dcro 10,210 Posted July 20, 2021 #161 Share Posted July 20, 2021 Further reports on the Tokyo 1964 dressage... 1964 Tokyo Olympics: Grete Kemper, Groom of Reiner Klimke's Dux, Remembers Tokyo 1964 Tokyo Olympics: "Joy, Fair Spark of the Gods" in Far Away Japan Quote It is interesting to note that looking at the descriptions of almost all rides Jandl criticized that the horses were not open enough in their frames during the extensions. If one compares the photos of back then with those of today, it makes one wonder what Jandl would say about many horses of our times! Once again it becomes clear that certain problems are not an invention of our days and that perfection remains the ideal to strive for. #banbestmen

Quite dubious reasoning was given... No injury or whatever. It just seems as though being a reserve was beneath the expectations of 'Piggy' March. The owners of her horse weren't keen on the horse going out to Tokyo without being guaranteed to compete
dcro 10,210 Posted July 21, 2021 #163 Share Posted July 21, 2021 Jamie Kermond tested positive for cocaine and is out. Australian jumping reserve, Rowan Willis, pulled out earlier as he was not very eager to go to Japan as a backup. So we are yet to see if Australia will be able (or even allowed) to keep their team. #banbestmen

The remaining two will just compete in the individual event only I suspect. The team event doesn’t need a specific number of countries.

Jumping horses are yet to be flown, so maybe Australia can still field a replacement. #banbestmen
dcro 10,210 Posted July 21, 2021 #169 Share Posted July 21, 2021 Meanwhile, sadly, Tanya Seymour's Ramoneur suffered laminitis after arriving to Tokyo. They are forced to withdraw. The dressage field is down to 59 names as putting in a replacement is not feasible anymore. #banbestmen

I'm being told Kermond will not be replaced.
