Freestyle Skiing at the Winter Olympic Games 2018

Recommended Posts

:GER declines one in women's moguls (:CHN +1), two in women's ski cross (:SUI:CHI +1) and one in men's ski cross (:ITA +1).

Men's ski cross literally has only one more athlete on the reallocation list. :p Looks more than likely that full quota won't be used...

@Dragon @uk12points Japan declined 3 places in women's moguls, one of which is going to Great Britain. Will they accept it?

The official policy is that no tripartite or reallocated quota will be accepted, so I doubt it!

Men's halfpipe is getting pretty close as well.

I see. Shame, I don't know much about her, but Makayla Gerken-Schoefield sounds pretty neat. :d

There’s a whole bunch of them on the GB moguls team!

Makayla Gerken-Schofield

Leonie Gerken-Schofield

Thomas Gerken-Schofield

They are all still teenagers so with the new moguls performance programme that has been recently set up they should all be potential Olympians in Beijing.

Interesting news for Denmark that Canada won't use all their quotas. The question is whether our NOC is interested in a reallocated quota.

Looks like they accepted it! :)

So what happens to the extra quotas in ski cross and men's half-pipe? Will they go to other events?

No. They are simply gone.

The per country limit really should be 40 (rather than 30), it would have prevented or at least mitigated this situation where there are unused quotas both in Sochi and here.

    • Olivia Weaver was up 9-4 in the 5th game.  Hania El Hammamy  then scored 5 straight points to tie it up.  Then, took the lead with a sixth straight point, then won with a 7th straight point, taking the Sprott Tournament of Champions in New York.  Still, congrats to Weaver for bringing home second place!  (And congrats to El Hammamy...what a streak at the end!)
    • One thing working in our favor with Luge is that Women's Doubles is just one sled per NOC, so I like our chances there.  We'll be 3rd or 4th in the Relay (one of my favorite events)...if everyone slides cleanly, we'll probably be 4th, behind , , and ...but anything can happen in the relay.  (I think in my official predictions I had us 3rd.  Wishful thinking, I suppose.)
    • They can also just count DNSs to handle this specific situation.
    • I suspect IBSF will make the point system equal in the future regardless on the number of competitors.   My fear is that they will make the awarded points lower, like only 90 points to the winner to balance it out.
    • Olivia Asselin (freestyle skiing)   She was at the X Games competing this week. Another medal hope out the drain, she was in the form of her life
    • You'd have to ask her simpatic boyfriend from the USA about that, who is often seen at competitions with her participation
