heywoodu 13,562 Posted July 18, 2020 #682 Share Posted July 18, 2020 Impressive second win for Theo Pourchaire in the F3 today. Half a race and he annihilated the field. Simon Pagenaud won the first IndyCar race in Iowa during the night. He was helped by a caution that happened because of Colton Herta torpedoeing the back of Rinus van Kalmthout and then flying off into the fences - luckily not at very high speeds since it happened at an aborted restart. Apparently Herta wasn't told (at least not in time) the restart had been aborted, which was done late, and he had basically nowhere to go from then on. Too bad for the youngsters, right after they had perfect luck with a caution due to Will Power's wheel running off - most people had pitted under green, they could do it under yellow. Monzanator 3,600 Posted July 18, 2020 #683 Share Posted July 18, 2020 Race started at 3:15 am CET. I was wondering if Veekay's shunt made the news in Netherlands even though it was Herta who launched off flying @heywoodu

The race isn't that long, so no problem to set an alarm again to watch live (especially considering during the day there's just no time to watch it ). I suppose Dutch TV contacts him for inside IndyCar news?

As far as I know that's where he lives, yes, and I know he has been sort of a mentor for Van Kalmthout in his entire Road to Indy the past few years. They don't have that much inside IndyCar news: Dutch TV - well, the one channel that shows it - shows the races and since this season sometimes qualifying, and outside of that any news is about Van Kalmthout only. It's not like a quote of Pagenaud or Dixon or whatever is interesting for Dutch media If you'd like to help our fellow Totallympics member Bruna Moura get to the 2026 Winter Olympics, after her car crash on the way to the 2022 Olympics, every tiny bit of help would be greatly appreciated! Monzanator 3,600 Posted July 18, 2020 #688 Share Posted July 18, 2020 Robert Shwartzman & Nikita Mazepin take 1-2 in the Hungary F2 Feature Race after some crazy tyre wear strategy that favored those who started towards the back of the field. Shwartzman won by 15,5 secs. despite starting 11th and that's unheard of on a track like Hungaroring. Dare I say the Russians didn't have so much success in Hungary since 1956 It's Shwartzman's second win of the season and he seems like the most successful driver wearing a Ferrari badge this season so far! Mostly it's a matter of most drivers (well, their teams) severely underestimating the difference between a heavy and light car on the softs, which was apparently a whole lot bigger than it normally is. Shwartzman could have come in way earlier (and lost out), whereas Ticktum or Schumacher could have come in way later (and get the rewards). Wrong guess for them Shwartzman was 4 seconds behind Schumacher shortly after his stop (and after easily overtaking Ilott and Ghiotto)....not even two laps later he was 6-7 seconds ahead If you'd like to help our fellow Totallympics member Bruna Moura get to the 2026 Winter Olympics, after her car crash on the way to the 2022 Olympics, every tiny bit of help would be greatly appreciated! heywoodu 13,562 Posted July 19, 2020 #690 Share Posted July 19, 2020 Bent Viscaal dominated the wet F3 race, nobody even got close. He finished well out of the points though, because first he got a 5 second penalty due to Igor Fraga spinning while Viscaal happened to be close to him (it was quite clearly Fraga's fault), then he got a 5 second penalty for being driven off the track. Even so, he would still finish 3rd (and would've won with one penalty, he was way better)....until Nannini crashed at the end, the safety car came out and so 10 seconds suddenly became most of the field.
