Three nations winning their first Skeleton medal (and first sliding medal period in all cases) is pretty extraordinary given only six medals are handed out (and Germany won half of them :P ). Skeleton joins Alpine Skiing, freestyle skiing, short track speed skating and snowboarding as one of the few winter sport where four continents have won medals.

Neise came out of nowhere to win gold. If you made a list of the ten most likely people to win this contest she likely wouldn't be on it. Even accounting for those two medals Germany is ahead of where you'd expect them to be based on world cup performances. In luge, even though Germany was favoured to win all the races was at least a minor surprise that Germany managed to win all of them and Germany was just not the favourite in either skeleton event.

What an upset for Neise. Truly nothing can go wrong for the Germans on this track. This feels like those world championships that are held in Germany where the Germans are entirely unbeatable.

Not sure why I thought GIller and Poirier were a medal chance.
