Right, the omnium has been absolutely beheaded in the past few years and is now just another endurance party which is the complete opposite of what the word 'omnium' suggests, but alright. Going to watch anyway, of course

Omnium can easily suggest "everything of distance", just as long as you can let go the previous ridiculous format.

 

London 2012 format of omnium was on par with some Paris 1900 events.

Rio 2016 format was quite alright though. It is presented as a sort of allround event, and it is the complete opposite of that. We don't need four peloton events, there should be some individual stuff and some sprint stuff as well.

 

Individual sprint event (like the 1km time trial)

Individual endurance event (like the IP)

Peloton sprint event (keirin is too dangerous, so let's say elimination race)

Peloton endurance event (points race)

 

That already would be better than:

 

1. Peloton endurance event

2. Peloton endurance event with a few sort-of sprints

3. Peloton endurance event with more sort-of sprints

4. Peloton endurance event

If that's the sound of blown tyres, count me out of ever going to a track cycling event
