  1. Say what you will about Homan / Morris, but they are the only team that looked really capable of beating the Italians.
  2. beats in a shoot-out to win group B.
  3. Top 15 from the overall world cup, any medal winners and the remaining is based on results at the Olympics (using the same point distribution as in the world cup).
  4. Cross country sprint heat selection gives me some serious StarCraft nostalgia. In big leagues they usually got players to select their own groups (basically you had one seeded player per group, they each picked one player to be in their group, then these players picked one player, and so on until all groups were full). They always made a big show of it with trashtalking and whatnot. Some leagues had elaborate entrances for the players too. Kind of wild seeing a "real" sport come up with a similar group selection format.
  5. This should leave him in a pretty strong position to qualify for the mass start, I believe.
  6. Won't be a fourth place when the day is done. Strong result by him.
  7. Karl finally wins an Olympic gold medal, after giving it away to Jasey-Jay Anderson with a late mistake in 2010.
  8. 's only remaining medal chance of these Olympics is out (lets be honest they won't be allowed to win anything in short track :P )
  9. Didn’t the Dutch NOC almost not select her?
  10. Does the IOC really think this is a good look? Dear god.
  11. As it stands would have it's best ever winter Olympic result, beating the record they set two days ago :P
  12. Really disappointing to see Finland fall on it's face during this tournament, pre-pandemic it really seemed like they were catching up (and tbh they are the rightful winner of the 2019 worlds). and have a brutal arms race with each other, and it seems almost impossible for anyone else to keep up.
  13. The quality of the racing is definitively better at the world cup. Though I think an underrated issue is that the ice is also better at world cups. The venue being shared with figure skating makes the ice less than ideal.
  14. And a purely homegrown talent, too. Very impressive result.
  15. Rooting hard for Lee, with how things are going in short track this might be Korea's only gold medal chance xD
  16. I'm not sure what's more embarrassing: a skier beating all the snowboarders, or a snowboarder beating all the skiers.
  17. After looking back at the event sober mindedly my definitive take is that you can make a credible case that any of the three medallists deserved to win. But it was close enough that if there was any home cooking Su would have won, and it would probably have been less controversial than the result that actually happened.
  18. I think being consoled by the Thomas Bach, Olympic champion, Montreal 1976, Fencing is objectively worse than losing gold at the last minute.
  19. China lost a super close call in men's slopestyle that a lot of people think they got wrong (the BBC claims to have spoken to one of the judges who said they missed Parrot's leg grab and that had they spotted it he wouldn't have won). So I really don't think this applies to these park and pipe events. To my eye Gu deserves the win.
  20. Just think about the bronze in ski jumping. Also, Oldham performed well today. Just wasn't enough because the level of the podium finishers was insane.
  21. Great big air event. Gu deserves it on the day.
  22. The real hope is that it will convince the Alberta, BC, Ontario and federal governments to renovate the Calgary Olympic park jumps, renovate Big Thunder and create smaller training jumps in Whistler. Having places in Canada where you can even do the sport, both recreationally and later at an elite level, is even more important than funding the national team.
  23. I wouldn't sleep on Crawford in the Super G. He is stronger in Super G than in downhill, and his fourth place in downhill didn't really look like a fluke (he looked really good in both training runs).
  24. So, still reeling from this morning. To highlight the absurdity of the ski jumping medal - unless both short track relays medal and use their alternates in the heats or the men's hockey team medals, ski jumping will be the only sport where every Canadian at the games will have won a medal.
