Qualification Tracker

Test

  1. Women’s snowboard slopestyle in 2018 didn’t have qualifying. What would have been qualifying was used as a (farcical) final instead.
  2. The sleds definitively seem to be way, way better than any other sleds in the competition.
  3. Not to my knowledge, but I have a better grasp of Winter Olympic history than of Summer Olympic history.
  4. This would be the first cancelled winter Olympic event since 1928(!).
  5. They could and should have held it yesterday. Or even cancelled the contest and awarded medals based on qualification results (as shitty as that is). The conditions today were neither fair nor safe. Even though, somehow, the best athlete won (congrats to Nico Porteous btw, he fully deserves this).
  6. Freestyle skiing is now only the second sport where at least two countries from four different continents have won gold medals. Say what you will about the "flippy flippy" sports, they provide a level of diversity unmatched among skiing sports.
  7. Well they managed to get this ill advised, unfair and dangerous competition through without anyone dying. Congrats. Organizers fucked up, frankly at this point it would have been fairer to use qualifying scores to distribute the medals (even though I would have disliked that outcome in terms of who the medals would have gone to).
  8. No golds in freestyle skiing for the first time since 2002. There were four events then, thirteen now. Embarrassing.
  9. Well it's now official: for the first time since 2002, will not win any gold medals in freestyle skiing. When that last happened there were only four freestyle events. In Sochi and Pyeongchang Canada won four gold medals, when there were only ten events. In Beijing there are thirteen events and Canada won none. This is definitively a low, low point for the sport in Canada.
  10. Alternatively they could just award shared first place to all 15 teams.
  11. They really should have held this final yesterday.
  12. Blunk said in the kiss and cry that they should call off the contest. Back to back 1620s in these shitty conditions from Porteous is ridicukous.
  13. I genuinely don't get the impression China wanted to host these Olympics all that badly. There just happened to be an opportunity and they took it, but when Beijing bid for 2022 it felt more like laying the groundwork for a future bid than a real attempt at winning. Then all the cities, one by one, withdrew.
  14. After the under-performance in the 500m this medal by Laurent Dubreuil feel like, to quote Petra Majdič, a gold with little diamonds in it.
  15. I'm honestly not sure if there were bribes involved or if it was legitimate concerns that wouldn't be able to deliver the games, but it is absolutely clear that the IOC executives put a lot of pressure on the membership to select Beijing over Almaty. TBH given the current unrest in Kazakhstan I think they might have had a point.
  16. Kind of annoyed at that tbh. Sildaru owes the Estonian setup nothing, she's basically a one woman show. She under-performed at these Olympics, not sure if it's nerves, equipment or an injury. But really not representative of her career so far. Also, she unfortunately finished where she deserved to finish yesterday based on the performances.
  17. No, OAR, a completely different and unrelated NOC, is the defending champion. ROC is making it's debut in this sport :P (The whole Sochi systematic doping situation is depressing but I'm going to continue having fun w/ these WADA sanctions and all the ways in which they mess up Olympic trivia)
  18. Based on the posted point totals I'm pretty sure the outcome of the gold medal match also determined whether or won the prediction contest :P
  19. [hide] Knockout Round February 15th - February 20th, 2022 Bronze Medal Match Date & Time (GMT +8) Nation 1 T1 T2 Nation 2 February 19th 2022, h. 21:10 Sweden 1 Slovakia Gold Medal Match Date & Time (GMT +8) Nation 1 T1 T2 Nation 2 February 20th 2022, h. 12:10 Finland 1 ROC [/hide]
  20. Always thought that was a terrible way to determine the bracket in this event. That's a huge shame. legitimately was very much a medal contender in this event in 2018.
  21. Not the first time we thought that in the last year
  22. Congrats to the for winning their first ever Olympic medal in hockey! What a huge achievement for this long suffering hockey program! (Sorry for our friends from and , but almost every neutral is going to be rooting for and )
  23. Pretty big upsets in both semis. and are going to be pretty annoyed to be meeting each other in the bronze medal game.
  24. I'd say Dubreuil owes Verbij a beer, or ten.
  25. I mean, she's the best female ski slopestyle skier ever by a decent margin. It happened to her twice these Olympics, so I'm guessing she had some equipment issues. She didn't seem quite at her best in general tbh.
