Serbia declined all quotas. :surprise:

What the hell :yikes:

I know there was a thing with the athletes needing to get under 70 FIS points, but I am not sure if that was as average (which at least some had) or in a single classic race or something (which neither of the women did). One man had the latter, but not sure if maybe they had different rules or something...

Everyone whose federation declines a quota should think about getting :POL citizenship. We always send anyone who qualifies

And honestly, rightfully so. Go Poland.

We do it because government funding is reliant on having any presence in these events. To get individual scholarship an athlete has to finish Top 8 in continental champs but it's all about money for the federations so these. Hence we send as many athletes as possible - sometimes even when they don't qualify on merit as evident by the swimming fiasco in Tokyo when five athletes only found out in Japan they can't start. We'll explore every loophole for a wild card entry if possible too :p

Provisional reallocations for the women: :SUI:SLO:FRA:POL:AUT:CAN:UKR:CHN:LAT:JPN.

We know :AUT is not interested, so :EST can already expect theirs. Meanwhile, I can see :SUI:SLO being content with 6 skiers each, if so, :KAZ:SVK move in @hckošice. :FRA is kind of iffy too, but they have only four skier now. Maybe :CAN will bow out too? This would potentially open things for :BLR and/or :KOR.

Looks like :BRA will miss out on the third spot by one or two places in the final analysis. @heywoodu

Canada won't bow out. They named two alternates as well and will take them if given a quota

I do wonder if this opens the things back up for Bendika's 30km hopes.

After all that drama lol..

Let's wait and see... I suspect Latvia may aim for quantity, even at cost of getting their quality athletes angry.

    • Does the CAS have the authority to address from someone who believes the judges made a mistake in a given discipline? Pizzolato's last attempt at Paris 2024, which earned him the bronze medal, was controversial, but what does the CAS have to do with it? Even if the judges made a mistake then, the result won't change and this isn't the only case where someone feels wronged with this in world of sports. Unless, of course, they have some evidence of corruption or something like that
    • If Pizzolato will to return, would it be to the 86 kg category, or the 94 kg category, like Nasar? In 2024, they were both in the 89 kg category, which will no longer be at the Olympics, but in 2021 in Tokyo, Pizzolato won a medal in the 81 kg category.   Of course, it's unclear what's going on with the rape accusations- personally, unfortunately, I don't think he was ever a sweet angel- he was accused of other immoral things also 10 years ago, but gang rape? I find that hard to believe... Besides, Moldova has appealed about his bronze medal from Paris 2024 to the CAS- the verdict was supposed to be in February. Do you know anything about this? Did they have any grounds for this lawsuit at all?
    • Ukraine won 6 gold medals out of 10 in the women's competotion  + 1 silver and 1 bronze. Where do they get these girls from? It's always been a strong country, but they have never dominated like this. I wonder if their training methods would work in another country and if their coaches have any offerts to job from other countries? However, there is a significant decline in women's judo in Ukraine, so maybe they have directed all their resources and money towards wrestling?   In fact, Ukraine dominates Europe as much as Japan does the world- they have the best school in women's wrestling.
    • Sablikova started on the road cycling and just almost qualified for Rio 2016. Maybe Lollobrigida would like to join the Italian track team? She has the good character and 2 medals at the Olympics, one in winter and one in summer, would be a legendary achievement, not only in Italy.   https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Martina_Sáblíková
    • One Wiebes is worth more than the all Italian team with Balsamo/Fidanza, etc., that much clear. Even if the Netherlands loses its dominance in the men's sprint, Wiebes will win 2-3 gold medals in other events. Just relax, man.
    • I'm most worried about our women's team in the pursuit – we have a reserve squad, but not advancing to the top 8 is a shame. We recently competed with out 1 team and had not good in 1 round. It doesn't look good. And the Netherlands are already taking Wiebes to the track team and will soon dominate the Madison/Omnium as well. Balsamo and Paternoster haven't made any progress for years and the our women's team at the Olympics has little chance to win a medal. Italy might even win World Championship/European Championship gold in the years after the Olympics, etc., but when the real fight comes, the UK or the USA will always beat us
    • Track cycling is one of the few sports where there is no host nation quota, so  will need to work hard to achieve our quotas.  It's not our best sport, but was happy to see Top 10 results in the Elimination Race for Grant Koontz and Emma Jimenez Palos (who is just 18!).
    • Yes, I saw the same thing you did @clemsonbeav (on both accounts) but I agree it looks pretty stock.
    • Also, I just logged back into my account, where it sent me to update my profile, and when I saved that, I got a screen that included a check mark next to 'Registered for the Draw'.  Not sure I totally trust it, but it does at least say so.  (There's nothing specifically referencing Drop 2 or anything...might just be a stock screen.). I'm curious what it would look like if you looked at it @esube.  https://tickets.la28.org/
