Cross-Country Skiing 2021 - 2022 Discussion Thread

Whole lot of things to mention from the past few days of races in São Carlos, with all kinds of stuff going on in the fight for the Chilean men's ticket for the Olympics (not sure if the DNF's and DNS's have something to do with it, but even without that it's being very close left and right), among other things.

Bruna might have set a big step towards getting one of the two Brazilian women's tickets with this absolutely fantastic bit of qualifying yesterday. For some perspective: on the slow rollerskis they were using and the wet (!) road, anything in the low four minutes would have been very good. Her time would have been 8th out of 17 in the men's qualifying, she was faster (!) than 2018 Olympian Victor Santos - who is barely even one of the top-5 Brazilians anymore nowadays, but still!

Plus today there was this result in the 5k freestyle, where Ceci Dominguez's result might have helped her to the Argentinian women's Olympic ticket by literally no more than half a second or so. As in, half a second more behind Bruna (winner) than she was now and she would have been the second Argentinian in the FIS points list, which is presumably the main criterium for Argentina in terms of choosing their Olympian.

No confirmations or anything yet, but all of these tickets are very hard-fought and the fights are far from over (although possibly the Argentinian one might be, considering they're highly unlikely to improve their points on snow)!

Very nice, 8-minute report/interview with and about our very own Totallympian on a big Brazilian channel :cheer:

It is in Portuguese, of course. Still, it also shows some things for which one doesn't really need the language skills. And if she makes it to the Olympics, together with Karen Chanloung of Thailand she'll probably be one of only two female cross-country skiers who prepared for the season exclusively on rollerskis, bikes and other non-snow things :p (since the athletes from Chile and Argentina have snow available during their winter)

Women's race also had three not following the marked course. Makes you wonder whether the course was actually marked well.

Those Swedish sprint races this morning are free to air, like the biathlon last week.

I'll gladly welcome them with a nice cup of hot chocolate, nothing to hide here since it's paracetamol only for basically everything :d

    • It's close between Mexico and Venezuela. Mexico probably has the better pitching but I think Venezuela is far superior when it comes to star power. They have pretty much all their top guys on offense besides Altuve.   I did accidentally forget Cuba. Call me crazy but I'm placing them 7th behind Panama. Panama is my dark horse team for the tournament and Cuba isn't looking too pretty these days to be honest especially on offense although Canada, Panama and Cuba are all probably roughly in the same tier. Maybe Puerto Rico as well since they're missing their 3 best players on offense.
