Sailing Qualification to Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympic Games

I have read somewhere, maybe even on the world sailing website, that Finn world qualification won't occur in Gold Cup 2019 in Melbourne but in European Championships in Marsala ( :ITA ). I think it is technically possible as European Championships are usually open to participation to all athletes, although only European sailors can win the title, but still it sound weird

Here it is the link, don't know how much reliable the source is

While I look for the page I read the news above, here is a link stating that 2020 World Cup in Genoa ( :ITA, the same city were the bridge tragically crashed), will be the European Qualifying regatta. I think it is somehow a good news for the city in this dark period.

It seems that your link is the copy of a news from ISAF website: http://www.sailing.org/news/87590.php#.W9eWj3Z76Cg

And to add what is missing in this one: 470 World Champs in Enoshima will be 2-9 August, Finn European Champs in Marsala will be 9-19 May. I haven't found the mentioned continental regatta calendar which was supposed to be published by 1 September.

To this link, it is stated that PanAm games will serve as qualifiers not only for Laser events, but also for some other "as Continental Country Qualifier". Does this mean that the best North AND the best South American nation will have a spot or are they are all panamerican, according to you?

It is always difficult to understand how to consider Americas...

Edit: I should have read better the article :wall: I think the best from North and the best from South qualify

For laser it's north and south, for the rest it's just one I believe.

Netherlands still has to qualify for the Women's 470. After Afrodite Zegers broke up with Anneloes van Veen, suddenly Lobke Berkhout (38) planned a comeback. She is a 5 time World Champion and winner of two Olympic medals (silver and bronze) in the 470. Berkhout wants to qualify for Tokyo together with Zegers. Today they sailed their first races together; an eight and tenth place in Miami - very promising!

The Finn European Championship will double as the 2019 World Olympic Qualifier with four quotas going to the highest ranked nations not yet qualified. If Australia wins a spot, it is likely that the Oceania quota will be reallocated back to the fifth ranked nation (unless someone wants a free trip to the Olympics). I imagine Bermuda will be cheering for the United States to finish in the top 4 so that winning a quota will be much easier.

    • It's close between Mexico and Venezuela. Mexico probably has the better pitching but I think Venezuela is far superior when it comes to star power. They have pretty much all their top guys on offense besides Altuve.   I did accidentally forget Cuba. Call me crazy but I'm placing them 7th behind Panama. Panama is my dark horse team for the tournament and Cuba isn't looking too pretty these days to be honest especially on offense although Canada, Panama and Cuba are all probably roughly in the same tier. Maybe Puerto Rico as well since they're missing their 3 best players on offense.

    • The Italian team has already achieved a better result than the Chinese team in 2022 at home. The Italian team has made enormous progress since 2023, when we were still losing to Korea and Poland. Of course, this is mainly due to naturalizations, but China did the same. It's one of the few sports that have made significant progress before these Olympics and this is how it should be in most disciplines at home games.
