  1. NBC keeps trying to make the Gu - Sildaru Olympic rivalry happen, and like gold - gold - silver vs. did not qualify - 4th - bronze just doesn't make it look like much of a contest.
  2. Given how dominant Gu is I guess going 2-3 is about as good as can be expected.
  3. I get that impression of Humphries too, but ridiculous stories about BCS keep coming out too. I don't think we can just dismiss all the criticisms Humphries had because she's has personality issues, because clearly she was not the only problem in that setup.
  4. Canada is basically the third or fourth best curling country at the moment (behind and debatably ) when you look at the results from PC 2018 until now at worlds and the Olympics. I’d argue at the very least that the selection process for the Olympics and for Worlds has to change.
  5. Some very unhappy Skeleton sliders in this thread. It appears that a lot of the Skeleton OTP money has gone into unspecified “legal fees” 🤔 Starting to think Humphries might have had the right idea.
  6. But apparently it's the people who want Eteri to be held accountable for how she treats literal children who think "Russians are robots".
  7. Easier to blame than to look inward. Everyone looked the other way for years as USA Gymnastics was abusing children. It took one of the most prolific (for lack of a better word) child sexual abuser of all times being unearthed for people to finally take a critical look at Béla and Mártha Károlyi. I see more or less the same patterns around Eteri Tutberidze and Sambo 70. People don't want to consider that she might be fostering an abusive environment because she produces winner after winner.
  8. If she wasn't under the age of 16 she wouldn't have been allowed to compete. Ask any other athlete that have been provisionally suspended then cleared how fair it was for Valieva to be allowed to compete here. Valieva is getting preferential treatment on account of her age, and that's kind of problematic given it's happening at the Olympics. Though what really angers me is that I feel I'm seeing the next abuse scandal involving children's well being being sacrificed at the altar of sports, and the reaction in some corners is simply to dismiss it entirely. There were already a lot of red flags around Sambo 70 before this whole doping situation.
  9. It's weird to blame the media and not the adults in her entourage who decide to give her banned drugs.
  10. The hate should be directed firmly at Eteri.
  11. This was already known, the IOC had said ahead of time that Valieva wouldn't be invited to the gala no matter the result.
  12. Alright, Miho Takagi can retire for real now :P Really deserved champion, really cool to see both Takagi sisters are now both individual and team gold medallists. Unfortunate Bowe still hasn't really had the Olympics she's capable of having.
  13. I honestly hope the wins bronze in men's curling, because the headline of "Canada fails to win any curling medal" would really, really force a reckoning in how the CCA handles the high performance side of the sport and it might lead to some real change.
  14. Canada basically doesn’t have a high performance program in curling at all. The expectation is basically that it will just sort itself out.
  15. Ya the point is it’s not arrogance to expect our teams to do well. It’s just the way the system is set up we have like 15 teams in the top 30 in the world, which is not helpful in events like the Olympics where you can only send one team.
  16. It was the right call, having to steal in an extra against Edin is… not a good situation.
  17. I am once again asking for everyone involved in high performance curling in Canada to be fired.
  18. Above a million registered players iirc.
  19. I don’t care if it’s the worse tie-breaker (it is). Domestic rules and conditions should match the international ones. We are at a disadvantage when domestic competitions use different rules.
  20. Curling Canada needs to implement this rule too. Canadian teams are always among the worst at it, and they need more practice in situations where the DCS matters. Frankly curling Canada also needs to set up the stones the same way the WCF does, too.
  21. For the second time in a row fails to make the playoffs in women’s curling. Fundamental change to how the sport is run in Canada has to happen ASAP. We just aren’t competitive in curling anymore (forget not being the best), and that’s not acceptable given we have more than 90% of all players in the world.
  22. Even Gushue winning gold wouldn’t salvage this mess in curling.
  23. I want literally everyone at Curling Canada to be fired.
  24. Japan coming back to that bunch is why is out. Someone will go through on DSC with a 2-1 tiebreak record, and Canada has the single worse DSC of the entire field.
