say the disaster was avoided.
