You can bet that Asadauskaitė will attack that 54 second margin to first place :p

Nearly had a heart attack when I saw her in fifth on the final lap.

:POL Maliszewska in 3rd - our first podium since Świderski/Kobecka gold in mixed in... Sofia 2019.

Well, Laura still needs more time to get into form, because on her peak, she could definitely take back those couple of seconds.

5th place after a year and a half hiatus is good enough for me.

And since Venčkauskaitė picked up a 3rd place in World Cup 1, it could be an interesting battle going on in the Olympics if the fencing works out.

There's always live results on the official UIPM website, there's a direct link in the very first message of this thread. Permykina is 21st after riding.

Now there are no results after Fencing in https://www.uipmworld.org/event/uipm-2021-pentathlon-world-cup-i

Go to the home page and scroll down, there are live results there with both fencing and swimming.

Dispair performance by Mexican pentathletes.

For starters, Carrillo and Sandoval had subpar racing; it's like this pair will never grow and learn to handle pressure and give it all... shame. Still Carrillo will get some points in the Olympic rankings, but they won't be enough to secure qualification, so he'll have to do better next week.

Padilla on the other hand did a respectable job and had his best competition in a while, finishing 13th. Maybe with some work he can repeat his WC podium from 2019 and aim for a second spot in Tokyo.

Amazing 3rd place for Maliszewska, now she is closer to take spot from ranking to Olympics :cheer:

What about the Olympic rankings? Does it only include the top 3 results in the qualifying period?

Yeah, the 3 highest. Which is why the ranking can change a lot with the last two events (World Cup finals and World Championships), because those are the two "level 1" events in the Olympic qualification.

And World Championship is direct qualification event

    • Does the CAS have the authority to address from someone who believes the judges made a mistake in a given discipline? Pizzolato's last attempt at Paris 2024, which earned him the bronze medal, was controversial, but what does the CAS have to do with it? Even if the judges made a mistake then, the result won't change and this isn't the only case where someone feels wronged with this in world of sports. Unless, of course, they have some evidence of corruption or something like that
    • If Pizzolato will to return, would it be to the 86 kg category, or the 94 kg category, like Nasar? In 2024, they were both in the 89 kg category, which will no longer be at the Olympics, but in 2021 in Tokyo, Pizzolato won a medal in the 81 kg category.   Of course, it's unclear what's going on with the rape accusations- personally, unfortunately, I don't think he was ever a sweet angel- he was accused of other immoral things also 10 years ago, but gang rape? I find that hard to believe... Besides, Moldova has appealed about his bronze medal from Paris 2024 to the CAS- the verdict was supposed to be in February. Do you know anything about this? Did they have any grounds for this lawsuit at all?
    • Ukraine won 6 gold medals out of 10 in the women's competotion  + 1 silver and 1 bronze. Where do they get these girls from? It's always been a strong country, but they have never dominated like this. I wonder if their training methods would work in another country and if their coaches have any offerts to job from other countries? However, there is a significant decline in women's judo in Ukraine, so maybe they have directed all their resources and money towards wrestling?   In fact, Ukraine dominates Europe as much as Japan does the world- they have the best school in women's wrestling. In 2024, Ukraine only won 1 silver medal at the Paris Olympics? So even domination in Europe doesn't guarantee even 1 gold medal at the Olympics. Although, of course, if Italy for example, can't even win 1 bronze medal at the European Championships, then there's no point in even going to the World Championships...
    • Sablikova started on the road cycling and just almost qualified for Rio 2016. Maybe Lollobrigida would like to join the Italian track team? She has the good character and 2 medals at the Olympics, one in winter and one in summer, would be a legendary achievement, not only in Italy.   https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Martina_Sáblíková
    • One Wiebes is worth more than the all Italian team with Balsamo/Fidanza, etc., that much clear. Even if the Netherlands loses its dominance in the men's sprint, Wiebes will win 2-3 gold medals in other events. Just relax, man.
    • I'm most worried about our women's team in the pursuit – we have a reserve squad, but not advancing to the top 8 is a shame. We recently competed with out 1 team and had not good in 1 round. It doesn't look good. And the Netherlands are already taking Wiebes to the track team and will soon dominate the Madison/Omnium as well. Balsamo and Paternoster haven't made any progress for years and the our women's team at the Olympics has little chance to win a medal. Italy might even win World Championship/European Championship gold in the years after the Olympics, etc., but when the real fight comes, the UK or the USA will always beat us
    • Track cycling is one of the few sports where there is no host nation quota, so  will need to work hard to achieve our quotas.  It's not our best sport, but was happy to see Top 10 results in the Elimination Race for Grant Koontz and Emma Jimenez Palos (who is just 18!).
    • Yes, I saw the same thing you did @clemsonbeav (on both accounts) but I agree it looks pretty stock.
