Wrestling Qualification to Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympic Games

Recommended Posts

however, some Italian media reported that at least for what concerns the individual sports, China will receive some special wild cards (in excess also of the total number of athletes set to take part in the Olympic Games, not to make any damage to the usual "free quota" Nations) if they won't be able to compete in some OQTs because of this fuck*n' virus...

IJF (Judo) is one of the International Federations pushing for this solution (just hold the tournaments without CHN and then just add the Chinese that right now are in line to qualify to the final list of qualified athletes, even if they drop out of it because of the current ban on their participation)...

How can you decide, who is in-line to qualify in wrestling when the ranking are pointless and you can very well lose your first match depending on the draw.

Give free quotas to China everywhere now... If this was a small country no one would blink and they would miss the OQT and Olympics just like that.

Personally I think IJF proposal might not work out, because it add some athletes to this sport, other sports association and Tokyo would be against it. If the uncertain water polo issue not included, China hasn't been banned from any qualifiers yet( just withdraw some tournaments) . Most Chinese athletes keep training overseas right now to meet the quarantine time requirement. Chinese athletes don't want free quotas but fair competition environment without prejudice.

If this was a small country, there would be no such a problem with the outbreak ;)

obviously that part would work only with those disciplines that have a qualification system based on ranking...

the other sports must find their way to fix the question or just add a few free quota...

however, it's all based on speculations of some Italian media...there's nothing official about that (even if I also think that IOC and most IFs already have a plan B ready or at least they are developing it)...

it's not a IJF proposal for themselves only...it's a general idea that could work for all those sports with Olympic Qualification based on multi-year ranking...

however, I hope that there will be no need for that and everything (I mean, everything about the virus and public health, of course) gets fixed in time...

There’d be a bigger problem because they wouldn’t have the resources to fight it...

Still it would be much easier to isolate them.

Like i've said before, only Chinese athletes, who were abroad and not gone back after the outbreak should be left competing, until a clear cure has been found.

You can't possibly think it's a good idea to have athletes coming from main China, no matter how much they say, they are ok, competing in worldwide tournaments, in close contact with athletes from everywhere. Jeopardize everyone, because of the "fairness" of some sports competition, even if it's the Olympics is stupidity. All the nations refusing to host events have every right.

Yes, it would. It could also take a bit longer to find, and most likely destroy the nation spiritually, economically, and sports-wise for the next decade or two.

    • This came out on the official website yesterday. Updated list of events and competition schedules in Japanese.   Padel and Teqball are on the schedules. Looks like two events for Padel and five for Teqball.   https://www.aichi-nagoya2026.org/files/common/260427競技スケジュール/01_日本語/01_アジア/第20回アジア競技大会競技プログラム.pdf   https://www.aichi-nagoya2026.org/files/common/260427競技スケジュール/01_日本語/01_アジア/第20回アジア競技大会デイリースケジュール.pdf   https://www.aichi-nagoya2026.org/files/common/260427競技スケジュール/01_日本語/01_アジア/第20回アジア競技大会セッションスケジュール.pdf   On the sports programme PDF, Padel is #25 and Teqball is #38.
    • looks like the agreement is the international federations are in fact hosting the event, not the AG organizers, so everything is up to them to make it happen.   Teqball is now confirmed to have 5 events (singles and doubles) does it mean easy 5 gold medals for Thailand ?   Padel is not 100% confirmed yet. I assume there are still talks ongoing between the IF and the Japanese organizers.
    • I feel like this year's Eurovision is more wide open than ever 😂   There isn't a clear favorite, and that makes everything more exciting. Finland is looking strong, sure, but Ukraine always knows how to surprise people and connect with them. I was checking out the odds a bit, and I was struck by how quickly they're rising.   By the way, I found a site that compares the odds pretty clearly: https://casasdeapuestaseurovision.com/   It’s nothing special, but it gives you an idea of how things are shaping up before the semifinals. Although we all know how this goes… at Eurovision, everything can change in a matter of minutes
