So, Medal.

The most surprising medal in sport hitory of Slovakia, I assume. No one absolutely no one expected this, I believe even not Rory himself, especially after yesterdays disaster.

But an absolutely amazing OR of 61 in a single day catapulted him to an absolutely unbelievable silver medal.

Very well done and congrats Rory.

Medal number 31 for :SVK in SOG history since the independence, 14th silver

(10 - 14 - 7)

Obviously first ever Golf medal. Golf is now the 8th sport in which the country medalled at the summer Olympics since our first appearance in 1996.

Also mentionworthy this was the Slovak debut in this sport and it ended by a medal.

Due to all other things I didn't follow golf at all. After @hckošiceposted Sabbatini had a horrible round two days ago I'm shocked to learn he won a medal :p SO guess there is life outside slalom canoeing in Slovakia? :yes

Finally got around to watching the bronze medal play-off. That was a lot of fun. Love the elimination format. :d

Too bad they didn't ask if they can share 7 bronze medals. :p

Jokes aside :p

Had there been no tiebreaker, or had the competitors chose to keep the tie, this would have been the most people to ever tie for an Olympic medal. From what I read, the previous record for a tie for a single medal was 4 athletes at one of the early Olympics.

Ahem, 1984 OG weren't exactly "early" :p And it's no surprise it happened in gymnastics.

Men's vault - 1 gold, 4 silvers (including Li Ning who lit the 2008 Olympic cauldron).

Gymnastics also provided a couple of examples where a gold medal was shared by more than two people. In one case all three were from the same country to add to the lunacy!

    • sure! in every Italian bedroom you normally have every kind of table, chairs, furniture, tv screen  to me, this really look an unfinished room, you normally don't see such a sad place even when you buy a new house
    • Canoe Sprint There is a now a cap of 5 athletes per gender in the kayak events (down from 6 in 2024). The World Championships has been replaced by the Olympic Qualification Rankings.   K2 lost 2 boat quotas while K4 has gained 1 boat quota. Quota distribution is quite complicated as it usually is for canoe sprint. They also force nations to compete in a minimum number of events based on the number of athletes qualified; 2 and 3 athletes per boat class must compete in 2 events, 4 must compete in all 3 events and 5 must compete in all 3 events and have two entries in the K1 event.
    • Wrestling will have a completely new format, I do not like the changes. ranking isn't really a good idea in this sport, this will force wrestlers to compete in so many events to collect points. which is not good for their health. specially with the current UWW ranking points distribution system which is plain stupid   they are also gifting 18 quotas to very weak countries by that last qualification event. but I understand their point of view. can't wait to see lots of Russian wrestlers compete for weak countries for that 1 available quota.
    • Canoe Slalom Quotas from men's/women's K1 have been moved to men's/women's KX1. K1 will now have 14 quotas while KX1 will have 10 quotas. C1 remains at 17 quotas. Athletes may participate in other events up to a maximum of 2 athletes per NOC.   The World Championship qualifier has been dropped in favour of the Olympic Qualification Rankings (7 K1, 10 C1, 3 KX1), afterwards you have the Continental Qualifiers (1 per boat) and then a new Global Qualifier (2 per boat).   There were a few changes regarding ways to ensure an athlete can only obtain 1 quota. The biggest being at each stage the boat priority is K1 > KX1 > C1 for the rankings and KX1 > K1 > C1 for the continental/global qualifiers. This basically means if the same athlete qualifiers in multiple boats then the quota will be given to the kayak over canoe.
    • I'll post significant changes periodically. I'll start with the recently added/updated documents.   Archery The addition of mixed compound (12M & 12W) forced a reduction on the recurve side. The mixed compound quotas are distributed as follows   Host - 1 World Championships - 3 Continental Games - 5 World Ranking List - 2 Final Qualifier - 1   To compensate the team events will now only have 8 nations. 2 quotas were removed from the World Ranking List and 2 were removed from the Final Qualifier.   Individual recurve and mixed recurve distribution is the same
