And technically this isn't a reallocation. The Russians were dq'd...

The British Olympic Association makes all the governing bodies sign an agreement that they will name their selections by the agreed date and will not accept any reallocation unless there are any exceptional circumstances. They have this notion that is someone wasn't good enough to get a quota in the first place then they wont get a reallocation. Takes no account of the fact for instance in Alpine Skiing being good in one event wasn't catered for and that there were more nations getting quota, reducing the numbers left. They probably hadn't set a standard for speed skating as they may not even have thought we would have a team! We should get one place with Columbia in the women's mass start. If we decline then that will be saying your not good enough go take some drugs.. It will do nothing to promote the sport or the legacy promised at 2012. Its also not all about medals...

Great point! Everything I have seen so far suggests that our delgation is unfortunately likely to stay at 59. There is one consistent policy which is 2xtop 67% finishes at a World Cup event but Gemma Cooper only got that once in a mass start at the Calgary WC, so she technically hasn't met the conditions set out by the BOA for all sports. It was because of this that we rejected our second Women's Ski Cross quota. Whilst it is unfortunate we won't have any speed skaters (long track) in PyeongChang, our team is developing and the results in the Junior World Cup and near qualification this time are positive steps towards developing the sport in GB.
