Equestrian at the Summer Olympic Games 2020

Recommended Posts

First time a non-European nation finished above bronze.

USA earned a couple of bronze medals previously, while Canada also has one from 1988.

OBS commentator (who also works for FEI tv) just loves talking over the music in freestyles.

And he does it up to the point where it becomes insufferable, mostly since his comments add absolutely nothing of value.

So grateful that there is an "ambient sound" option on the ESP player. :yes

The Danish expert commentator started talking a lot but now he mainly speaks when it's really good or really bad.

Really helpful for me as I really don't understand much :p

I approve that kind of commentary. :d

But this OBS guy talks about some random previous achievements (or even more random trivia) in the middle of the performance.

How very interesting that Nanna used the same music and the same floorplan Daniel Bachmann Andersen used riding this horse. :d

Only Daniel tended to take greater risks in his lines. :p At least that time when he scored over 86%.

:POR Torres did an amazing test. Fantastic highlights and great music. Chapeau! :hatoff: Of course he is currently stuck in a certain judging drawer so he scored accordingly.

Meanwhile Carl Mehster got overscored. Peters should have definitely stayed ahead, if not Merrald.

    • How wonderful!   I met the national rowing (and beach rowing) coach of EST/LTU/LAT on the way to ice hockey one day, who's Canadian by the way. I also flew home on the same flight as JC Schoonmaker's mom and friends, so we chatted for a bit.
    • Yea I only used transit besides this Uber / bus to the airport and back. All the venues were at the end of the line, so it allowed you to speak with other fans/volunteers etc. I even met Corrine Stoddard's mom after the first session of short track on the way back, and told her to remember our conversation if she won a medal later in the Olympics. We know how that ended up...
    • I used public transit the entire time I was in Milan.   My first day was a doozy, because I had to two flights to reach Malpensa, and then the train into town was delayed, and then I got confused a station and boarded a tram instead of the metro, proceeded to travel in the wrong direction, got off, walked back to the station, found the metro, got off a station early, walked around a kilometer to my hotel, and checked in.   My colleagues mostly took cabs upon arrival, but I deduced to take the frugal approach. That said, I was a true public transit professional by the time I left Milan.   I actually enjoyed my rides to and from venues, because I'd just chat up fans and volunteers from different countries. It helped me learn more about the city too.
    • It's the olympics, sleep is for the weak!    The first day i got there i was on a 12 hour flight from l.a to rome (flight that left mid day), lay over, another flight to milan, uber to hotel, then right away to speed skating (1500m men), then after uber to hockey venue for women's gold final, then after the celebrations uber to the hotel, i ended up being awake about 36 hours that day, the next morning i thought to go sightseeing in the center of milan, but ended up sleeping until like 2pm..... and had speed skating/short track that night
