Thanks, what a surprising result. Never heard of Brown before and tought that Desthieux already retired. How old is that guy?

Desthieux turned 29 yo in December. He's not that old. Actually the fact Jacquelin was the defending pursuit champion enabled France to field 5 men in the sprint. Polish ES argued if they could only field four then Desthieux would have been the odd man out.

Guigonnat most likely or Claude on his current form.

Guigonnat would not have raced.

@OlympicsFanthe Problem ist, that in Germany there are also not good XC Skier in the Mans Field and in the Women‘s only one.

No, that is not the case. Germany has at least half a dozen guys who could easily be among the best skiers in biathlon. I think you are massively underestimating how weak the top guys in biathlon are compared to the top guys in cross-country. Also Germany has at least 2 very promising athletes in Janosch Brugger and Friedrich Moch. Actually Germany almost always has very talented athletes in cross-country. Denise Herrmann was the fastest skier after she switched to biathlon and she wasn’t exactly a world-beater in cross-country (sprint excluded). I have no doubt that Henning or Carl would easily be among the fastest athletes in biathlon.

Attachment is the great fabricator of illusions; reality can be obtained only by someone who is detached.

Sorry, but where had Germany talented XC skiers on the men’s site in the last few years? Yes, some won Medals at U23 Championships but they haven‘t take the step into the world class. And so it is in Biathlon. After 2014 there came no more talented athlete in Biathlon. The last ones were at this time Dahlmeier, Preuß, Hinz and Doll.

I think Germany this year really undervalued Nawrath and didn't give him a World Cup chance after a pretty stellar season last year.

Well, he should had the opportunity to qualifier over the European Championships, but he had a problem with his rifle in the sprint and finished only in 38th sprint, so Kuehn got the ticket.

:GER had some good results in this year’s Norwegianless Tour de Ski, but there is no way that can translate to biathlon.

I think it could have something to do with the fact that athletes are stuck in IBU cup until they're 24-26ish.

Most recent talented German biathletes got their chances to run in the World Cup team when they were a lot younger - Dahlmeier, Preuss.

Norway is one of the hardest teams to get into, but even their athletes come into the World Cup a bit more younger and fresh.

    • Despite total domination by the Norwegian men (and yes, it's exhausting and boring), the accomplishments this weekend of Emil Iversen and Einar Hedegart are worth highlighting, despite them being Norwegian.    Iversen was dropped by the Norwegian national team after the opener in Beitostølen 2 weeks ago and was not taken to Ruka. Instead, he won both the 10k and 20k Interval Classic starts in Gålå in the Norwegian Cup last week, which granted him a spot on the start line in Trondheim. He took full advantage of that opportunity and finished on the podium in the skiathlon, and finished just off the podium in today's 10k Interval Freestyle. This definitely puts his name in serious contention for a spot on the Olympic team, which looked incredibly doubtful just a few days ago.    Einar Hedegart, the 24-year-old biathlete who decided to challenge the stereotype that biathletes are inferior skiers to their cross-country counterparts, just won the 10k Interval Start against all of Norway's best in a de facto Olympic trial.    Yes, it's exhausting seeing nothing but Norwegian flags on the men's side, but there can be excitement just beneath the surface at times.
