  1. I dont know Hungary is "Eastern Europe" or not, but i think Hungarians only care about gymnastics when there is a Hungarian medal chance like last Olympics. Apart from Russia and ex-USSR, I think it's Romania where gymnastics is really more popular. But our American colleague has a point too: NBA (along with NHL) are the American major sports which are more followed internationally, so, obviously, much more ppl outside the USA know about or can recognize famous NBA players than, say, NFL or MLB players.
  2. Hungarian-Polish tower (together with Turkmenistan [?] it seems)
  3. The Rio 2016 app is up and running now with final content (instead of that about the olympic torch) For Android it required an update through Play Store for me (none was required on iOS)
  4. OK, I believe you (did not use free VPN in the past, just tried out this Hola as it was mentioned in this thread) in this case I'm not even waiting for the OG to begin, got the account with VPNUnlimited right now.
  5. But who needs that? BBC webcasts are viewable without restriction if you have a VPN (even the free Hola VPN that was mentioned in this topic) or there is the Canadian CBC at: http://olympics.cbc.ca/ it was accessible with VPN during the Sochi Olympics so I think it will be the same now. Both provide good quality English coverage. NBC in the past used to require not only an american IP address but also cable TV subsriber info. So you couldnt use it even with a VPN. Here is some more info about VPN access: https://thevpn.guru/watch-rio-2016-olympics-free-online-without-cable-live-stream-vpn-dns-proxy First I will try the free Hola VPN to see if it works during the Olympics before giving out money for a paid VPN account For the latter, https://www.vpnunlimitedapp.com/en/ might be a good choice. For Sochi I used www.ipvanish.com
  6. But one also has to consider that a gold medal at the Olympics is a much "bigger thing" for India or Indonesia than even for smaller European countries like Hungary (let alone US,UK, China, Germany, France, etc.). In my ctry it was considered a catastrophe that at Beijing we only won 3 golds. To put that in perspective this is exactly the half of the total gold medal haul of Indonesia from 1960 to 2012 (all of them in badminton). India has 9 gold medals to date from 1920 to 2012 (8 of them in field hockey)
  7. I tried Hola VPN (free), mentioned in this topic today, and can confirm it works with BBC iPlayer and rai.it. Dont know how fast or slow it will be when the OG are on...
  8. The previous posters are right, for example on Hungary's page it says 151 athletes qualified for the OG, while according to my recent information it is 158 or 159. For some nit-picking: the site says "Hungarians are strong at fencing and the canoe sprint". For the first, WERE or USED TO BE is the appropriate word
  9. I am from Hungary and on one of the sports websites here every commenter was laughing on that prediction.
  10. Dont worry. With a VPN account (about 7 or 8 euro for one month) everyone is able to watch the bbc internet streams (or any other freely accessible stream from public television websites). During the winter olympics of 2014 I mostly watched webcasts of Canadian public television as the Hungarian TV showed very little apart from the ice hockey tournament. But for now they have two 0-24 HD channels (M4 Sport and M5) to show the Olympics plus a not yet told number of webcasts. But I think I will still need that VPN for next month to watch the BBC or Canadian Public TV web-casts
