Biathlon IBU World Cup 2017 - 2018

Quick comeback to today´s race marked by the First podium for Slovak biathlon since March 2014. Very well done Anastasiya Kuzmina, This girl definitely know how to prepare herself for the Olympic season. Great race, to finish with 1 loop 22 seconds behind Domracheva with perfect shooting is really encouraging. 6th fastest time today and high quality shooting in disastrous weather conditions. Really great performance.

Congrats Nastya. Very well done ! :cheer:

Pitty for the bad shooting of our Fialková sisters, they were both relatively decently fast today on their skis but had quite a lot of hard luck arriving to the shooting range with the conditions resulting in 3 misses for Paulína 2 in the first shooting and 4 for Ivona, at least both managed to secure the qualification for tomorrow´s pursuit from 50th and last 60th place.

Terézia Poliaková once again disaster. 7 faults and terrible skiing resulting in the last position :smash:  This is really looking worrying, hopefully she will find some magic and do much much better in the relays.

Strolia :LTU after 2 shootings from 50th to 27th ! Impressive !

where is @Werloc ? :d

He didn't do a penalty loop, so +2 minutes incoming.

Edit: and now it seems that he didn't miss at all? I'm confused.

It seems that everything is alright with Vytautas Strolia and his shooting at the moment is 0+0+1+????? This is an amazing chance, but I'm almost certain that the nerves will kick in in the final stand, he's never won points before.

Okay, so this is pretty amazing for our weak country. :d

Vytautas Strolia, a former Lithuanian cross-country skier switched to biathlon a couple of years ago with very mixed results and pretty bad shooting. He has participated in two pursuits before today and his previous best placement was 50th place in the sprint yesterday. 0+0+1+1 he showed maturity and his improvement over the years and in pursuits Lithuanians always go backwards, so this is a very nice thing indeed.

It is also the first time since 2015 Antholz (Kočergina) and 2015 Kontiolahti (Leščinskaitė) that a Lithuanian biathlete that is not Tomas Kaukėnas manages to get into top 40.

    • The only ones complaining about the short track refs are Italians, imo. Not even on this forum, but in general, from what I've been seeing on live chats and other social media sites. That says a lot to be honest. I suspect it's partially due to them not performing to the high standard they're expected to perform at especially at the Olympics. The refs make a lot of mistakes for everyone, there's no bias against or towards anyone    Plus, Italy have won 6 medals already.... the most you've won at a Worlds since 2016.
    • For me they gave Canada the gold in the relay in exchange for a 1000-meter dsq gold for Dandjinou, that's how I see it. It was a battle between Kor and Can on 2 of this case. It's hard to say why that last dsq for Kor was in relay? Of course, Italy win bronze thanks for that, but that's not really important. It would have been better if the referees had just stayed out of the results and left it as it was decided for fight on the ice.

    • the quata for europe or australia is from the primer 12, where the top 20 teams will participate, sadly  is the 21th team so the only slight chance for us in my opinion is if: we get top 2 at the european championship (not including  hopefully if they get the quata), then somehow win the final qualification tournament against i assume  and one of    the chances for us are slim, i think about 4 other team sports  have a better chance in in my opinion(and the most team sports we ever had was one, and it was the last two time after a long time )

    • well, Cuba and Venezuela for sure...   Iran is a different question, but I hope in 2 years all this war shit is done and dusted and at least in the sports world everything is gonna be OK
    • In my opinion the Italian team has been playing above expectations since last year after several years of decline. Last year, we advanced to the first division at the European Championships and now they're playing very close matches against the strong India and Scotland. We a little miss a potential to do more – we are only 18th in the world rankings. Our men's team's performance in this sport is much weaker.
