  1. China advanced because they fell. What a joke. China will win gold in the mens relay, even if they would have to disqualify all other teams.
  2. Ghiotto missed the birth of his daughter in Italy so he could skate the 10k during the World Cup in Stavanger, which was his only option to qualify for the 10k today in Beijing. Must have been tough for him. Great to see Davide win the bronze medal here.
  3. Van der Poel! Ghiotto also on the podium!
  4. Even if she can defend her title in front of her friends and family?! Congrats to Italy btw
  5. on top of the medal table for at least a few minutes
  6. Kongshaug in 4th is probably the biggest surprise
  7. The Americans are disappointing again. Dawson has an excuse as he only arrived in Beijing this morning, but skaters like Bowe and Mantia are underperforming. Not the first time this happens at the Olympics.
  8. Tomorrow we have the men's 1.500m starting two hours later than the other races so far. This will probably be one of the most competitive distances with about 8 realistic favorites for the medals and even more outsiders. My prediction: Thomas Krol Joey Mantia Ning Zhongyan Kim Min-Seok Kjeld Nuis Connor Howe Seitaro Ichinohe Allan Dahl Johansson Takuro Oda Peder Kongshaug Bart Swings Kristian Ulekleiv Daniil Aldoshkin Emery Lehman Sergey Trofimov Mathias Vosté Dmitry Morozov Cornelius Kersten Wang Haotian Casey Dawson Tyson Langelaar Alessio Trentini Marcel Bosker Lian Ziwen Park Seong-Hyeon Peter Michael Antoine Gélinas-Beaulieu Haralds Silovs Ruslan Zakharov
  9. Koreans are being robbed here. How surprising in China
  10. I agree! She’s the most successful speed skater in Olympic history. Well, Femke Kok, Jutta Leerdam, Thomas Krol, Merijn Scheperkamp are all making their Olympic debuts and are favorites/outsiders for medals. I think in either 2026 or 2030 we might see some Polish superstars as well, looking at the current juniors. Szymon Wojtakowski, Wiktoria Dabrowska and maybe Hanna Mazur can all win Olympic medals if they keep developing like this.
  11. After this season hahaha She’s 35 now, she was 19 when she won her first Olympic Gold.
  12. And a bronze medal for De Jong after such a disappointing 3.000m
  13. Wüst: 2006: 3.000m Gold 2010: 1.500m Gold 2014: 3.000m Gold 2018: 1.500m Gold 2022: 1.500m Gold The most successful Olympian in Dutch History.
  14. Wüst is now guaranteed of a medal. Her fifth medal on the women’s 1.500m. What a legend! She can win an individual gold medal at 5 consecutive Winter Olympic Games.
  15. Maybe two of them will finish 1st and 2nd and the third one will be advanced after a penalty by one of the non-Canadian skaters on the third.
  16. I really hope so! She’s in the first pair after the ice preparation, so the ice will still be softer. Plus she is skating before all the favorites, so she needs to set a time. I do I agree that maybe I should have put her higher as the conditions are tough and she has marathon experience.
  17. Draw for the women's 1.500m is out. After my wildly succesful prediction for the men's 5.000m, here's mine for tomorrow : Miho Takagi Brittany Bowe Ayano Sato Ragne Wiklund Ireen Wüst Elizaveta Golubeva Francesca Lollobrigida Nana Takagi Antoinette De Jong Nadezhda Morozova Han Mei Evgeniia Lalenkova Ivanie Blondin Nikola Zdráhalová Yin Qi Marijke Groenewoud Yekaterina Aydova Natalia Czerwonka Mia Kilburg Maddison Pearman Ahenaer Adake Elena Sokhryakova Ekaterina Sloeva Maryna Zuyeva Huang Yu-Ting Sofie Karoline Haugen Ellia Smeding Michelle Uhrig Sandrine Tas Magdalena Czyszczon
  18. So this was a big fail Nils Van Der Poel (=0) Patrick Roest (=0) Ted-Jan Bloemen (-6) Davide Ghiotto (-4) Jorrit Bergsma (=0) Sergey Trofimov (+2) Ruslan Zakharov (-7) Bart Swings (+1) Alexander Rumyantsev (+3) Hallgeir Engebråten (+7) Emery Lehman (-5) Patrick Beckert (+1) Michele Malfatti (-2) Ethan Cepuran (-3) Sven Kramer (+6) Seitaro Ichinohe (+4) Felix Rijhnen (+4) Livio Wenger (=0) Andrea Giovannini (-1) Viktor Hald Thorup (+1)
  19. Just for fun, a complete 'prediction' including times, including surprises : Nils Van Der Poel - 6:06.01 Patrick Roest - 6:10.12 Ted-Jan Bloemen - 6:11.26 Davide Ghiotto - 6:11.44 Jorrit Bergsma - 6:12.10 Sergey Trofimov - 6:12.81 Ruslan Zakharov - 6:13.03 Bart Swings - 6:13.53 Alexander Rumyantsev - 6:14.40 Hallgeir Engebråten - 6:14.54 Emery Lehman - 6:14.99 Patrick Beckert - 6:15.54 Michele Malfatti - 6:15.87 Ethan Cepuran - 6:15.91 Sven Kramer - 6:15.94 Seitaro Ichinohe - 6:16.70 Felix Rijhnen - 6:16.77 Livio Wenger - 6:16.82 Andrea Giovannini - 6:17.45 Viktor Hald Thorup - 6:24.54
  20. Hahaha, it will be his final 5k ever, so probably they won't talk about anyone else.
  21. Interesting draw for the men's 5.000m: Sven Kramer - Viktor Hald Thorup Emery Lehman - Felix Rijhnen Sergey Trofimov - Hallgeir Engebråten Livio Wenger - Ethan Cepuran Andrea Giovannini - Patrick Roest -- Ice preparation -- Jorrit Bergsma - Seitaro Ichinohe Patrick Beckert - Michele Malfatti Alexander Rumyantsev - Davide Ghiotto Ruslan Zakharov - Ted-Jan Bloemen Nils van der Poel - Bart Swings Strong first half and none of the top favorites skating against each other.
  22. out in the quarterfinals of the mixed relay!
